Meet With Him

“I'm ready,” said Gwen stiffly, standing at the living room door and seeing Kayden pocketing her phone.

The action made Gwen frown, wondering who she had been talking to. But clearly from Kayden's grim expression, the man wouldn't tell her as he circulated his gaze around the room, making sure everything was safe to leave behind.

Then Kayden approached him. One hand hugged Gwen's waist so much that the woman was shocked. While Kayden's other hand was putting out the lights.

“Other times we come here,” said Kayden meaningfully. “certainly just to welcome your uncle and aunt home.”

“I still hate you,” whispered Gwen as Kayden closed the front door behind them.

“I know,” Kayden smiled. “Sucks, right? Hating someone who makes you hooked?”

Gwen rolled her eyes lazily. She was very reluctant to deny it, because she knew that she would lose her husband's dispute.

The trip to Kayden's house was traversed in a gloomy silence and no one tried to break it. Gwen wasn't sure why, but Kayden was very tense when driving her car. The tension grew as they almost reached Kim's mansion. As a result, Gwen herself felt tense, as if she had to protect herself from the invisible horrors she was forced to face.

If it was about instinct, Gwen had to admit her instincts worked very well today, her inner self as Kayden's car pulled up next to another car parked in the front yard of the house.

“There are others here,” Gwen said as she frowned. “But who?”

Kayden pursed his lips as he felt no need to answer. His handsome face looked tense as he got out of the car and circled around it to help Gwen get down. While continuing to clutch Gwen's arm, she opened the front door and guided his wife in, then down the beautiful corridor to the sitting room door where she paused for a moment as if to calm down.

Then, Kayden pushed the door open and grimly let Gwen in first.

By the time Gwen stepped her feet to get inside, her eyes were immediately fixed on the man standing waiting inside the room. A man who was very familiar and had put his name in his heart. And that man is Rainer. Gwen frowned as she realized why Kayden had stopped for a moment.

Rainer Kim— step-brother Kayden Kim looks stiff and uncomfortable. His facial expression was extremely wary as he directed his eyes at Kayden before looking back at Gwen.

Rainer did not speak. Nobody is talking. And behind him, Gwen could feel Kayden's tension throbbing all over her body as the man stood there in a sudden, gripping silence and observed them.

“Well, well, well,” said Gwen who finally reacted. “The two Kim brothers are here. Real nice. Had Valerie shown up, we could have exchanged brides. Very interesting, isn't it?”

Rainer scalloped. “Don't, Gwen,” she said uncomfortable.

However, Kayden was blocking it. “You stay here,” firmly, holding Gwen's shoulder to stay. “You said you don't want to live a lie. So, let's see if you can live a quieter life with the truth.”

“Truth?” asked Gwen while frowning. “You really think I'll believe anything Rainer says?” bitterly added.

“You will trust him if he appreciates his position in this family,” Kayden said grimly. And it was addressed to Rainer, not Gwen. “He knows why he should be here. He also knows what the stakes are.” Kayden's eyes that became as black as stone by determination, nailed Gwen's accusatory gaze. “You stay here,” repeat. “You listen, then he goes, and we talk.”

With that arrogant statement Kayden took his hand off Gwen's shoulder, then turned around, and walked outside the room confidently closing the door behind her.

Now, there is a new silence throbbing by the reluctance between Gwen and Rainer.

“It feels like we need to talk,” Rainer said flatly, deciding to break the silence that struck those few minutes.

Actually, Rainer was trying to lighten the mood. But Gwen had no interest in listening to him, and it was revealed through a cold expression as Gwen turned to face the man.

“No!” answer Gwen ketus. “There is nothing more I want to tell you,” he continued coldly.

“I don't think so.” Rainer grinned wryly. “But my sister forced—or at least,” she added, “dia insisted there are many explanations I have to give you.”

“Stay I don't want to hear it,” said Gwen stiffly. “In fact, I will make it easy for you, Rai. Because I need to tell you that I'm grateful you left me first.”

“Cause you got Kayden instead?”

Gwen's chin lifted. “I admire him," he said honestly. “Just a few weeks with her, and I've forgotten what your face looks like.”

Rainer grimaced hearing that. “That's nothing new,” he said, sighing that obliterates a bit of tension. “Kayden has beaten me all my life. So, if you stop falling for me and fall for her instead, that's not surprising at all, Gwen. In fact,” added grimly, “I can already expect it.”

“What do you mean?” Gwen frowned, not understanding the direction of the man's conversation.

“The point is that my arrogant half-brother has the nature of what it is.” While slightly shrugging elegantly, Rainer turned around and walked to the window. It looked dark outside, so dark that he should not be able to see any further than the porch. However, Rainer managed to nail his gaze to something out there.

“You know, Gwen? All my life I've been competing with Kayden for something,” Rainer said heavily. “When I was young, I competed to get our father's sympathy to be the same son as Kayden,” he said cynically. “but unfortunately I couldn't reach him. Back then everyone including me knew that I would not be as good as Kayden in our father's eyes.” He said it flatly. “Kayden Kim, the eldest son of the Kim family is tall, tough, and very intelligent. Similarly at school,” he added while putting his hands in his pants pocket, while Gwen silently moved to a nearby chair and dropped down there. He was interested in hearing what Rainer said, although reluctant.

“I used to go to the same school as Kayden. He left a kind of legacy that was almost impossible to defeat even though I had tried my best. He has always excelled in all areas,” Rainer admitted in a condescending tone. “At least I've tried to compete with that damn legend. Ironically I always fail until we grow up.” He laughed out loud. “So is it at work. Kayden Kim of the heavyweight class competes with Rainer Kim of the lightweight class. I'm too stupid and weak, Gwen."
