"You look like a tangent? Is something bothering you? The lawyer's making trouble again?" Nathan asked Kate the night he came back and they had a chance to talk together.
He looked at Nathan, later although it felt like there were still many problems behind them, but felt calmer because they could exchange ideas with each other. There's nothing they can't face if they're together.
"I'm just offended, Dad wants us to go to Italy with Mom this Christmas. After a while I felt like I had forgotten it. Now all of a sudden Dad wants us to see him..."
Nathan thinks Kate's father and Aunt Kate have a not-so-simple background. What is the background of his mother. Is it true as Kate said she left them because there was another man. Maybe the story is not that simple, something happened but Daniel Heatherton aka Andrey Mironov chose not to tell it to protect his daughter.
And after a long time finally the problem can be unraveled.
"Maybe they want to make you happy. There may be another side to their story that you don't know, but whatever it is I think they'll explain it to you well..." Kate sighed.
"I don't know if I thought we were a happy family, even if our lives weren't a rich family, but everything was fine, sometimes they fought a lot, but we were fine. And all of a sudden Mom left, Dad was so devastated, and everything went awry,... I hate him for going for someone else."
"Maybe that's not what happened, I don't know...I think you'll get an explanation."
"Isn't that what happened?" Now Kate's been thinking a lot, and then what's been going on for years.

All were calm, the kidnappers were still in custody and all evidence was examined by the prosecution. And Callaway's lawyers still thought they were in control of the situation, even sent a list of questions to be asked in front of the judge.
A call from his lawyer in the morning before they start the trial.
"Miss Kate, you've memorized the answer I want from my question. I want your answer as described there and it has to be that way." The lawyer reminded him again. He gave it to the prosecution, which had gotten too many bullets to throw at it, and categorized Tyson Callaway as a dangerous traitor for handing over sensitive FBI data to Russia and threatening diplomatic positions overseas US.
"It has. Don't you mention it again, I already know my job." Kate just wanted to shorten the conversation and face this guy in front of a live judge.
"I just want to remind you that your appearance today might have a big impact on Mr. Callaway's willingness to help you move the entire bureau and the police force to find your father. Remember Miss the help of others is indispensable." It was a very long and boring speech for Kate. But fine he'll serve it.
"Well, I want that too. You don't have to threaten me anymore." This lawyer apparently did not know the details of his rescue operation which also involved the CIA and known to the Director of the CIA. He thinks only the FBI is involved and he only gets Mr. Reed's help as his boss.
"I'm just reminding. All right, we'll meet in court if so."
Calling witnesses from today's prosecution. The public prosecutor spoke to Kate in a special room with witnesses who would incriminate Callaway.
"of course. He reminded the scenario of his answer sir."
"Basic criminal, he got along so much with criminals that his mindset was similar to those criminals." Kate laughs.
"No doubt. Your opinion seems right."
"Don't worry, today we'll finish him off before he can talk. Your father will be here any minute, the kidnappers went to police prison two days ago, while his cell phone is held by your father's security guard."
Didn't wait long for his father to come in.
"Dad, are you okay?" Kate hugged her father. Looks like he's doing just fine like enjoying his vacation in suburban NY.
"I'm good, I told you. I eat well, exercise well and vacation in a good place." Kate smiled.
"Sorry to jeopardize your safety." His father laughed now.
"Amatter like that can't harm anything. Be calm..." Kate smiled.
"Dad's like their seniors, why do you even say they're amateurs." This part his son doesn't know. But Kate will know the whole story. He needs to apologize to his daughter. Sometimes he felt guilty about treating her so forcefully. True, his sister should have thought Kate was his daughter, not his son. She made Kate's teenage years difficult.
"Dad is senior."
"Senior in what way?"
"Kidnapping." Daniel Heatherton laughed in his own words and Kate thought he was just joking with all his words.
"Ohhh I believe, all right. Even Dad knew someone was watching Dad right away and called Nathan instead of calling me. It seems Dad trusts him more than your own daughter." Now his father grimaces, however he knows better who Nathan and his unit are.
"Katya darling, I know you're at work, why should I worry you if things can be taken care of. Your boyfriend is reliable. But that means I'm not proud of you. Look at you, the youngest FBI unit chief who's ever felt kidnapped by the KGB." His father laughed again, promising to behave better now. And one more that maybe he can make his family whole again later...
Maybe if Kate forgave him keeping so many secrets for years and making him unhappy.
"Daddy for many reasons. Let's enjoy the trial today... I'd like to see Callaway feel ashamed, as shy as ever today. They think everything can be judged by their money."
"I heard she was your date?"
"Where did you hear that?"
"Well, Nathan told me that." Kate is really surprised now. Nampakmya his father and Nathan is really compact.
"He told you? You guys are really familiar apparently. What else did he tell you?"
"You've always thought of me as a boy, now do you consider him part of your family?"
"Katya dear, won't she be a family later too. He loves you just as much as Dad does..." His father seemed happy now and embraced his daughter. After all these years, his father seemed warmer. Kate asks what because Dad is going to meet Mom eventually, he seems happier.
"Dad are you happy?"
"you mean? Why are you asking like that..."
"Is it because you want to see Mom?" Now Daniel seemed to be sighing. This thing can't be talked about here. It took a lot of time to explain it to her daughter.
"We'll talk about that later okay. All you need to know is I'm happy to see you find yourself now, you have a good job, a future husband who loves you. Dad is not a perfect old man, there are too many mistakes you make as a parent... I hope you forgive Dad."
