How much he later admired Diah's patience and kindness as a wife that he might find difficult to find in the future, Bram really admired him now, unfortunately, he only realized it when they had ended their marriage with the word divorce.
"Mother will go up to the room to deliver a meal for your father. He's not feeling well, his uric acid is crumpled so can't eat together." Mother Diah brought a plate of rice complete with side dishes.
"Please eat." Pamit the soft-faced middle-aged woman before leaving the dining room.
A moment later, Diah and Bram looked awkwardly, while Bella was engrossed in chewing her food.
"Papa, Bella's gonna go grab some ice cream with papa. Can you?" bella asked as her mouth was filled with fried chicken.
"May.of course I can." Bram said, turning his eyes to Bella and scooping her mouth.
How longing awakens when his memory of a few memories of eating at the same table in the past, although only a few memories that they had sat at the dining table together often even done without talking but the situation now a little much to make Bram try to remember it.
The sound of the clink of the spoon is smoother with the plate. Diah and Bram pretend to be busy with their food when they are both busy with their own thoughts.
"You didn't tell mom and dad why we got divorced?" Bram asked slowly, the curiosity felt very tickling.
For a moment Diah fell silent and raised her face, glancing at Bella who was so engrossed in eating next to Bram.
"The cause is that we're no longer in line..." Answer Diah later.
"You didn't say it because I did..."
"Mas Bram." Diah cut in with a sharp voice.
"I don't need to indulge your guilt in order to make my bond status so noble in the eyes of others. Let your fault be your business with God and what I am going through is one of the trials I have to undergo. My parents have been quite shaken up with our divorce, I don't need to add a wound to their hearts by saying the reason behind our divorce."
"But I'm uncomfortable as if the cause of this divorce is you."
"Whoever causes it, it makes no difference. Farewell has happened. I feel like this is really the best way. Can we not bring it up anymore?" Diah scoops the rice onto Bella's plate, talking without turning to Bram.
Bram was silent without sound, trying to enjoy his rice, which when swallowed felt so heavy through his throat.
Diah's voice sounded light but felt like a slap in Bram's face. He had actually made a huge mistake by letting go of Diah.
Bram and Diah returned to their plates, but at the table they were now a normal and happy little family but were regrettable after the sinking of a marriage.
Bella who is greedy as if not concerned with the talk of papa and her mother that she enjoyed her fried chicken, the cuisine of her mother who most in her tribe. Bram feels how different it is now, dealing with his estranged ex-wife.
Even during their marriage, throughout the marriage he never called Diah affectionate, papa-mama, fathers like everyone else usually to the wife. He called out to Diah with a name that he would call out in a high tone. There was nothing special about him in appreciating Diah's existence.
As they were about to finish eating, when Diah drew up her plate, Bram raised his head to Diah.
"May I ask you something?"
"Yes?"
"Are you and Doddy in a relationship after our divorce?" The question sounded doubtful and careful, when it was thrown by Bram.
Diah's eyes rounded in amazement at Bram's question, he couldn't hide how shocked he was at hearing the question coming out of Bram's mouth.
"You mean?" Behind him asked.
"Has Doddy finally been honest with you that he's loved you for so long?"
