Jessica called back to Dania, not caring if it was midnight in Vegas. It doesn't matter if it's Dania's bedtime. Jessica needs a friend to talk to and if Demian is unable to say a word to her, Jessica has no alternative but Dania. The only person who would listen to her without judging her was only Dania.
"For god's sake, yeah..." Dania-in spite of her heavy-listening voice-heard Jessica's sighs. "What is Demian doing, actually?"
"I don't know, Dani. If I had known, I wouldn't have been this frustrated. I mean, what's the problem until he doesn't want to involve me? I think he brought me here because he wanted to get me involved." said Jessica, scrambling out of her mouth, very quickly and implying a glittering emotion. And it didn't stop there, Jessica continued.
"Well, even though I know it's a family matter and I don't have the right to interfere. What did I come here for, actually? A vacation? Hell.., if he did invite me here for the holidays, I'd rather buy a ferry ticket to Capri island than stay in this funeral home! I'm serious!"
"You should've bought that ferry ticket. You're in Italy now, the favorite country of tourists. You should have fun. Oh, my gosh. Jessee, it's not you once."
"I know. I should have gone back to Vegas."
"Just go back then!"
Dania's reply made Jessica's forehead constrict suddenly. A bell rang in his head. Like he had a revelation from heaven.
Also true.
Why would he allow himself to be depressed when the only solution to the stress he had accumulated in his mind right now was to go home. He can go home alone, for God's sake. Why is he torturing himself here? If Demian didn't need it, he should have just gone back to Vegas!
"Jesse?" Dania called.
"I just thought of something." - Jessica. "I think you have a point."
"Huh?"
"I'd better get back to Vegas."
"E-EH?" Why is Dania's voice now implying surprise? "Jesse, you know, for a second, I wasn't serious when I told you to go home. You don't listen to people talking at 3pm, it doesn't make sense. My words just now.., let's just say I'm delirious."
"Although you're delirious, your words are perfectly rational, Dani. You are my best friend."
"No, no." Dania panic. Demian could've fucked her if Demian knew she was the reason Jessica wanted to go back to Vegas. "I'm a bad friend, a bad one. I-Jesse, listen to me. I'm impulsive, you are, too, for being angry, being very impulsive."
"Huh?"
"I mean, you have to think long. Don't do anything just because you're angry. Cool your head, calm down.., take a deep breath and-"
"I'm not angry at all, Dania." That's it, Dania thought, Jessica's mode of denial. The girl must have been very angry that she left her empath and called Dania at 3 a.m. Ugh, my goodness!
How did Dania fix this situation?
"Jessee, what day is it?"
"Saturday."
"Yes.., it's saturday. Tomorrow's Saturday." At least, until sunrise, for Dania, today is Friday. "Because it's Saturday.., how about you..., um, wait?"
"I'm sick of waiting" said Jessica, her voice implying rejection. "I've been waiting like an idiot in this manor. I can't be patient anymore."
"Jesse, Jesse, my baby..." Dania. "Don't give up that fast. You're our boss, you're the owner of the coolest cafe in Vegas. You can't let that witch beat you! He'll laugh happily if you give in to your feelings."
Okay, Jessica is quiet. That means he listened to every word of Dania and gave consideration there.
A little more, Dania thought. He needs to be a little more smart.
"Let's say Demian is acting like an asshole right now, but. So...., how about waiting until he actually solves the problem?" Dania's voice squeaked doubtfully. Is his word right?
"You know that's not the problem, Dani. I need him to need me. I want him to trust me. Why would he tell me anything now? What's gonna happen?"
"That's the problem, my darling. The creature called the man, they're morons. Very-very stupid. They do not understand how to communicate like normal people. You know Demian, right? You remember he was willing to cheat on you for something he thought was better for you? Maybe the same thing is happening."
"..."
"You can't leave him, I mean..., you can, but..., do you want to leave him? Your relationship's only been corny, Jesse. You guys need..., compromise? No, what's the right word?"
Is this part of delirium too?
"Aah!" Dania found the right word. "You need to understand each other."
Such a simple word, how could he forget about it?
"Daniii.., what can I do without you?" Jessica, with a slightly eased anger, sat herself on the floor, her back leaning against the lips of the bed.
"Why does a relationship become this difficult? I just want a comfortable life with Demian, but why is it so hard to find peace?"
"You'll get the calm you want. These are just the usual tough times in natural beginners. I mean, since you're new together, there are some things you need to adjust, adapt, something you need to understand for each other
After all that happens, once you understand your partner, trust me, you'll find the peace you want."
"Do you feel that way?"
"Oh, my baby, believe me." Dania spoke in a voice that implied affection, and just listening to her voice, Jessica felt at ease. If there was no Dania, Jessica thought, she would end up crazy in this magnificent house.
"Dani.., I'm sorry to bother you, especially when you're resting..."
"Oh, what am I not going to give you? Just relax."
Jessica's smile flinched thinly for a moment. "Dani's..."
"mm?"
"I said I wanted to go back to Vegas, you know, like that. But, actually, I'm not sure I can go back to Vegas so easily."
"What do you mean?"
"I just have a bad feeling. I'm..."
Jessica doesn't know how to say it. Maybe he was so paranoid that he felt like every step of the way was being watched. That, the whereabouts of Lisa and Robin who were assigned as her escorts may have other tasks, Jessica does not know.
Jessica doesn't trust anyone.
"Jesse, tell me.., what are you worried about now?"
"I.." Jessica didn't want to sound crazy in Dania's ears. "Can you meet Oscar Brown for me?"
"Huh?"
"You remember I told you about it. He's Demian's friend... No, partner? That kind of."
"Yes, I remember. What's wrong with her?"
"Just.., I need someone I trust here. I trust him, so, I think he's capable of giving me that."
"Sheesh, Jesse? Do you think such a man can penetrate a mafia family?"
"I don't know, but he can protect Demian all this time so..."
"Oh, oh.., okay. I'll meet him for you. Now, relax a little. Okiie?"
"Mm, Okay."
After Jessica and Dania's phone ended, Jessica who was still leaning on the lip of the bed, looked up at the ceiling of the room. Dania's words were still fresh in her mind, asking her to be patient in the face of Demian. That, it was possible that Demian had something else that he could not say.
"Let's see when I can be patient" Jessica said to herself. Smile etched in slices.
