The Versatile
Chapter 22's

The sound of police car alarms was still heard behind them even though it was not far enough. But what makes them have to keep going is a shot that they can not reply.

“Sial, where did they get those weapons? we will be caught if not counterattack!” Hamish shouted tensely.

“Do you see the big gas carrier car there? step on your gas pedal faster and overtake in front. He will turn when braking suddenly and will roll over if we are lucky.”

“Good. I'm following your advice! Better to try than nothing.”

Hamish pressed the accelerator even faster, he almost matched the gas carrier. The car almost turns when Hamish tries to overtake, but the bus driver can compensate for the car.

They are not trying to fail. When Hamish hit the brakes. The gas-carrying car fell and caused the gas to leak. But the men kept shooting at him and making the gas explode.

Explosions were heard behind them. Josh and Hamish laughed together. “Did you guys of old do something like this while being hunted?”

Hazel smiled followed by the sound of a second explosion. Completely chaotic, things got worse as all the television news covered the entire incident lately. Starting from the arrest of a girl who uses martial arts after a few years ago no one has done it. And the shooting that happened on the road. All the news and newspapers continued to preach the issue and link it up.

Even one of the televisions broadcast a live show about the suspect's determination. The reporters asked where the men got the weapons from and why the girl could perform the martial arts technique that had been banned hundreds of years ago. They also asked if they were terrorists. Nothing that can be answered by the authorities.

Josh pressed the small button in front. A large screen covered the front window that looked like a television. And strangely the screen did not block Hamish's view from the streets at all. He can drive and watch television, doing the work at the same time. That's what Hazel thought. But he did not want to say it, he was afraid of being called an ancient person again.

“Great, now they will assign our crime.”

“What does that mean? We'll be designated as terrorists or something?” ask Hazel in doubt. His eyes continued to look at someone on the television who was no stranger to him. Even during their first meeting he still remembered the color of his brown eyes.

Hazel did not like the man, but the image of the man who had lied to her was recorded in her brain like a broken cassette.

“What is Haikal?” hamish asked in shock.

Hazel couldn't look at the man anymore. It felt that if he looked at that person he was very eager to hit his smooth face with his punch. Even he wanted to shoot the guy in front of a lot of people or he could torture him and ask for information from him. But Hazel wasn't that cruel person. Even if he has betrayed his own country.

“Sial! What's Haikal doing there? he wants to get caught? Or does he want to tell the truth?” Hamish wiped his hair.

They were all silent and carefully watching the suspect's imposition. Haikal stood on the podium and spoke. Then the man told the suspect's photo by showing it on the same screen as the television in the car. The first photo shown was Hazel. That's obvious. Josh and Hamish.

“These three people are a group of people who are troubling us,” Haikal started talking. “This girl,” Haikal shows Hazel's photo. “He confessed, that he is from the past. Do you know what the past is like? The worst dark period of human history. He's here to change the past. But as we know, if the past is changed then the future also changes. Do you want our future like the past?” haikal's voice echoed throughout.

The people and reporters fell silent and then cheered in disagreement.

Hazel was silent in the car. The goal is not to change the past and Haikal knows it. But in reality Haikal said that bitter thing. “I thought he was betraying. Now look, he makes us all know us.” Hazel grumbling.

“But he didn't mention Spencer. We still have hope.” Josh cheers.

They were on the news again. “Whoever can find this man and hand him to us alive we provide three hundred thousand units,” Haikal swings the most evil smile Hazel has ever seen.

“See now! They make us into hunted.” Hazel's getting upset. I think he really wanted to punch Haikal. Very and very wanted.

The road they were walking on began to drift apart. That means good. Hamish stopped at a house with the same door carving as his father's home in America. But the difference is used as the main door of this house.

Hazel ran to the door and it opened itself. “I think this door recognizes me.” Hazel smiled at Josh and Hamish.

“Similar to me,” Josh smiled back.

Hazel does not believe that what she sees is really like the home of her father she saw in America. He did not know how his father could make two similar houses in different places. And it's really the same. Every corner and item and layout are the same. Only the door is different. The front door with carvings and the door of his father's office with an ordinary door without carvings.

Hazel. Josh rested himself on the couch. Hamish filled the place with pizza. It's been a long time since their escape Josh hasn't tasted steam food. At Hazel's father's house there is a refrigerator with various contents of food that can be chewed. He thinks it's better.

Josh followed Hamish into the kitchen. “Hey, what are you doing? Don't open that closet!” hamish's orders.

“Why? I'm hungry!”

“There is food there?” ask Hamish curiously.

Without a doubt Josh opened the closet. It was a refrigerator. Lots of food that Hamish has never seen before.

“Ways big enough to store food. Hey, what is it?” his hand was pointed at a long, red food.

“I don't know either, just try it might be good.”

“You sure this is non-toxic?”

“Suage me anyway not.”

Hamish took the food and tried to eat it. Hazel came and patted Hamish until the food was blown away.

“You didn't know what you were going to eat was chili. You guys know chili right?”

“Really? I know, but I never saw him. That's it.”

“If you're hungry I'll make you some food later,” Hazel said as she closed the freezer, “We need to talk. Follow me.”

Hazel walks out of the kitchen, Josh follows her and Hamish follows behind them. Josh still remembers this house, but when Hazel took him somewhere. He doesn't remember what this place is.

“I know you won't remember this place Josh.” Hazel wiped her frustrated face.

A place filled with glass. All floors, walls, even roofs are made of glass. They entered the room. Large enough for a confusing place. Hazel turned around a few times. Josh and Hamish have searched the place and found nothing. This place looks straight like an empty hallway if you look, but when you walk it follows. You're gonna feel this place coiling.

“Great, you guys see this place is just a hallway. But when you walk that way then you will find a passage that turns,” said Hamish amazed.

“Eye illusion,” Josh muttered.

“Yes, I think my dad used it to outwit people. But I guess this might be more of a place to outwit people.”

“Alright, we check later. I think I'm hungry,” Hamish complained.

“I'll make you good food. Recipes Indonesia.”

“Wow. Can you make Indonesian food?”

“Sure, just a little heck.”

Hazel was the last person to close the door. And Hazel went straight to the kitchen. Without a doubt he took the vegetables and ingredients to make fried rice. He never tried to make it, but he did when Hazel lived in Haikal's house.

“Haikal? Wait from where can he cook food when Hamish alone does not know chili? This guy really makes me curious and wants to beat him up,” grumbled Hazel.

After a few minutes of cooking, Hazel immediately served it. Of course his father had plates and glasses and other cutlery. Maybe his father while living here didn't want to taste the strange steam food.

“This fried rice. Sorry if it's not good, I've never tried to make it. But I've felt it and I'm very good at tasting.”

Josh and Hamish take the plate with the fried rice. Hamish hesitated to take it, as Hamish did not know how to eat using food utensils. Usually, he can only swallow the food. But Hamish was very curious. He wanted to know what it was like to chew and eat cooked fried rice. Not steam.

She saw Hazel take her rice with a spoon and put it in her mouth. Hamish followed him. The first second when the food entered his mouth he felt a sensation he had never felt before.

“This, really delicious. It's so good than feeling the steam.” Hamish devoured the food to the end.

Hazel immediately cleaned up all the leftovers. He washes dishes and tidies everything. After he finished he laid his body down for a moment on the sofa and turned on the television. Hamish came out of his room and sat down next to Hazel.

Their shoulders touched and Hazel felt the same way when she was alone with Spencer. But not because Hamish is similar to Spencer, or in other words he likes Hamish because it is similar to Spencer. Hazel does like Spencer, but she likes Hamish's indifferent nature.

“So how long have you been here?” Hamish.

“Now, I don't remember.” Hazel's shoulders are now stiffening.

“You know, there are things that make me interested in you,” Hamish said again.

Hazel scrunched her forehead. “You mean?” hazel's gaze was still on the television screen, even though he was eager to look at Hamish.

“Yes. You're not like the other girls. I mean, not that you're not pretty. But more than that. You are strong, never show your weakness to others. Even though I know you must have a weakness.”

Seconds passed after Hamish said that. But Hazel simply fell silent without saying a word. His tongue was stiff to say something.

“Good. I want to rest.” Hamish leaves Hazel from the room.

In Hazel's heart she kept swearing. ′Stupid, stupid, stupid. Why are you quiet, Hazel?′ he turned off the television and walked out.

Hazel stood right in front of the door. The air gets colder at night. Considering the weather here is manageable, they must think Hamish, Josh, and Hazel have nowhere to stay and are cold out here.

Therefore rain makes it easier for them to find them, because it can slow their movement. Yeah, if they don't have a place to stay. Not if they have a place to live.

Hazel lowered her head, leading to the street in front of her house. The rain had fallen since then, incessantly dripping down one drop after another. In Hazel he kept wondering. He could be as free as the rain that falls everywhere. Or like rain that can rise from a dark slump and wake up again with the appearance of a rainbow.
