Gwen flinching. He lifted his head grimly, looking at Kayden's hard and gloomy face, along with the tears that began to sting behind his eyelids. The woman covered him with both hands, and his body trembled with a feeble attack of self-pity.
Kayden who could not bear to see it, immediately he hugged it so that Gwen herself could feel a heavy sigh from the man, as Gwen struggled to hold back the rising tears. He could not avoid it, much less resisting Kayden's embrace as his heart suddenly warmed, though the sadness had not disappeared completely.
“I have nothing more ...” said Gwen lirih. “No more ...”
“But you will soon have it again,” muttered Kayden reassuringly, and suddenly he tightened his embrace. “Come, marry me!” Kayden urged him raucously. “Right now, only you, me and Rainer, know the real reason why Rainer left you on your wedding day.”
“How about the guests who will ask-ask, why should I marry you, instead of Rainer?” ask Gwen grimly.
“We can tell them that I have stopped your marriage with Rainer, because I love you so much and you have fallen in love with me until Rainer finds out about it.” Kayden paused his sentence to sigh tiredly. “I'm sure Rainer won't deny it. He'll just be relieved that we've found a way to make him look less guilty" he said, trying to convince Gwen. The man then hugged Gwen for a moment tighter to encourage her, until a few seconds later she let go of his embrace. “OK?” tanyakanya.
As if hypnotized, Gwen nodded. He knew he shouldn't let this happen. However, somehow the woman did not find the strength to fight back again the volunteering offer from Kayden.
According to Gwen, Kayden was right about one thing. He was the only person Gwen felt could understand her torment because of Kayden who triggered it in the first place.
“Let me speak to your uncle and aunt,” Kayden suggested as he led Gwen to the door.
And even Gwen herself, she could only nod in response. The woman had to trust Kayden as a sane person. It was the only way that he could survive and also save the good name of his uncle and aunt.
The two of them went to see Gwen's uncle and aunt waiting for them in the sitting room for the bride's immediate family.
Aunt Meli stood up as Kayden and Gwen walked in. The middle-aged woman was still shaken to the point of needing the help of her husband. Suddenly they looked old and fragile, unable to cope with the horror and emotion caused in this incident.
For ten years, these two parents have loved and cared for Gwen, taking on the responsibility of taking care of Raul and Tasya Decker's son, after the girl was orphaned because both her biological parents had a car accident.
Although they were already in their forties back then, both of them were very kind and affectionate towards Gwen. The two parents gave Gwen everything they could, postponed the pleasures of life for her sake and happily did.
Seeing Gwen get married was their commitment to her. And while Gwen was busy planning her wedding day at the time, the two men who were no longer young and extraordinary were just as excited about planning a vacation at their home in China, uncle Gwen's hometown.
With a wander, Gwen stepped her foot toward her aunt. She saw her aunt's face red and her eyes swollen from crying. It was already not looking like the cheerful, happy, though overzealous woman Gwen saw this morning.
Until immediately made Gwen realize, that what Kayden said was true. He must not be selfish and cannot take that happy thing away from them.
“Gwen ..” The hoarse and trembling voice of Aunt Meli made new tears drip in the middle-aged woman's eyes as she rushed to hug her beloved niece.
“I'm fine, Auntie." Gwen reassured her dear Aunt. He closed his eyes because he could not bear all this. Unable to endure their own pain and grief. “I'm sorry Aunty ..” then he opened his eyes and looked at his uncle. “I'm so sorry, Uncle,” he said, couldn't help but say it.
Kayden, who understood that Gwen could not speak her decision to her uncle and aunt, walked to Gwen's side. "Uncle and Aunt Huang.” Kayden looked at Uncle Joe seriously. “We have decided, that I will marry Gwen right now.”
Uncle Joe tried to calm down after hearing Kayden's confession. For a moment, he stared intently at Kayden's black bead before turning to look at his nephew's face, then asked in a soft voice. “Gwen, are you willing to marry this man, son?”
It took a split second for Gwen to nod her head in response while still hugging her aunt.
“Oh, my poor son ..." His aunt sobbed with the rest of her energy and increasingly tightened her embrace.
Uncle Joe immediately let out a long sigh. "Alright, if that's your decision, son.” The middle-aged man then turned to stare at Kayden. “I hope your sister is embarrassed for what she did today against my nephew,” said Uncle Joe firmly.
“With all due respect, Uncle Huang,” reply Kayden politely, “I'm sorry,” he added briefly.
“Uncle, Aunt ..” Gwen pulled her body first to release a warm hug from her aunt. "Don't worry about me.” The woman tried to convince her uncle and aunt while forcing her smile. “I'm fine.”
“Gwen!” exclaiming Lucia who just came to the room and walked towards Gwen, after a few minutes ago she confirmed the atmosphere outside, and then she made sure, that the guests had arrived a lot and some other guests asked him about the bride who never showed up. “I'm sorry, but I have to say it. Guests have arrived a lot and they are asking you. There's no time, Gwen."
"Lusia .." Gwen hugged her best friend. They have been good friends since they first met in high school, until the college and work even one office they are both still together. “Thank you for being the best friend for me all this time.”
“Gwen, you gotta strengthen your heart, huh? I'm always there for you." Lusia rubbed his best friend's back as a form of support. He knew that his best friend was very fragile. A few seconds later, Lucia let go of her embrace first, then held onto Gwen's shoulder and forced her to look straight into her eyes. “Have you made up your mind?”
Gwen nodded, then she replied, “Already. I've made my decision. I will marry ...” The woman momentarily hangs up her sentence, before she resumes it, “Mr. Kayden!”
Lucia who was listening to him was jolted and frowned her forehead deeply. "Are you sure?”
“Ya, I'm sure.” Gwen replied firmly without the slightest hesitation.
Lucia momentarily let out a tired breath. “OK, if that is your decision. As your best friend, I want you to be happy, Gwen.” Lusia's eyes turned sharply to his boss. “After all, he had to face his obligations due to the chaos his sister,” caused, he continued, directly criticizing Kayden.
“As the oldest child in my family, I know what I should do, Miss Lucia.” Kayden replied with a flat and cold face, and did not react to the direct attack from Lucia earlier. "I'll take full responsibility for life, Gwen.”
“Really?” Lucia asked with a look of disbelief. "You better do it or you'll come face to face with me. It doesn't matter if you fire me, because I can't tolerate this terrible event happening to Gwen.”
“Lussia ..” Gwen blurted out her best friend's name in awe. His voice seemed to be stuck in the throat because his best friend was always there when Gwen was very fragile like now.
“Actually,” said Kayden calmly, "my sister refused to marry Gwen, because she knew that I loved Gwen very much and Gwen had fallen in love with my captain.”
