By the time the example was completed, some stomach grunts were heard throughout the field with a very loud one next to Itsuki. Itsuki and the others have not eaten anything since yesterday.
When the teacher heard this, he disbanded the class and asked one of their seniors to bring the recruits to the cafeteria. In the middle, the excited expressions of the fellow recruits and the reddened Isazaka, Itsuki began to ponder at what stage he was with Hakudo and Hoho.
Although there were some bare-handed combat techniques in the Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu manual, it was ultimately a sword style, even though he trained it. In the end, he might be in the untrained category.
Itsuki felt quite confident about Hoho. This is because Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu is a sword style that focuses on a combination of incredible speed and agility, achieving 'Ichi no tachi' or attacking in one hit.
Because of this, he believed he would have the ease of studying Hoho and then Shunpo, though, he still thought he would be categorized as untrained. He only trains his body and some basic movements for a month, and, although he has a reiatsu, he still needs time to reach the threshold for Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu's extraordinary physical demands.
After filling their stomachs they are then herded into the Kido training field. Once they arrived, a vast open field welcomed their views. Training puppets could be seen in the distance, some new while others had faint marks on them.
This time the teacher wasn't around so they had to wait quite a while. A few moments later the teacher came and started his explanation.
Kido (Devil Art) is a form of Shinigami fighting based on advanced spells. These spells are produced with powerful Reiryoku and fall into two categories: Hado for direct attack, and Bakudo for battle support. It is one of the four basic Shinigami fighting styles. Kido spells are triggered by spells. Experienced users can trigger them without a spell, although the effectiveness of spells may be reduced.
Most spells are graded on a scale from 1 to 99, the latter being the most powerful and the most difficult to perform. To use Kido, a Shinigami must recite a specific mantra for the mantra, which is often long and takes a few seconds to speak.
There are three main types of Kido: binding spells, destructive spells, and healing spells.
Bakudo (Binding Charms): Additional spells that can incapacitate enemies or have effects other than direct attacks.
- Barriers (Kekkai): Focused spiritual energy is formed into a solid form of energy. This energy can take many shapes or colors as specified by the user. Barriers are protective, and can be as simple as a barrier that only protects one direction or covers all sides of an area. Barriers can be used for containment, and some barriers can be used offensively. Barriers can mask spiritual distress and can make a person invisible spiritually and physically.
- Seal (Fu): It is somewhat similar to a barrier, but it is much stronger and requires much more preparation to make it. Seals can only be used by those with sufficient spiritual power, and are intended to hold the most powerful and/or dangerous artifacts or creatures. Seals are usually difficult to break.
- Hado (Path of Destruction): Attacker spell that inflicts direct damage on the enemy. Their effectiveness differs depending on the user. It is said that the effectiveness of high-level spells is beyond imagination.
- Gisei Hado (Sacrifice Path of Destruction): Certain offensive spells such as Itto Kas that require the user to sacrifice a part of themselves in order to use them.
kaido (Turning Path): Also known as chiryoyo kido (Healing Spiritual Art). This spell has no known name, number, or spell to cast, and only heals the target. When a person heals with regular healing kido, they perform Reiatsu recovery first. Thus, one can try to recover the physical body using a restored patient Reiatsu and an external Reiatsu healer. Therefore, restoring Reiatsu when the physical body is in a state of complete recovery is not a problem at all.
This teacher also began to show various examples of kido and honestly Itsuki felt quite burdened with all the knowledge gained from the introduction of kido. Of the four basic fighting techniques of a Shinigami, it is the kido that he does not know how good he is.
After this was Zanjutsu, who everyone was waiting for. Arriving at the hall they walked into a place that looked like a dojo. The floor is laminated while the equipment is neatly placed on the side. Two teachers were standing waiting for them with one of them being Onabara Gengoro and a foreign man. After everyone calmed down, the foreign man began to introduce zanjitsu.
Zanjutsu (Sword art) is just kendo but for zanpakuto and is one of the four basic Shinigami fighting styles. It is a shame for a Shinigami not to master at least this technique.
Beginner – someone who has just started learning swords
Swordsman – someone who specializes in the use of Zanpakuto during battle.
A person with this level should have basic skills in swordsmanship as well. All seated Gotei 13 officers must have, at least, this level of skill.
Swordsman – someone who is very good at using their Zanpakuto when sealed or in his Shikai.
Most lieutenants were experts, as they had to get to know Shikai and had mastered him to some degree, in order to be promoted. This is true for some high-ranking officers as well and, in some cases, for captains who, although may have reached their Bankai, usually do not engage in swordsmanship as their desired form of combat.
Master swordsman – Master swordsman varies greatly in terms of strength and technique. The criteria for a master were simple; one had to have expert skills in swordsmanship above all else. Most Shinigami captains are masters, because, as the head of their division, they are the true military power of Soul Society. Since the use of Zanpakuto is the main form of Shinigami fighting, it is better to master the skills to achieve the rank of captain, although mastery is not excluded for them or even for Shinigami.
After all the introductions were done, some maids started carrying some boxes. Gengoro proceeded to open it and they were filled to the brim with standard katanas. They have a simple black handle and a black round sheath with slats 70 cm long and 3.2 cm wide.
Gengoro picked one up and started explaining.
"This is Asauchi, a nameless zanpakuto. This will now be given to you and hopefully you will wake him up. Meditate with him by putting a sword in your lap, try to connect with your spirit and learn your zanpakutom name . Take the sword on the way out, your schedule will be sent to you later today"
After saying his share, he disbanded the class and an Asauchi was handed over to Itsuki as he left.
As they left Rangiku turned around,
"Yomachi, Gin. What will be done now?"
"Maybe try and meditate with a sword" Gin replied as he looked towards Itsuki
"Exercise" A short word came out of Itsuki's mouth before she turned around and went to the training ground. Rangiku looked very sad as he looked at Itsuki's back. Yuroe, seeing this is trying to cheer him up
"Rangiku-san, want to go shopping, I need to buy some stuff for our room"
Hearing the word shopping, Rangiku's mood changed 180 degrees and a smile formed on his face.
"Let's go!" An excited voice came out from his mouth and he dragged Yuroe to the market.
Gin only sighed looking at Rangiku and prayed for his success moving the block of ice.
