Liu Chang and the Seven Keys finally reached Kota Kinabalu, where the Beigan region was covered in ice snow. Previously Liu Chang had parted ways with the residents of Yuki Village at the entrance of the city because of their different goals.
After arriving inside, Chiriyu and Aqua said they wanted to shop for some thick clothing while looking for lodging for a warm bath, while Salazar said he wanted to go to one of the restaurants to find a special food around.
Liu Chang gave the three of them ten pieces of gold and dozens of pieces of silver each as stock, Liu Chang was worried that their slightly shabby condition would cause trouble when they had no money.
“I'll take a walk while others are busy with their respective activities ..” Liu Chang smiled faintly as he stepped foot into the center of Kota Kinabalu.
The area of Kota Kinabalu is quite large, its size covers almost one-third of the State of Beigan. In addition to its territory, the population also has a fairly good economy according to Liu Chang, seen from the many large and small traders along the streets of the city.
There were a lot of things that Liu Chang was a little interested in, but Liu Chang knew they were already in the Galactic Ring so he would not have to buy them again unless he ran out of stock.
Liu Chang planned to purchase some necessities for Chiriyu who would ascend to the Intermediate Swordsman later on, instead, Liu Chang also hoped that the city would have a branch of the Young Sword Association in order to purchase resources for the increase in Chiriyu's strength and perhaps for the others later.
“Hm, why are there so crowded?” Liu Chang frowned when he saw the excitement and cheers of the residents in the center of Kota Kinabalu.
After seeing more clearly what had happened, Liu Chang could only be shocked at once in astonishment.
In front of the current Liu Chang, there was a human who had pointed ears and had dark green skin that was being hung on top of the execution pole. Liu Chang slightly heard the faint-faced voice saying that the slightly different humans were referred to as Elves!
Liu Chang knew enough of the legends about Elves but seeing them in person was another matter, in addition, usually the Elves do not like to blend in with humans especially until caught like this must indicate something is wrong, he thought.
Liu Chang then asked the people who were crowding beside him, what caused the Elf to be captured and hanged like that.
After having a little chat with a few people, Liu Chang could only be surprised instead of playing around for the reason the Elf would be executed just for stealing a piece of bread a few days ago.
“What irony, such low tolerance! Because of a piece of bread he arrived at execution ..” Liu Chang clenched his hand furiously.
Liu Chang was in a difficult situation, to do something that led to chaos at a time like this required such great courage moreover it seemed that not a single person wanted to save that Elf.
Liu Chang wanted to make a move but his arrival in this city was only a few hours ago, if he were to make trouble then Salazar and the others could have been dragged away, Liu Chang thought.
“It seems like there is no other option, Salazar problem and others later I just think ..” Liu Chang waited for the right time to remove the Elf's grip from the execution stage.
A few seconds later, the executioner is seen to have climbed while carrying the guillotine he had prepared a moment ago.
The head of the Elf was then stored in a decapitation that had been prepared, while the executioner pulled the chain slowly while followed by the cheers of residents who wanted to quickly watch the Elf's head was cut off.
Seen the resigned and weak face of the Elf, as if beckoning anyone to help him from this situation but the cheers of the next townspeople increasingly scared him half to death.
“Come, hurry!! He deserves that!”
“Hahahha, split the head of the Elf into four!”
Liu Chang increasingly heard the useless cheers coming out from the townspeople, meanwhile the guillotine chain had reached up and was ready to be released down on the Elf's head.
Liu Chang breathed slowly before then darting away at the same time as the release of the chain pulled by the executioner to the head of the Elf.
A few seconds later, when the townspeople thought they would see the blood of the Elf and her severed head, they found the opposite and were no less terrifying than they thought.
The head of the executioner was crushed with the position of the body that was still standing upright, even in his hand there was still a chain that he had previously released to behead the Elf.
The situation became silent shortly after that incident, the Elf's body disappeared along with a young man who asked the Elf's identity around the execution stage a moment ago.
The young man was none other than Liu Chang, everyone no one was suspicious in the slightest of his actions that caused all of this.
Quite far away from the execution stage, Liu Chang and the Elf were looking towards the stage which was quite chaotic at the loss of the person to be executed.
In their eyes were seen some people were trying to find the Elf while cleaning the blood that was splattered due to the crushed head of the executioner.
“Master, thank you for helping this despicable creature. If I may know, what is your purpose in helping me?” The elf still could not believe what was happening in front of him just a moment ago, so he was quite polite in asking Liu Chang.
Liu Chang smiled faintly looking at the innocent manner of the Elves in front of him, his body indeed looked smaller than an ordinary human yet Liu Chang was sure his lifespan was definitely not as small as his size.
“No, senior, Don't behave like that. Junior just wants to save people who don't get justice. Then let's go so that senior safety can be more awake.” Liu Chang smiled faintly before gesturing his hand towards the end of the alley that looked desolate from the city streets.
The elf shook his head slowly before starting to tell about his other friends. His goal of coming to this city and stealing food in the form of a loaf of bread was not a playful excuse actually, he had a special purpose.
Liu Chang brought the Elf to a slightly safe area before starting to listen to his story about the other Elves. The elf nodded softly, not against Liu Chang's invitation intending to take him to a safer place.
After being far enough away from the streets of downtown Kota Kinabalu, Liu Chang found an abandoned house because the condition was quite fragile. Liu Chang then entered the house after seeing the Elf slightly cold from having the thin clothes of most people.
“Wear this, Senior. Now that this place is safe enough, I've made protectors so that unwanted people can't enter this house.” Liu Chang handed over some cloth thick enough for the blanket, coincidentally the Galactic Ring had cloths like these.
“Thank you, it looks like you are a swordsman if you follow your words.” said the Elf while picking up the blanket offered by Liu Chang.
Liu Chang smiled faintly and then cleaned the makeshift floor while making some simple stools to sit from the wood beside the house. Liu Chang gave the bench one to the Elf and one to himself.
“Senior, you said earlier will tell something about your friend, what is it about?” Liu Chang asked so after the fire in the fireplace had lit up while heating up the brown teapot with his hands enveloped by black flames.
The elf was a little surprised by Liu Chang's actions but did not go further and refocused on Liu Chang's questions about the story.
“Yes, maybe you can help a young man. I seem to be able to trust you.” the Elf smiled slightly.
