His mystical eyes once again greeted the world as he slowly woke up. What greeted his gaze was a worn-out wooden roof with small cracks where one could peer into the sky. Seeing the scorching sun shining through the sky through the openings on the roof, he decided that it was currently noon.
Looking around he realized that he was alone, and the owner of this place barely survived. There is a small place where wooden utensils are stored, including some dirty dishes in a place that could be a kitchen. On the other hand, two makeshift beds like the one he currently occupied were planted on the ground. In the middle of this small hut there is a small area for firewood to withstand the cold that provides warmth for its residents.
It was a simple place that visitors rarely visited, yet to him it was terrifying. This was because wherever he looked, he could see lines everywhere and, in his heart, he knew that this was the conceptual line of death. He can notice that the more lines one object has, the closer it is to the end of its lifespan.
His mystical eyes looked different to those of Shiki Tohno, who saw jagged lines and death points as his eyes specialized in killing living things. They, in fact, looked similar to another user, Shiki Ryougi, whose eyes specialized in killing concepts. The mystical eye of death perception is different from that of each individual in the way they view death and their experiences. This can be seen because Shiki Tohno's eyes are some rank lower than Shiki Ryougi's eyes.
As he sank into his mind Rangiku entered the hut carrying a bucket of water and immediately saw him wake up. As his back was facing towards her, he never saw her eyes properly and instead called out.
"So you're finally awake?"
It caught his attention which caused him to turn around and look exactly at the person who called out his name. Identifying him as Matsumoto Rangiku, the future lieutenant of the 10th division of the Gotei 13, a clear excitement surfaced on his face. Fortunately, it goes unnoticed because it becomes strange if a random stranger is happy to see you, especially in a soul society where a person loses his or her memory once they enter a soul society.
Unfortunately, for Rangiku, he was too afraid to notice it. To him, he had just walked in and called the unconscious boy Gin had brought in yesterday to see him finally wake up. She saw him turn around anticipating to once again see her beautiful face as her expression reddened but was soon replaced by fear when she saw his eyes. He felt like death itself was grasping his heart and only one move was needed to kill him.
You can't blame him for the fact that once our main character sees him, his attention is instantly captured by the death line on Rangiku. Noticing Rangiku's skin turning pale white and the increased fear in his eyes, he quickly closed his eyes to stop scaring him further.
As soon as he closed his eyes, Rangiku seemed to wake up from a daze and fall backwards. Noticing the cold sweat running down his back, he once again looked at the boy only to realize that he had closed his eyes and the sensation of death was gone. Before he could escape, he heard a voice filled with guilt and apology.
"sorry"
A small voice rang out, but it was clearly heard by Rangiku as he saw him lower his head, his figure conveying his apology. Still shocked by the previous matter, he absent-mindedly replied
"It's okay" and continued to observe the boy from a distance.
The boy was surprised by the question but remembered his personality from the relaxing anime. He replied with a faint smile,
"I don't remember much but all I know is that my name is Minamoto, Minamoto Itsuki"
Once again, he became dazed but this time saw his smile. With the previous incident being pushed to the back of his head, he started asking more questions becoming more and more active even though there was still a hint of fear in his voice every time he spoke to her. Itsuki only sighed because there was nothing he could do and only needed to learn to control his eyes properly, so he would not start to scare everyone he saw.
As they continued to speak, slowly the fear of Rangiku began to subside as he got to know her further. He realized that he was just a new soul unaware of where he was and the current situation. That was what Itsuki wanted him to think because technically he was a new soul but only had his memories before his death. As the conversation slowly headed towards his eyes, Itsuki replied that he did not know or just avoided the topic at all. Recalling his encounter with his eyes, fear surfaced on his face but was quickly replaced by a determination to help this new friend to accept his situation.
This was interrupted by the growling sound coming from the boy's stomach as a faint red color appeared on his face. Realizing her embarrassment, lessened her more fear as this further showed that she was just another soul like him. Taking out some of the remaining stale bread, he handed it to her and found some cloth to help cover her eyes as Itsuki asked. As Itsuki ate the stale bread, he began to explain to her about the soul society.
Although Itsuki knew the general situation of the soul society, he did not know everything. Slowly listening to Rangiku's explanation, he gains a better understanding of the soul community knowing that he is in the 64th District of North Rukongai.
Part of the Soul Society, Rukongai is the most densely populated area divided into 320 districts, which can further be divided into 4 parts, North, East, East, South and West each contain 80 districts.
They are then each numbered in descending order starting from the 1 closest to the center and the Seireitei (which will be introduced further in the story). The number then increased further from the center, resulting in higher numbered districts and further decaying into slums.
Thus, although District 1 is peaceful and lawful, like the antiseptic lifestyle in early Edo-era Kyoto, District 80 is a violent, violent area, and full of evil that better describes Heian-era Kyoto.
Gin returned from collecting some firewood and more dried persimmon seeds. As soon as Gin enters, Rangiku appears and rushes to Gin to get the persimmon seeds he craves. Just as he was about to dig, he looked up as if recalling an important thing he had forgotten.
"I never introduced myself. My name is Matsumoto Rangiku, and this is my best friend Ichimaru Gin"
"It's nice to meet you, Ichimaru-san, Matsumoto-san. I'm Itsuki Minamoto"
