The Necromancers

The Necromancers
Ch. 22: Expedition of Mount Baurme

Based on information obtained by Friya, Mount Baurme is a trade route that leads to the next city, Lien City.

Lien is a port city that provides various types of fish, local food, and various types of culture in it.

As far as I can tell, Lien City is the largest port city in the world because they have a majority of merchants who are few in number so it makes it easier for other traders who are just starting to venture in Lien City.

Well, I can fully understand the sadness and bitterness of the trade route that was stopped suddenly.

Recalling a moment ago.

"Based on the information obtained from the book I read, Mount Baurme is located not far from Resihei City."

"Mount Baurme?"

"If not wrong, the mountains are filled with snow and snowstorms that never stop. The cold air can disturb anyone involved in the fight."

"....."

I don't know what to react to Reita's words.

In fact Reita has learned a lot from now on, without my knowledge. Moreover, he easily explained what the climate in the region knew without the slightest difficulty.

Ughhhh...

I don't know why I'm starting to feel distant from them in terms of information.

"Not only Mount Baurme is near Resihei City, the mountain itself has Fenrir that protects their own area and habitat without being disturbed by anyone."

Fenrir.

As far as I know, Fenrir is a creature that looks like a Demi-human. Whether their physique and abilities are stronger than average or just the opposite, I should not underestimate them in the least.

"And the terrible thing about this information is not about the whereabouts of Fenrir, but the effect that it would have if we were hit by the bite and claws of Fenrir."

"Are there any special influences that can occur?"

Nodding at Shilph's question, Friya walked towards the window, fell silent and turned her head towards Shilph.

"Yes. The special symptom is that they will get cold and slowly their bodies will turn into a herd of Fenrir."

"....."

"It was really terrible."

Reita who suddenly hugged me, I stroked her back.

It's only natural that he looks scared.

There is currently no more dangerous and deadly enemy than Friya's explanation of Fenrir's whereabouts. Most of the enemies we faced were just ordinary enemies with no special abilities and powers in them.

However, Fenrir's case looked different which made him special.

Bites and scratches from him could cause one to turn into a flock of Fenrir in an instant.

In other words, neither humans nor demons would dare to disturb their habitat easily because they knew the effect they would get was not a light effect.

Think of it like the case of Fuzikumibaru who can easily control the body of living things to serve as a Marionette. In Fenrir's case, Fenrir's herd will be adopted by Fenrir himself if they succeed in becoming his new partner.

It's really troublesome.

On the one hand, I was curious about the prowess of the abilities and powers Fenrir possessed. But on the other hand, I have to be careful and vigilant not to be exposed to any attacks from him.

It's like stepping on a trap without knowing where the trap is.

"Are we going to rush to Mount Baurme?"

"No, we're not going."

"Don't go?"

"What do you mean, Regard?"

It seems they have misinterpreted my rejection.

From the expressions of those who looked annoyed and resentful at the answer I gave, they thought I did not care about the soul that had been lost due to the ferocity of Fenrir.

I understand the worry and anxiety they feel, but our enemy is Fenrir so I don't know how far we can conquer it without one of us getting hurt.

"We need preparation first."

"Preparation?"

"Yes. The air on Mount Baurme is very cold because of the endless blizzard falling so we have to make preparations early by bringing the full necessities."

Although I said the need, I also wanted to try a new way so as not to have trouble in fighting later.

I don't know how much percentage of life can be achieved if we were on Mount Baurme. Whether it's high or low, I don't care at all.

As long as I apply the new method in this adventure, I can avoid the bad percentage as well as possible easily so as not to become a victim as experienced by the victims who turned into a herd of Fenrir.

"How long do we wait for him?"

"Sunday."

"Sunday?"

"Isn't that too long?"

"Yes. But, that's our best condition."

If we have no preparation, we will die.

I pointed that gaze at the three of them which made them understand the intent of the time needed later in the expedition to Mount Baurme.

"alright. If it wants you..."

"Yes, we'll obey."

"That's right."

"I'm sorry. I did it for the good of you and myself."

Acting before thinking is an irreparable carelessness. Likewise, thinking before acting is a wise thing to do to reduce the casualties while avoiding severe injuries that occurred during our time on Mount Baurme.

"Anyway, we'll leave after preparation is needed."

Finished reminding them, I stared at the table which contained a lot of material ores that I managed to store well in the [Dimension Portal] after resuscitating Reita in the Urei Mining.

Making something is the right thing.

Moreover, I get additional skills such as [Blacksmith] from my own father as well as [Alchemy] from my mother that I can say useful in exploring Mount Baurme.

Using my ability to change the ore materials, I turned some of them into forms that were in my world first.

Finished making firearms, I proceeded to make bullets from different material ores. Not forgetting to apply the new method, I put some necessary abilities into the bullets to be efficient in the fight later.

Sip. Already done.

This weapon is needed in desperate conditions in unexpected situations such as Mount Baurme which is likely to be lost focus and concentration due to the cold there.

Firearms equipped with multiple bullets coated with fire elements, reinforced using soil, and useful crystals to take your eyes off the bright rays really make it look great and cool.

The rest is to test how far this will be effective.

•••••

Inside the horse carriage that consisted of four people in The Necromancer made them face to face with each other. Unlike their horse carriages, the other three horse carriages were filled by the Royal Knights who were ready to start an expedition on Mount Baurme.

"Are you sure you invited him to come with us?"

"Yes. Don't worry about it. Arthen can handle anything that's nearby better than me."

"....."

Kanae who still did not believe Veru's words, pondered and thought for a moment.

According to Kanae, involving others in their expeditions only slowed down the progress. No matter whether he was a veteran adventurer or an ordinary city dweller, as long as they participated then the burden that the Royal Knights had to bear felt heavier than before.

Veru who was in front of him, smiled. He certainly understood the intent of his words earlier.

Although Kanae seems serious and frightening, Veru believes in her that there is a conscience that makes her act to protect them.

It was obvious from how her worried and worried expression made Veru feel that she was much inferior to Kanae in her concern for the people around her.

Veru's proof always involves Regard on a gruesome and terrifying expedition whenever he finds a dangerous opponent regardless of Regard's feelings at all.

For several hours they traveled, finally they arrived at Mount Baurme.

"Thank you for the ride, sir."

"Yes. Please be careful! If anything happens to you, I want you to leave this mission immediately."

"Good."

Waving her hands at him, the smiling Regard as if a plain man who looked different from the Regard they knew made them speechless.

In contrast to The Necromancer's group, the knight army arrived several minutes longer than the horse-drawn carriage that contained Regard and his comrades.

"Are you ready?"

"Yes." Yeah."

Before the expedition, as much as possible they pulled over into the distance to get out of Mount Baurme to the Ukar Plain.

In the Ukar Plain, they used some warm clothing inside their coats, handkerchiefs, winter shawls, hats, thick shoes, and thick pants they used without exception.

Veru and Kanae were confused over what they were doing.

Not only the two of them, the knights simply did not expect that they could change clothes easily without the slightest difficulty in the wild.

With the exception of the girls, who had used the barrier so as not to be seen by anyone made it easier for them to change clothes.

"alright. Let's do it."

"Yes." Yeah."

Ignoring the strange tastes possessed by the adventurers who were with them, Kanae smiled and turned her gaze to the depths of Mount Baurme.

Tracing on foot, The Necromancer is in the middle row. In the front row was led by Kanae and her royal knight army, and behind the line was Veru and his royal army who oversaw the situation.

How's this, Regard?

Do we have to exert our abilities?

No, we don't need to look flashy right now.

Is it okay to pretend to be weak?

Yep.

Through [Mind Reading] in his head to communicate, Regard was sure that if they acted out of the expectations, the royal knights would not hesitate to execute the four of them, except Veru.

For Regard, Veru is a trustworthy person so it is easy for him to exert all his strength and abilities without having to worry about himself in the future.

Unlike Veru, Kanae doesn't seem to look trustworthy.

His actions and expression really showed himself as a serious knight in living anything in his life. It could be said he was much better than Veru, but he was inferior in terms of trust than Veru.

That was why letting Kanae know about herself as a Necromancer was the wrong choice. He will lose everything he has in the world he is now. Starting from homelessness, trust, and purpose, Regard will also receive hate speech and insults perpetually perpetrated by people against him.

Not only will he lose everything, Regard will be invited by the devil to come with him which causes his future to be destroyed.

"....."

Going to a different place, Regard pulled over to the edge of the area.

"Where are you going, son?"

"We. The four of us want to throw water first. Can I?"

"All right."

Smiling at the permission given by Kanae, Veru was sure it was only a mere Regard excuse.

Veru actually knew that Regard deliberately moved away so that he did not look conspicuous in front of the public, especially the knights and Kanae who were in the front row.

"Be careful, son!"

"Yes." Yeah."

"certain."

"Thank you for the warning."

The four of them went out of line without a care for their safety.

Reita, do you feel it?

Yep. In the depths of the cave not far away, there was a herd of wolves and a much stronger figure.

Friyas!

I feel it too.

Convinced this was an opportunity to hunt first, Regard's only wish was to fight Fenrir and find out the reason behind his actions.

As long as there was little information from Friya, Regard could not predict the reason why Fenrir looked so cruel and frightening to humans passing through the Baurme Mountains.

"It's..."

Passing through the endless blizzard, they saw that a pack of wolves was lying on the ground.

Their blood-soaked bodies, their partially broken limbs, and some missing limbs made Regard and others feel this place was truly terrible.
