Emily, The Mute Girl

Emily, The Mute Girl
Sometimes the World is Too Bad

In the middle of the night, as people sleep in their sleep, Jeremy goes to Emily's room to see her, but Emily locks her door from the inside. Jeremy gave up on meeting her, and she turned to her son's room. He still remembered his son was terrified at his words. Once there, he saw that his son had fallen asleep. Jeremy rubbed his son's cheek gently. He hoped Jordan would soon forget his words. Jeremy's touch wakes Jordan from his sleep. The boy opened his eyes and found his father was beside him.

"Dad." he said in a hoarse voice.

"Did you wake you up?" ask Jeremy.

"Mmmm..." Jordan nodded while rubbing his eyes. Then he got up and hugged Jeremy. Seeing his son's reaction, Jeremy knows the boy is no longer afraid of him.

"Before, did you scare you?" tanyakanya. Jordan nodded in his arms. He let go of his embrace and looked at his father.

"Dad, you're not gonna kill me, are you?" tanyanya polo's. Jeremy felt his heart ache hearing the question. He shook fast.

"No, I won't kill you." he said.

"But why did you say you'd kill me if she didn't like me?" ask Jordan again.

"Dad just pretended to scare her a little bit" Jeremy replied.

"But dad scared me too" Jordan said quickly.

"really?" jeremy asked making his son nod. Jeremy carried her and took her back to bed.

"Dad apologized for scaring you. I promise you, I won't do it again" Jeremy said. He rubbed his son's head gently. Jeremy was wondering what his son and Emily were doing when he left.

"Did that woman say something to you?" tanyakanya.

"Yes, Dad. He said I was just joking." said Jordan, nodding. Hearing him made Jeremy smile with satisfaction.

"really? What else did he say?" She knew Emily would not let her son be sad.

"She said she liked me" Jordan said.

"She said, no one can hate my cutest son. Dad, am I funny?" continues asking. Jeremy's heart warms, he pinches Jordan's cheek.

"If he says so, it means it's true" he said.

Jordan was silent, not just the woman, almost everyone said that he was a funny boy. But the First Lady never found it funny.

"But Mother..."

"No need to think about it. Now you have a Mother who will love you well." Jeremy cut off.

Once again Jordan was silent. Every time he talked about his birth mother, his father would turn cold and unhappy. However, his father suddenly brought a woman and told her that she was his mother from today. The attitude of the woman was very warm to him, the woman also smiled and hugged him and comforted him. Something he never got from the First Lady. Is that woman really her real mother? If yes, then it is good because he likes it.

"Dad.." call Jordan.

"Why can't the woman speak properly?" tanyakanya. His tongue still felt stiff to say the word 'Mother'.

"It's not him who can't speak properly, but you're the one who has to learn to talk to him. Tomorrow comes a teacher who teaches you sign language." Jeremy said.

Jordan recalled, the woman always moved her hand when talking to her father and also with an older brother named Ferry who was with the woman. He also wants to be like those who understand what the woman is saying through the movement of her hands. But...

"I'd rather hear his voice" Jordan said as he closed his eyes. Jeremy wails.

"You hear his voice?" With eyes closed, Jordan nodded.

"Last noon as I was going to sleep, he hummed for me" he replied in a voice that began to weaken, a sign he was beginning to enter his dreamland.

Damnit damnit!! Jeremy was immediately envious of his son. She also wants to be sung by Emily.

The news of "The President brought his wife back from the Grave" was a hot topic of discussion across the country. The newspapers print them in large quantities and take a lot of advantage of it. The news came to the attention of many, because after all, Jeremy and Emily were already famous before the man became President. Even now, Jeremy announced he would hold a wedding party once again with Emily and invited many people to celebrate.

People who knew and accepted Emily's kindness in the past, right now don't know what to do. At that time, when hearing the news of Emily's sudden death, they were very sad and her funeral became a sea of humans who wanted to take her to the final resting place.

But now, the person they cried for suddenly returned to be the President's second wife. They feel played with by the lies about his death and begin to wonder what really happened in the past. Aunt Agnes read the paper this morning. He folded the paper and decided to attend Jeremy's party for Emily.

"Emmyl... Actually, what have you done?" mummified Aunt Agnes.

"Mother.." Ferry called Emily who had been daydreaming since then while staring out the window. The wind was very strong today. The leaves are flying out there. Emily turned to look at her foster child and smiled gently.

'What's up?' tanyakanya.

"What do you think?" Ferry dared to ask. He could see, his mother was very unhappy in this place. Emily shakes her head and says it's okay, though she thinks a lot about how to get out of Jeremy's grip. Ferry knew his mother was lying. Her mother always thought she was a child so sometimes she kept all her problems alone. He knew his mother wanted to be free, like a bird in a cage that always looked out and hoped to fly free again in the vast world.

"Let me out, Mother. I can definitely find a way out, so we can get out of here" Ferry said.

Emily was touched to hear his words, but she realized this place was too dangerous. He had no idea what would happen if Ferry disappeared from his sight just a little. For example, what if Clarissa met Ferry when she was out, and vented her anger on the boy? Or what if Jeremy did something to Ferry to suppress him? Emily doesn't want anything bad to happen to Ferry.

'No need. You don't have to do it.' gestured Emily while stroking Ferry's head.

"But, why? Don't you want to get out of here?" tanya Ferry was confused. He did not understand that everything was more complicated than he thought.

'Sometimes, the world is too evil on innocent people. This place is too dangerous for you. I don't want anything bad to happen to you. So, stay here. That problem, I'll think for myself. Emily's still wiping Ferry's head, hoping the boy can understand what he's saying.
