Poison Eve

Poison Eve
Chapters 9

"I am General Montrosecov.." the bald-headed snail dressed in imperial military attire introduced himself. "The Emperor sent us to convey that His Majesty intended to provide compensation for the Katz family" he said straightforwardly and regularly.

Evelyn tried to listen to the man's conversation, while half her mind was still floating around imagining the shiny black long-haired man's face she met at the Cultural Hall.

"In addition, after we reviewed the results of the excavation of your talent yesterday, His Majesty the Emperor also decided to grant you a scholarship for the field of spiritual martial arts. So, especially for you the empire intends to enroll you into one of the spiritual martial institutes in the capital."

Evelyn was stuck with both eyes wide. Then look at his mother.

"We have also provided shelter, and one more thing" the man took out a handkerchief and wiped his sweaty face. "We've had talks with the institute so you can go straight into the third semester."

Evelyn was immediately bowed with a grim look.

Wild grass!

A useless protective fairy!

A useless protective fairy is still useless!

Accept reality!

Those blasphemous words he could not get out of his head.

He believed his talent was not useless at all.

It's just... You think, as it increases, what can weeds become?

The words of the talent digger flashed in his mind.

"Protectors are useless, remain useless," he murmured even more grimly. Then shakes in despair.

"Eve," his mother interrupted with a flat face. "No one expects you to reach the top of the world. But the grace of the emperor. Wouldn't it be impolite to refuse him?"

"But.." Evelyn blinked and gulped. He tried to encourage himself to look at his mother even though he knew what she looked like. "Because it's a gift from the emperor, doesn't that mean I can't disappoint him? What if I fail?"

"You won't be punished just because you failed in education!" the cold-faced beautiful man suddenly interjected while glaring and smiling faintly. You could say a cynical smile.

Evelyn fell back.

"This is a gift, Miss Katz!" the beautiful man reminded Evelyn. "And the destiny of a gift is to be received. Your job is to accept it. Just like your born talent, it is a gift. And he will remain yours whether you accept it or not. Whether you use it or not."

Then suddenly, silently and without warning, the beautiful man looked into Evelyn's eyes, and the girl found herself just frozen under the gaze of her blue eyes. Not moving, not blinking, not even breathing.

The bald-headed middle-aged man cleared his throat slowly. "This is Master Xenephon Claus of the institute in question!" He introduced the beautiful man.

Evelyn stuttered immediately.

Illusion City…

Evelyn looked dazzledly at the magnificent towering giant building before her eyes as she had just descended from the horse carriage in front of a tall gate that read: MORFEUS ACADEMY.

Uh--oh, Evelyn thought surprised. I can't believe this is—The Dream God Academy?

Is this one of the most famous institutes?!

I must be dreaming!

Evelyn looked around with eyes and mouth rounded, scrutinizing the tops of the buildings and its glittering tower with the delighted expression of a small child. "I've only heard of the Dream God Academy. I never imagined this so much…"

"That's amazing?" cut Xenephon.

"Like a dream" Evelyn said excitedly.

The students stared at Evelyn with eyes splashed as Xenephon guided the girl across a vast garden with a large circular fountain in the middle of which was a golden statue of the God of Dreams.

Evelyn observed the statue with sparkling eyes.

Evelyn observed everyone with a frown.

Three girls with menor makeup laughed giggling under the fountain as they flashed.

Evelyn turned her gaze away from the statue and turned to Xenephon. Then look around.

The two man-men and women, glanced at Evelyn with a sinister gaze.

"Why is everyone staring at me?" evelyn asked uncomfortable.

"No need to wonder" said Xenephon. "Bringing from a small town to the capital is enough to make you hot news!"

Evelyn turned to Xenephon.

"Not to mention, the matter of your protective elf, plus Lord Vox himself who will guide you directly, I think that's more than enough to make you an object of intrigue." Xenephon added expressionlessly.

"What does it mean that Lord Vox himself will guide me directly?" evelyn asked not to understand.

"That means Lord Vox himself will be your guardian" replied Xenephon.

"Absolutely, Lord Vox is not a guardian?" Evelyn asked again.

Xenephon chuckled thinly. "Of course not" he answered.

Evelyn frowned.

"Let me tell you," Xenephon said as they walked down the main corridor. "The meaning of Guardian, Master and Lord is much different. And one more thing. Every Spiritual Master can only study for one person, or you won't be recognized by everyone." Xenephon turned to Evelyn. "Have you ever heard of the Order of Angelos?"

The Order of Angelos is a global elite organization that controls wealth and legal control across the continent.

"The famous Order of Angelos?" Evelyn widened her eyes. "Who doesn't know?"

"Master Vox is the head of the Order of Angelos" whispered Xenephon dramatically.

"Huh?" Evelyn spontaneously flabbergasted.

"This institute is his!" Xenephon added.

Evelyn gulped with difficulty and stuttered. "Ja—so my guardian...my guardian is the head of the Order of Angelos?"

"Lord Vox never accepted a disciple" Xenephon told the court. "You are the first and only student. That refers to awesome performance!"

"Oh, I doubt I can get any achievement," Pessimistic Evelyn said, looking at the training ground.

"Humb heart won't help you in this academy, Young Miss!" xenephon tips in a flat tone. "Strength and courage must come first."

"Look at them," Evelyn muttered as she looked at the envy of the group of practicing disciples, who seemed to be much younger than her, where the average disciple already had a spiritual chakra. "I don't fit in here."

"And it's my job to make sure you fit in here" said Xenephon, smiling.

"You must be the head of the academy or the higher-ups!" terka Evely.

"I'm just a guest who hitchhikes for free here," Xenephon cut out quickly.

Their steps had now reached the stairs.

Evelyn frowned and turned to Xenephon. "How do I call you?"

"Call me Master Claus, like the others!" Xenephon. "Everyone calls me that even though I'm not a teacher. You should also call so to all the teachers here" he added. Then push a pair of doors into a room.

"Master Claus! You're back yet?" a man greeted Xenephon with a bow.

Then came two other men - a man and a woman. They also bowed.

Their clothes all look like royalty.

And they all bow!

Only guests? thought Evelyn while glancing at Xenephon through the corner of her eye.
