Emily, The Mute Girl

Emily, The Mute Girl
The Story of the Farmer 2

Jeremy and Emily listen to the farmer's story while being silent. The farmer continued his story. When the farmer was 18, he decided to marry his stepmother.

Although her stepmother always refused because she felt that their relationship was wrong, the farmer decided to marry her.

However, it did wreak havoc for his stepmother. Because everyone thought of her as a cheap woman who did not know herself because not only married the village chief but also seduced her son.

The farmer tried to explain to everyone that his stepmother rejected him, but they did not want to listen to him and continued to scorn his stepmother and even treated him unfairly.

If his stepmother goes out of the house, he is always on the maki-maki even sometimes he is pelted with water and rotten eggs and vegetables. The rumors spread quickly. They say that the woman must have used her body to seduce the son of the village chief and commit adultery. Seeing the woman he loved was always at a reproach who the day was, the old farmer decided to leave the village. They choose to build a house in the forest, living away from people who do not like them. The beginning of their lives was not good. They often quarrel because the stepmother often feels guilty and always tells her to return to her village. The woman forced him to leave himself alone in the forest.

The farmer would not. In the end the woman gave up and stopped forcing her back.

"So grandpa decided to let go of grandpa's future and live here with grandpa's stepmother?" ask Jeremy who feels that the story doesn't make sense. How could he allow his bright future as a village chief and choose to live with an old woman? So it turns out that what he had been calling his wife was his stepmother.

The farmer smiled and nodded.

"I chose that path the proof is that I'm here" he replied.

Jeremy is not sure. He sighed. "Then, did grandfather never think of going back? Why did Grandfather choose to survive in this place? However, the forest is not a good place to live" Jeremy said.

The farmer laughed softly and then shook his head. He patted Jeremy on the shoulder.

"You're so young, son. For me wherever I live, as long as I can be with the people I love, that is enough. After all, here we have everything we need. Houses to live in, vegetables and livestock to eat. We are not lacking anything. Isn't that called happiness?"

Finished saying, the farmer stared for a moment at Emily who had been silent since. Then walk in leaving them.

"What do you think?" jeremy asked, looking at Emily.

The old farmer's love story sounds romantic. She is willing to leave her bright future to live with the woman she loves and also protect her from those who hate her.

'J**if his stepmother didn't love him, the farmer just locked him in his love prison. But she said her stepmother loved her too. So I guess what that farmer did was something amazing. That's what's called true love.' Emily's gesture.

Seeing his answer, Jeremy fell silent. He didn't say anything else. But according to him, the old farmer was both crazy and stupid. For Jeremy, love is not important at all. Letting go of the future in order to love a woman is futility for her.

*****

It's been four days, Emily and Jeremy have been in this place, and there's been no sign of anyone looking for them getting there.

Jeremy's legs are starting to look better. The wound has started to dry so there is no need for bandages anymore. His legs have also been reduced. It turned out that he was just sprained, not until a broken bone.

But there's one thing that always bothered Emily's mind. It was about the farmer's wife who had not appeared since they had arrived. Every time Emily asked to meet, the farmer said his wife needed a break. That'sallthatis.

Emily looked at Jeremy.

'Ak**u just wanted to see his condition and say thank you.' her cue.

"just free. I think his wife is dead." said Jeremy who suddenly made Emily widen her eyes.

'What did you say?'

Jeremy looked at Emily's surprised face.

"If his wife were still alive, his room would definitely not be that quiet. I had never heard another voice from inside the room other than the farmer's voice talking to himself...."

This time it was Jeremy who widened his eyes when he said that. What he said was similar to him. Emily was mute, every time they talked, all that Jeremy could hear was. Is the farmer's wife the same as Emily?

Emily was still shocked by Jeremy's thoughts. He thought of something for a moment and waved his hand.

'So shouldn't we check it?'

Jeremy shakes.

"I don't think we should interfere in their business. You have to remember who helped us until now. So you better not make his feelings disturbed. I'm sure the farmer's grandfather knew what he was doing."

Emily bit her lip and looked down. He realized what Jeremy said was true. They should not interfere with the household affairs of others. But he still thought that this was all not true but there was nothing he could do.

Silent. No one spoke after that. Jeremy stared at the full moon shining brightly in the sky. Night breeze blows on their bodies.the rustling sound of leaves combined with the sound of crickets and other small animals, typical of the night in the forest.

Jeremy turned his eyes to Emily who was also staring at the moon. The light of the full moon shone on her beautiful face which made her look sparkling. For a moment the sight looked intoxicating and made jeremy stunned. But he soon came to his senses and asked, asking,

"How can you be mute?"

Emily looks at.

"Why don't you talk? I remember clearly when we fell that day. You screamed loudly." he continued asking.

"Tell me, Emily. Are you pretending to be mute in front of me?" accused him.

Emily looked at Jeremy in amazement. He didn't expect Jeremy to ask something like this. Why is it only today that her husband asks why she is mute? Usually he never asked and never found out what his wife was doing.

Was it because he was bored or because there was nothing else they could talk about?
