The Condition of the People ‘Ad When Prophet Hud alaihissalam Was Sent
The ‘Aad people are the people who inhabit the area in the form of hills – dunes or al – Ahqaf located around the State of Oman and Yemen today, or rather reside in the desert area Rub’al Khali. The ‘Aad or ‘Ad people themselves are one of the oldest tribes or people on earth after the tribe of Prophet Noah alaihissalam.
The people of ‘Ad were awarded by Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala with a stout physical posture and also very strong. The advantages of this strong and dashing physical posture even make the ‘Ad people able to sculpt a mountain that no one yet can build a city in such a way good in other countries on the face of the earth.
Related to the advantages of the ‘Ad people in their ability to sculpt this mountain is told by Allah in the Quran Surah Al Fajr verses 7 to 8 below.
“(Yaitu) residents of Iram (the capital city where the people of ‘Aad live) who have high buildings–That has never been built (a city) like that, in other countries,”
It turns out that the ability of ‘Ad residents to sculpt mountains and make large buildings actually makes them more proud and not grateful to God.
The people of ‘Ad were also endowed by God with a lot of livestock, property to agricultural civilization that is very fertile and superior let alone an abundance of fresh water sources for them.
Related to the attitude of the ‘Ad people who boast of themselves and behave luxuriously – this luxury is described in the Quran Surah Asy – Syuara verses 128 to 129 following, in the Quran,
“Did you erect on every high ground of buildings to play around (luxury) –And you made forts with the intention that you will remain (in the world)?”
The Story of the Prophet Hud alaihissalam Berdakwah to His People
Just like the people of the Prophet Noah alaihissalam, the people of ‘Ad also do not know Allah as the only – God that deserves to be worshipped. In the end, the people of ‘Ad actually created a variety of large-sized statues that they then worship as a god. Lord – god of idols made by the most famous ‘Ad people are Alhattar and Shamud.
The people of ‘Ad were the first people to commit injustice in the form of associating Allah with the worship of statues after the great flood during the time of Noah alaihissalam. There are many parables and reproofs that God has told these dissidents that they should remember what happened to the people before them, the people of Noah.
In the Qur'an Surah Al A’raaf verse 69 is said so that the people of ‘Ad immediately realize their error by remembering the blessings of Allah to them and learning from the previous people, namely the people of Noah alaihissalam.
“And remember by you when Allah made you a substitute (who is in power) after the cessation of Noah, and Allah has exceeded your strength and stature (than the people of Noah). Then remember the blessings of Allah so that you may have good luck.”
The story of the Prophet Hud alaihissalam is colored by his struggle to advise and preach his rebellious people. His people also enjoy doing various activities of sin and obedience and doing damage on the earth.
Because of the persistence of preaching carried out by the Prophet Hud to the people of ‘Ad, these people finally asked – questions related to the Prophet Hud alaihissalam who is actually a native of their own people.
They asked, “Who are you really, Hud, so say such words?”. The answer of the Prophet Hud alaihissalam to their question was described in the Surah of Ash-Vote 125-126.
“Verily I am a trustworthy apostle to you—Then fear Allah and obey me.”
However, like most of the words of the disobedient people were arrogant to the warnings of the Prophet and the Apostles sent in the middle of their –, the ‘Ad denied the words of the Prophet Hud with pride and harshness. They even accuse the Prophet Hud alaihissalam as someone who is not reasonable anymore to lie.
The people of ‘Ad do not repent for their mistakes. Precisely these people are increasingly hard day of defiance. The story of the Prophet Hud alaihissalam who answered the accusations of his people is told in the Quran Surah Al – A’raaf verses 66 to 68.
“Verily We look upon you in a state of insensitivity and indeed we consider you to be among those who lie.”
“Our people! There is no lack of sense to me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the Worlds.– I convey the messages of my Lord to you and I am only a trusted counsel to you.”
In fact, the people of ‘Ad to accuse the Prophet Hud alaihissalam has been hit by a crazy disease that comes from their offerings. It is described in the Quran Surah Huud verses 53 to 54.
“Vee Hud! You have not brought us a clear proof, and we will not forsake our gods because of your words, and we will never trust you–We do not say but rather that some of our worship has inflicted a madness upon you.”.
The Story of Prophet Hud alaihissalam: The Destruction of the People ‘Ad
Because it has hardened the hearts of the people of ‘Ad to become like a rock, the Prophet Hud also finally said that he had departed from all their acts of evil.
The prophet Hud alaihissalam has given all the revelations given from Allah to his people. So the indifference of his people to the call of the Prophet Hud is not his responsibility anymore.
Allah then decreased the punishment to the people of ‘Ad in the form of a very hot air to make their plants die, rivers and wells that turned dry and rain that never came down.
Then Allah sent to them a great black cloud until the rebellious ‘ad came out of his house rejoicing because he thought a rain cloud was coming.
Prophet Hud also answered the cry of the joy of his people with a warning, “It is not a cloud of grace, but a cloud that brings a semblance of wind that will kill you all, a wind filled with torment as painful as it is.”
From the cloud came a powerful wind to ravage – porandakan the people of ‘Ad and what is around it. This fierce wind blows up to 7 nights and 8 days without stopping which destroys the people of ‘Ad. While the Prophet Hud and his followers were in the house and not hit by the punishment of the conquest wind.
Almost the same as the story of – the story of the Prophet and other Apostles, Prophet Hud experienced an unusually strong opposition from his own people over the preaching he conveyed.
Even so, from the story of the Prophet Hud alaihissalam we can take important lessons related to patience and piety to continue preaching in the way of Allah despite experiencing great opposition from humans.
