Nasab prophet Yaqub as (Biography/Biodata )
Before entering the story of the prophet Ya`kub as then we need to know the nasab or lineage of the prophet Jacob as, which is as follows: Prophet Ya'qub and Ishau were born by Rifqah, who was born, when the prophet Ishaq was 60 years old in the land or state of Palestine. These two twins were born with the body of Ishau as the first to come out followed by the body of the prophet Ya'qub a.s in a state of hand grasping the heel of his brother. Ishaq loved Ishau very much because Ishaq considered that Ishau as the eldest son would receive an inheritance from his father. Meanwhile, Ya'qub was a favorite grandson of the prophet Abraham because Ya'qub was happy to stay at home to be close and learn from him. Ya'qub also became the favorite son of his mother, Rifqah, because the youngest son liked to help and diligently take care of the house to relieve the work of parents, so the name of the father of the prophet Yaqub is the prophet Ishaq 'alaihissalam
The Story of Ya'qub and Ishau
The story or story of the prophet Jacob as originated from two grandchildren of the prophet Abraham, at first had similarities with each other, both of them learned knowledge to the grandfather in his old age. Ishau admired his grandfather for his abundant wealth and respectable worldly standing which was respected by many; ja'qub praises Allah, who bestows many gifts on his grandfather, so he prays that God will do the same for him. As time passed, in the story of the next prophet Ya'qub is Yaqub who at that time was not yet a prophet became more determined to worship Allah SWT, as taught by the prophet Ibrahim. On the other hand, Ishau thought that to follow the success of his grandfather, he had to leave home and go wandering alone but still devoted to parents as the Prophet Ibrahim traveled to Palestine.
In the story of the prophet Ya'kub, but Ishau has a different purpose, Ibrahim leaves the ancestral land to carry out God's command, while Ishau intends to get a lot of worldly possessions and luxuries. As a testament to his filial attitude towards his parents, especially his father, Ishau hunted many animals to give to Ishaq, who loved to eat meat. Ishau's attitude adds to Ishaq's confidence that he will hand over the inheritance to Ishau.
When his grandfather's death approached, Ishau was astonished and did not believe that a man as great as Abraham had to face the death that ended all the achievements in the world. Ishau decides to go far to forget this pain. Ishau suspects that there are people who use magic to hurt his grandfather, so he is determined to kill the person who is known to have wanted to kill Prophet Ibrahim, King Namrudz. Ishau goes armed with a sword while searching for the place where King Namrud is. Upon discovering Namrudz hunting in the meadow, Ishau stabs Namrudz' body in the back, and Namrudz strikes Ishau's body. He was surprised to see Ishau, who reminded himself of the prophet Abraham. Ishau cursed King Namrud while declaring himself a descendant of Abraham who took revenge for what he had done to his grandfather. Despite a violent attack on his body, Ishau manages to kill Namrudz, and Ishau flees against the army of King Namrud who comes and pursues him.
And in the story of the prophet ya'qub as further that While Ishau decided to leave, Ya'qub remained at home and he was questioned by Abraham about the cause of this existence. Ya'qub replied that he believed that God was always with his grandfather so Ya'qub wanted to be close to him. Hearing this, Abraham blessed the grandson; declaring that he would inherit the blessing of grace from Ishaq; it was a rare blessing from Allah to Abraham, which was then passed down to Ishaq. Ya'qub was surprised to hear this, because he was not the firstborn who had an advantage in the eyes of the father. But Abraham calmed his grandson by saying that the gift came from the side of Allah, moreover, Allah made a covenant that Ya'qub had long been established as the heir of the Abrahamic family, so that Ya'qub is destined to obtain special gifts in the world and in the hereafter. Ya'qub also testified with the sons of Abraham about the will of the inheritance of God such is the story of the prophet ya'kub as
When Ishau returns home, he is dying and exhausted from the fight against King Namrudz, then he came across the prophet Ya'qub who was cooking red bean soup to entertain the guests who mourned the dead prophet Abraham. The starving Ishau urged, shouting for food to Ya'qub, and even Ishau declared that he was willing to give anything for his life. Ya'qub was willing to give food if Ishau was willing to sell the rights of the firstborn to her in exchange for the food; then Ishau agreed to this requirement because Ishau did not yet understand the privileges of the firstborn. After finishing the meal, Ishau feels reborn and rejoiced, since then Ishau named himself as Edom (the red).
Acts of Jacob as Heir to the prophet Ishaq as
In the story of the prophet ya'kub it follows that After having the rights of the firstborn of Ishau, Ya'qub legitimately acquired the privileges of being the eldest son of Ishaq. Meanwhile, Ishau's name is increasingly recognized among the inhabitants of Cana'an for his courage to defeat Namrudz alone. Ibrahim's tomb, which is located in the Hiti tribal region, is often visited by Ishau because he regrets not participating in the mourning. When the Hiti tribe, one of the Cana'an tribes, discovered Ishau's presence in the vicinity, they wanted to marry their daughters to Ishau, who was a grandson of Abraham, for Ishau to be an ally to the Cana'an tribe in the war against the enemy. This marriage caused deep disappointment for both Ishau's parents. Through this marriage, Ishau had broken the mandate of Abraham who had once served so that his descendants would not marry people of Cana'an descent. Since Abraham died, Ya'qub decided to move to the house of the prophet Sam, the son of Noah, to explore the science of religion and worship of God.
Furthermore, in the story of the prophet ya'qub as that the prophet Ishaq often mourned and cried because he could not see his favorite son participate in the customs of the Cana'an people who left the obligation of worship and even violated the teaching of Abraham to always keep the commandments and guidance of God. Suffering from heart pain, Ishaq suffered from severe illness with deteriorating eye vision. Considering that the disease is a sign of death, Ishaq intends to bequeath the blessing of grace to his eldest son, Ishau, before death picks up. But Ishaq did not yet know that the birthright to Ishau had passed to Ya'qub. Although Ishaq called Ishau the firstborn son; but Allah was more pleased with the piety of Ya'qub, so that Allah sent an angel who helped Ya'qub obtain the right to inherit the blessing of Abraham.
Further in the story of the prophet ya'qub as When Ishau came to see his father to receive the gift of inheritance, Ishaq was surprised that he had blessed the man who was not his eldest son, Ishau. But Ishaq changed his mind when Ishau declared that he had sold the rights of the firstborn to Ya'qub, and so Ishaq realized that God was in charge of the destiny that was happening. Just as Allah promised to give the double blessing of the bounty in the world along with the gift of the Hereafter to Abraham, Ishaq obtained the blessing as the firstborn of Abraham, which was then passed down to Ya'qub, ishaq's eldest son. Having Ishau put in great effort while pleading and begging for a share of the inheritance, Ishaq's son eventually obtained some blessings.
Although he himself sold his birthright, Ishau lamented the part of the inheritance he claimed was taken by Ya'qub. Ishau intends to kill him when his father has died. When he heard this serapah, Rifqah advised Ya'qub to move for a while at the house of his uncle Laban, in the land of Haran. Ishaq and Rifqah gave up the departure of Ya'qub by acknowledging that Allah had accompanied Ya'qub and asserting his right as Ishaq's eldest son who was legally inherited the special blessing of Abraham. Ishaq also specifically advised Ya'qub not to marry a woman of Cana'an descent but to marry a woman who still had a relative relationship with the family of Abraham. When he heard that his father was displeased with the women of Cana'an, Ishau decided to go to the house of his uncle, the prophet Ismail ibn Ibrahim, to marry a daughter of Ishmael. Ishau had no intention of going to the land of Haran, knowing that Ishaq had been forbidden by Ibrahim from going there.
The story of the departure of the Prophet Jacob as to the land of Haran
In the story of the prophet Ya'kub, while leaving Palestine, Ishaq provided many possessions and livestock for Ya'qub as part of the inheritance of the firstborn. Meanwhile, Ishau was infuriated when he heard that Ya'qub was leaving while transporting abundant supplies from his parents, Ishau said: "Is it not enough for Ya'qub to have a share of the blessings of the Hereafter so as to partake of worldly riches? just as he has plotted against me to obtain my hereafter, I will repay his stratagem for obtaining his earthly share!" Ishau arranged a scheme by sending Ishaq's slaves to go and deliver a message to Ya'qub.
When the mob overtook Ya'qub, they said: "Our master, Ishaq, has sent a message to his son, Ya'qub, in order to give back the cargo of supplies to Ishau through us so that Ishau does not grieve or so that Ishau does not set out to hunt Ya'qub to the land of Haran." On the other hand, Ya'qub had been grateful to receive the blessing of God delivered through his parents; which is enough to be a guarantee to live in the world and in the afterlife.Ya'qub is willing to give all these supplies to Ishau so that then he must walk alone without transporting any supplies when he gets home his uncle, besides the protection of Allah, was with Ya'qub wherever he was.
In the story of the prophet ya'kub the next while in the midst of this journey, Ya'qub had a prophetic dream in which God promised that later the descendants of Jacob would fill the earth greatly if he remained faithful to the commandments of God. Then Ya'qub set up a memorial there, vowing to Allah that he would make a special offering if he were allowed to return to his land safe.
Life in Haran
In the story of the prophet Ya'qub also inseparable from the land of Haran, When he arrived in the land of Haran, Ya'qub saw Rahil, the daughter of his uncle, who was, which immediately makes Ya'qub captivated and wants to make the woman as a wife. Laban, Ya'qub's uncle, gives the condition that Ya'qub must first work for seven years to get Rahil. When Laban realized that his land was in abundance because of the presence of the God-blessed Ya'qub, Laban set up various ruses to prevent Ya'qub from returning to his father's house.
Years later, Ya'qub had abundant wealth in the land of Haran because he kept the commandments of God wherever he was and he did not follow the customs of the people of the land around him. During his lifetime in this land, Ya'qub had twelve children with his four wives. The names of the eleven sons of Ya'qub are Rubin, Simeon, Lawwy, Yahuda, Zebulaon, Isachar, Dann, Jad, Asher, Naftali and Joseph along with a daughter named Dinah. When Allah said to return to his father's house, Ya'qub became a wealthy tycoon with many children, many livestock, many slaves and an abundant cargo of property when he left Haran, although he was alone without carrying a load of supplies when he first arrived in the land of Haran.
In the story of the prophet ya'kub as on the way home, Ya'qub had to fight against an angel who intended to block him back to Palestine, but with the permission of Allah, Ya'qub managed to win against the angel even though Ya'qub received a blow on his groin. Since then Ya'qub has forbidden himself to eat any kind of animal groin as a form of warning of this incident, this prohibition was also applied by the sons of Ya'qub. When he heard that he was going to confront Ishau and his mob, Ya'qub pleaded with Allah to fulfill the promise of returning home safe in Palestine. But Ya'qub was surprised to find Ishau terrified of his presence, for Allah has sent hundreds of angels to arrest and threatened to kill the whole family of Ishau if he dared to do evil to Ya'qub and all his possessions.
The Covenant and Punishment of Ya'qub alaihissalam
The story of the prophet Ya'kub goes on to say that Ya'qub set up camp in the midst of the Cana'an tribe when he arrived in Palestine. Ya'qub forgot about his covenant pledge to make a special offering to God as a form of gratitude because all this time God has given salvation to him and has protected himself against all kinds of dangers. For this attitude, God brought some punishment to the house of Ya'qub. Dinah, the daughter of Ya'qub, was raped by a prince from the Cana'an tribe. This infuriated both Dinah's brothers, Simeon and Lawwy. Simeon regarded this incident as blasphemy and desecration of the good name of the descendants of Israel. Meanwhile Lawwy considered that this incident damaged Ibrahim's agreement with his descendants to remain blessed, namely the prohibition not to have family relations with the descendants of the cursed Cana'an.
When Simeon was filled with vengeance, he intended to slaughter all the men of the Canaanite tribe who looked down upon the descendants of Ya'qub, because the people had allowed and allowed immoral acts to occur in their midst. Lawwy intended to kill them as a warning so that none of the descendants of Ya'qub would be persuaded to marry the disgraced descendants of Cana'an, in the hope that no descendant of Israel will ever share in misfortune or misery with the descendants of Cana'an; that is, the nation that allows sin to take place among them because it ignores the commandments of God. The two men set out with swords and mercilessly killed the entire Cana'an tribe in the city, as the tribe did not resist the sin of defilement against Dinah.
Then the story of the prophet Jacob as that When Simeon and Lawwy came home, Ya'qub scolded his two sons who acted rashly without first asking for consideration from the father. Nevertheless, Simeon defended himself by answering that he could not allow the savage treatment of the Cana'an tribe to defile their sister; and hoping that it would be a warning to anyone who would insist on inflicting evil upon the house of Israel, that person and who approved of that evil would face the wrath of God through his hands, meanwhile Lawwy felt guilty because he did not respect his father's position; then Lawwy decided to persevere in worship and repentance to erase this sin. From then on Lawwy was no longer familiar with Simeon.
As a result of the violence of Simeon and Lawwy, residents living in Palestine were terrified to get along with the Ya'qub family, the inhabitants of Cana'an consider that the Ya'qub family no longer applies to both foreigners and residents of the surrounding land. The inhabitants of Cana'an were about to wage a war against them for revenge, but the kings of Cana'an did not continue this because they realized that God was always with the house of Ya'qub; so that God will not let anyone who does evil to the family get away with it. After this incident, Ya'qub realized his mistake with God so he hurried to keep the promise to make a special offering for God, right where he had previously pledged to Allah when he went to the land of Haran. After fulfilling his pledge to Allah, Ya'qub invited his entire family to move to the house of Ishaq.
The story of the prophet Ya'qub and his sons
On the way to Ishaq's house, Ya'qub gets word that Rahil gave birth to her thirteenth child, a boy named Bunyamin. Obtaining two sons from Rahil made Ya'qub feel bound to Rahil, so that Rahil's sons Joseph and Bunyamin were privileged above the other sons of Ya'qub. As the prophet of choice; Ya'qub was blessed with a special Science from God; so Ya'qub was very concerned with Joseph's salvation because there was a prophecy that Joseph would be the omen that would save the life of all the Children of Israel in the face of all tribulation. Joseph also had a prophetic dream that meant that all his brothers and their parents would bow down before him, even Joseph understood the meaning of this dream to be a sign of his own privilege compared to the other sons of Ya'qub. This brought joy to Jacob that Joseph had inherited the prophetic talents of Abraham and Ishaq, though there was also concern for Ya'qub when Joseph's brothers heard the news of this dream, this caused them to grow jealous and their hatred threatened Joseph's safety. Ya'qub forbade Joseph from telling these dreams to his brothers, but Joseph told them this dream which then sparked hatred in his brothers.
In the story of the prophet ya'qub as is mentioned for the preferential treatment of their two brothers only, namely Joseph and Bunyamin, so the ten sons of Ya'qub suspected that their father was only about to give the blessing of inheritance to the sons of Rahil, Ya'qub's favorite wife. Yahuda and his nine brothers arranged for Joseph not to be part of the inheritance. They learned of Simeon and Lawwy's reckless actions, so Yahuda asked his father for permission to travel with Joseph. Although initially rejecting the proposal of his sons for fear of being attacked, eventually Ya'qub was willing to release Joseph with the promise that they should bring Joseph home safe.
Ya'qub was very disappointed when he learned that they had come home without Joseph, and he heard that they had only found Joseph's clothes covered in blood after being left alone. Knowing that there was something strange about this explanation, Ya'qub understood that his ten sons were trying to separate themselves from his beloved son, so that they could not really be trusted by him. Ya'qub wept for this because he felt no longer respected by his sons. Moreover, Joseph's figure for Ya'qub was a sign of help and a sign of salvation for his descendants; thus Joseph's loss or death was a sign that the end of all his descendants would be imminent. Years later, Ya'qub's premonition approaches the truth when a prolonged bad season stops them from cultivating in Palestine, leaving the entire Ya'qub family starved.
The story of Ya'kub as continues, When a long famine occurred, the ten sons of Ya'qub tried to take Bunyamin to Egypt but Ya'qub rejected this, although he was finally forced to allow this after a severe famine befell all their family members. Despite the pain of heart, Jacob still had faith in God that Joseph would return to him. When Ya'qub's sons returned home from a trip to buy food in Egypt, Ya'qub was astonished to feel Joseph nearby. This was due to Joseph's clothes being brought from Egypt so that they were washed over his face, so that Ya'qub's vision improved. They also brought the glad tidings that Joseph was a commander of Egypt who ruled over all policies and regulations in the land of Egypt. Joseph invited the whole family of Jacob to move to Egypt during the famine. The meeting of Ya'qub with Joseph, his favorite son, was very happy because it has been proven that Joseph was a sign of help and a sign of salvation for Ya'qub and his entire family.
The story of the Hijrah to Egypt and the inheritance of blessings
During his stay in Egypt, Ya'qub nurtured and taught the knowledge he had acquired from his ancestors to Joseph's two sons. Ya'qub felt close to the two of them so thought of his two grandchildren as his own children. Before Death came, Jacob blessed Joseph's two sons as well as his own. Then the twelve sons of Israel were gathered together so that they might be part of the gift of the inheritance from God. Before giving the blessings of grace, Ya'qub first wanted to know the faith of his sons by asking for a testimony about which they would worship after his death. Ya'qub was relieved when he heard that all his sons were vowing to continue to serve God; so that each of his sons proved worthy as his heirs who received special blessings from the side of God.
Further in the story of the prophet Ya'qub as that the first Son of Ya'qub, Rubin, received some praise and harsh rebuke, for his conduct did not inherit the piety and personality of Ya'qub, and his, rubin was not worthy to be called the firstborn of Israel. Simeon and Lawwy had a common share of Ya'qub due to the massacre of one of the Cana'an tribes who were very vulnerable to Ya'qub and had made the name of Israel respected and feared by other nations. Ya'qub warned that the combined forces of the two could inflict great destruction on his enemies, because of the character of Simeon who was willing to desperately protect the good name of the Children of Israel while Lawwy in his character did not know mercy to kill anyone who was desperate to commit a heinous sin against God. From the strong disposition of the two of them, Ya'qub knew who had planned the plot to kill Joseph. Moreover, Simeon hates Joseph while Lawwy is worried that his father will cheat on him.
Finding his three brothers strongly rebuked, Yahuda feared that he would get a similar share because he felt guilty for leading a plot to separate Joseph. But Ya'qub boasts that Yahuda has the wisdom to decide things, just as Ya'qub knows that Yahuda is the one who managed to avoid the sin of murder against Joseph. Yahuda was shown to have a fear of the punishment of God; so Yahuda managed to resuscitate his nine brothers that Joseph was a son of Jacob also who was still a brother to them; thus the ten sons of Jacob agreed not to kill him.
In the story of the prophet Ya'qub as that the other six sons of Ya'qub received blessings and flattery from God through Ya'qub, for from the beginning they did not make any wicked schemes against Joseph and only hoped for the good of God to have a special part of the blessing; Ya'qub said a blessing about what would happen to them and their descendants with certain symbols. When it was his turn to bless Joseph's part, Jacob was very grateful to God because he was still allowed to see Joseph and the descendants of Joseph, who were given by God to save the continuation of the Children of Israel in the face of various difficulties. Ya'qub gave a great praise to Joseph, for the blessing of Abraham's greatest heir, Ishaq, and himself were united to Joseph, the firstborn of Israel. Bunyamin also obtained a blessing from his father relating to the future of his descendants. Before he died, Ya'qub advised that he be buried in the private cemetery of the Ibrahim family in Palestine.
