The Versatile
Chapter 8's

“How is it?” spencer asked the medics there.

“Their heartbeats are all stable, it looks like they are having a long sleep. But they realized,” explained the doctor.

“I mean they realize they're here?” ask Spencer again, who is worried.

“Yes, but not with this one.” The doctor points to Hazel, Spencer's face is getting worried because Hazellah is the core here.

Spencer kept staring at Hazel, hoping that nothing would happen to her. What would Hazel say if she was now marrying him. Hazel would have laughed because she doesn't normally behave like that.

Olivia, watching him, approached Spencer. He patted the man on the back, but said nothing. Then he left. Today was quite tiring for him, maybe he needed to rest or take a short walk. So, Spencer decided to take a walk out, rather than she having to continue to be there and daydream. That's not his type to daydream.

The afternoon air is not so cold, but at night it will feel cold. Spencer had undressed his work clothes before he left wearing only a hoddie-coated t-shirt and long jeans. Many other people were also taking an afternoon walk to the park. Similarly to Spencer, the park can be a great place to unwind.

Spencer approached an empty garden chair. Then he sat there, under the shady trees. Many children are running around even young children who are alone near the pool. Spencer was silent in his chair, his eyes not blank, but his mind was drifting away.

Looking for a way to get to know Hazel's thoughts. Hazel was physically like a dying man. His body was here while his spirit floated far away.

Spencer's thoughts about Hazel continue to haunt him. However, he knew he had to let go of it all, he was just part of his job. But he has loved the girl since they met.

The trees seemed to whisper his words to Spencer. But Spencer didn't understand what he had said. It was getting late and he kept thinking about Hazel. Suddenly he was ready to do something. Spencer got up from the park chair, and he quickly walked away from the park. This time, he's headed for Hazel's house.

Hazel awakens when she hears voices outside her room. He checked the clock, seven o'clock in the night. He didn't know if the watch he was wearing was the same as the clock here. Because the watch he wears shows the time of his day. There were no windows or holes to see outside, so Hazel decided to leave her room. The metal floor feels warm, when it should feel cold.

“Hai, you sleep well once. You must be tired.” A voice behind him.

“Oh, hi Josh. What time is it now?” ask Hazel to Josh.

“Now, I think it's seven o'clock. Wh why? You need anything?” ask her back to Hazel.

Josh's clothes look messy, but to be honest that's what attracted Hazel to him. Maybe it's a good time to forget Spencer. Though he's not sure if he'll ever see Josh again after this.

“Hey, do you need anything?” ask Josh again. Because Hazel was just staring at him.

“Oh, sorry. No. gabe. But I think I'm a little hungry.”

“Alright, follow me!”

Hazel follows Josh behind her. Josh's fragrance tastes like fruit and it makes Hazel like to be around him. “Where's your mom and dad?” ask Hazel.

“They are in a family meeting. Actually, it's just the two of them. Because I don't want to come for this one. Usually mixed with quarrel.”

“Do you guys always do family meetings?” ask Hazel who seems confused. He never did anything like that in his day. Usually just a casual discussion like his allowance would be reduced if he came home late and such.

“Not really, this is only done if there are circumstances that really should be discussed. Has your family never had a family meeting?”

Hazel and Josh were standing in his backyard. Josh was sweeping the night sky. Hazel follows Josh to see the beautiful night sky. However, Hazel has just realized something.

“Josh, where is the moon and its star?” ask Hazel.

“I know you're a dreamer. I also hope that the moon and stars are not a legend.” Josh smiled and went inside the house.

Hazel just kept quiet to hear Joah. Either that explanation sounds strange or it doesn't. Hazel does not know the way of thinking and the life of her present age. Maybe he was the only ancient person who lived here, of course he was from a thousand years ago. Who is the one who lives at the age of a thousand. The answer is, nothing.

 ***

Spencer is right in front of Hazel's house. The house where he first drove Hazel and the first time he met the girl, where he first chased Hazel. Spencer breathed slowly. Hazel hasn't been home in a long time either. I don't know what Spencer should say if his mother asks about Hazel. There's no way she's saying that Hazel's okay and she can't tell him.

Spencer knocked on the door. Not long after a woman who was of course Hazel's mother. “Sorry is this the residence of the Skylar family?”

“Ya, what's up?” ask the woman.

“Can you show me where Mr. workspace is. Skylars? I'm from the police.” Spencer showed me his badge. “I have to find something there.”

“Sure, please!” his mother let Spencer in. Then Spencer followed the woman. He opened a room and let Spencer in. Then the woman left him alone. Spencer shut the door, he began his search.

He didn't know where to start, so he opened a drawer on his desk. Lots of piles of paper and whether the papers will be useful or not. A painting hung on the wall.

The painting depicts a man standing alone and behind him there are many people who look miserable. He was not a painting expert, but from the material he was holding he could feel it was not a canvas cloth, even the paint looked brand new. Spencer believes this painting must have been a long time ago, but why the paint is still new.

“I think it's weird,” Spencer said. Then he touched the painting and grabbed it, just as he touched and pressed on the part of the person who seemed to be standing on his own, the painting suddenly went inside. Replaced with a small finger-sized hole. Spencer thought there would be something in it, so he put his index finger in.

“Aw, what the fuck?” Spencer pulled his finger back. Like something bit him.

Without him knowing a door was open. Spencer approached the door, he tried to open it but could not. There may be a hidden key to open this door, but it does not have a keyhole like the other doors.

Spencer searched this place. Starting from drawers, cabinets, and even other places. But he couldn't find the key. There is only a bracelet made of iron that looks like a GPS bracelet that parents commonly use for their children so as not to disappear. But there's no way that Hazel's father kept this to himself. If it's for Hazel there's no way she's keeping it, it's certain she'll find this in Hazel's room, not in Mr. Skylars.

Spencer took the bracelet, then approached the door. A laser lit up and detected the bracelet, the door then opened abruptly. Spencer walked up to the door. Maybe it was a secret room. Hazel's father was not a spy, but as an important person in the country obviously he had to have his own secret room. Not even one of his family knew about this place.

The air around Spencer is turning warm. He did not know, whether his sudden body temperature had changed drastically or because of something else. The room was like an elevator, out of curiosity Spencer walked into it. The room was enough for five people, but I don't know what it was.

The door closed suddenly, but Spencer didn't dodge it. He just stood up and fell silent in the room. Now the room felt like it was swaying and Spencer was feeling nauseous. But his legs were still steady to stand.

Not long after, his eyes felt dark. Then he fell down and hit something. Spencer initially thought there was a large object underneath that was made of iron. Because his gaze was still a little blurry he tried to stand up and balance his body. What he saw now was a road made of a mixture of iron and aluminum. Strong but not too hard.
