The Reply of Allah SWT to the Prophets of Suaeb As Durhaka

The Prophet Shu'aib understood that his people had closed their hearts. He prayed to Allah that the punishment should be handed down to the Madyans. God granted the prayer of Shuaib and inflicted the torment through several stages.

The Madyans were initially given the torment of God through hot air that burned the skin and made thirst. At that time, trees and buildings were not enough for their shelter. However, God gave a dark cloud to the Madyan. The Madyans came to the cloud to shelter so that they crowded under the cloud. Do not reduce the amount and scale when you sell something that must be weighed against others. Verily, I see that there is good that is expected of you to give thanks and obey Allah and to give others their rights perfectly. I fear that if you do not thank God for the grace and disobey His commandments, the torment of the day that you will not be able to avoid will befall you. For the torment of that day covers all those who are tormented, and there is no way out to save themselves. (1) This verse and the next paragraph explain that reducing the dose and the scale is an act of crime that the perpetrator must be dealt with legally. With a scornful and dismissive tone they said, "Wahai Shu'aib, is it you who tell you that we leave behind the statues that our ancestors worshiped or that we do not use the treasures as we please according to merit from our point of view? Shu'aib said, "O my people, what do you think if I have concrete evidence and faith from my Lord and I am given good sustenance as a gift from Him, should I hide something that I should tell you, such as the commandment to abandon idolatry, to keep the scales and measure, the command to leave to do mischief on earth? I don't want to do what I'm forbidden. With advice, orders and prohibitions, I only want improvement according to my strength, effort and ability. And I will not find the truth except with His help and support. Only to Him do I rely. And it is only to Him that I return. (88)

They said, "O Lord Shuaib, we do not understand most of what you say. We affirm to you that in our view, your being in our midst is very weak, incapable of self-defense and convincing, if we will hurt you. If not because we wanted to take the heart of your family who are in our religion, of course we have killed you by stoning. Shu'aib replied, "O my people, do you think that my family is more worthy of your good relationship than Allah, so that you always remember and your God forgets. Do you care for me well while your God treats me like something thrown away? Verily, my Lord is All-Knowing of what you do. None of your deeds is hidden from His knowledge. When Our command to torture and destroy them came, We saved Shuaib and his faithful followers from torment and destruction. Their salvation is due to our love for them. The heathen inhabitants of Madyan were destroyed by a loud noise that shook and destroyed. They then died lying in their dwellings face down, not moving in the slightest (1). However, they continue to insist on denying Shu'ayb. Then Allah sent down to them a very hot weather, so that they would run without any shade. As they were gathered in the shade of a cloud, Allah sent down to them lumps of fire. They perished on that terrible day. (189)

We have also sent to the people of Madyan their brother, Shu'ayb. He said, "Worship only to Allah. There is no god but Him. It is better if you truly believe in Allah and the truth. (85) Do not sit in every way of truth, guidance and righteousness, scaring those who will walk that way. That way you mean to have prevented truth seekers from achieving their goals. They are ahl al-Main (those who have true faith) who believe in Allah. While you want a crooked path. Remember when your numbers are few, then Allah has made your numbers many thanks to your consistency in seeking descendants and possessions. Learn from the end of those before you who are destructive. (86)

We have also sent to the people of Madyan their brother, Shu'ayb. He said, "Worship only to Allah. There is no god but Him. Have come to you the proofs that explain the truth from God as reinforcement of the treatise I carry. The messages of your Lord to always make improvements among each other and to always be just have also come. So perfect the measure and scales in your buying and selling. Do not make damage on the face of this good earth by damaging plants or others, as well as severing the ventilation rope. (86) If any group of you believe in the truth that I have brought and there is another group that does not believe, wait until God establishes His law between the two groups. He is the best judge. (87) Such was the preaching of Shu'ayb to his people. But his people were rampant in error. Their proud and unaccepting dignitaries faced Shu'ayb saying, "We will certainly bring you out with you and those who believe with you from our city, and we will drive you out. We will not save you from this torment unless you follow our religion which you have forsaken." Then Shu'ayb replied, "Are we going to return to your religion when we do not like it because it is broken? There's no way that's gonna happen." (88) Shu'ayb strongly rejects their desire to return to their original religion. He said, "if we return to your religion after Allah has guided us the right way, then we are lying to Allah. It is inappropriate for us to make a choice to return to your religion unless Allah wills it. But it can't be that it happened. For He is our Lord, All-Knowing. It is to Him that we give up all our affairs by performing all our duties. O our Lord, separate us and our people from the truth that You did before to separate between those who justify and repair and those who do evil and mischief." (89) Until here, the Shu'aib were desperate to subdue Shu'ayb and his followers. They remain firm in their religion. They feel anxious that the followers of Shu'ayb will see more and more of his strength and determination in preaching. That is why their unbelieving rulers turned to their followers, threatening them by saying, "For the sake of the Lord, if you submit to Shu'ayb by accepting his invitation, you have harmed your honor and wealth by following the wrong religion, which your ancestors have never followed." (90)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In Quran Surat Al A’Raaf 93,

When Shu'ayb saw the destruction that had befallen them, he turned away from them and said, "I have delivered to you the messages of the Lord that can lead to good if you do. And I have tried hard to give you counsel that can save you from the punishment of God. How will I be saddened to see the suffering of the disbelievers? That's not gonna happen. For I have tried hard to guide them and to save them, but they have chosen destruction. (93)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Surat Hud:84,

Verily We have sent unto the people of Madhyan (1) their brother, Shu'aib. He said to them, "O my people, worship only Allah. There is no god but Him. According to Islam the punishment is ta'zir (a sanction whose determination is set by the ruling party). In conventional law, the action is known as the crime of counterfeiting scales or measures that also have legal sanctions. It is forbidden by the Qur'an to protect property. The country of Madyan lies between the north of Hijaz and the south of Sham. There, there are shady trees called Aykah. Allah has sent a cruel punishment because the people of the land disobeyed Him. (84)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Surat Hud 86-87,

The profit that is left to you in the form of the lawful treasure that Allah has given you is far better than the illicit wealth that you have accumulated, if you believe in Allah and stay away from His prohibitions. So, do some introspection with yourself. Make God your Supervisor. I am not the watchdog that counts and convicts your deeds." (86) With a scornful and dismissive tone they said, "Wahai Shu'aib, is it you who tell you that we leave behind the statues that our ancestors worshiped or that we do not use the treasures as we please according to merit from our point of view? Indeed it is a very foolish and wrong act, and does not fit your personality as we know it to be clever and wise in opinion. You've been known as a very resourceful person." (87)

The History of the Prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Surat Hud 89-90,

O my people, let not the strife between me and you make you stubborn and ungodly, which causes you to suffer the torment of the people of Noah, or of Hud, or the Shalih. Time, place, and destruction of the Luth, are not far from you. So take a lesson from it all so that you will not be afflicted with a punishment like them. (89) Ask God to forgive all your sins. Then repent to God with remorse and ask forgiveness every time you sin. Verily, my Lord is Most Merciful, Most Loving, and always forgives and loves His repentant servants. (90)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As According to Qur`an Surat Hud 92-93,

Shu'aib replied, "O my people, do you think that my family is more worthy of your good relationship than Allah, so that you always remember and your God forgets. Do you care for me well while your God treats me like something thrown away? Verily, my Lord is All-Knowing of what you do. None of your deeds is hidden from His knowledge. He'll take that into account even if you forget it. (92) O my people, do what you are capable and able to do. Even if you do not hear my advice, I will still do what is opposite to what you do. You will know which of us will be subjected to the humiliating torment, and which of us will lie; I remind you of the torment, or are you threatening to expel me from this country? Wait for what will happen. I'm waiting with you guys too." (93)

Letter of Asy Shu'araa':176-184,

This is the story of Shu'ayb and the people of Aykah, the inhabitants of a land filled with shady trees near the city of Madyan. To the people of Aykah, God sent Shu'ayb who was also sent to Madyan. But they denied the apostle's call. Thus, they - because of the similarity of the preachings of all the apostles - have disavowed all the treatises.(176) Remind your people, O Muhammad, when Shu'ayb said to the people of Aykah, "Are you not afraid of Allah and have faith in Him?" They immediately denied it. (177) "I have been sent by the Lord of the Worlds to you to convey guidance and truth. And I am trusted to present His treatise to you. (178) Beware of the punishment of Allah. Obey me by keeping the commandments of God and purifying yourself of sin. (179) I do not expect anything in return from you. My reward will be obtained in full - according to my works - from the Lord of the universe." (180) The inhabitants of Aykah were also ordered by Shu'ayb to give the scales in full, because in them there was a habit of giving scales that were unfair and detrimental to others. (181) Shu'ayb continued, "And weigh something with a perfect scale, so that people can take their rights justly and correctly. (182) Do not diminish that which is due to others, nor do you cause harm to the earth by killing, daydreaming, committing crimes and following low passions. (183) And beware of the chastisement of God, the Lord who has created you and the strong and proud people before you." (184)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Surat Al ‘Ankabuut:36.

Allah has sent an apostle to the people of Madyan, the Prophet Shu'ayb. He calls them to fear Allah and worship Allah, fear the end of the day and do what Allah rewards them as they expect, and forbids them from perpetuating the destruction of the earth. (36)

The prophet Shu'aib's trial:

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Surat Al A’Raaf:87-90,

If there is a group of you who believe in the truth that I bring and there is another group that does not believe, then wait until Allah sets His law between the two groups.

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur` Letter Hud:87-88

With a scornful and dismissive tone they said, "Wahai Shu'aib, is it you who tell you that we leave behind the statues that our ancestors worshiped or that we do not use the treasures as we please according to merit from our point of view? Indeed it is a very foolish and wrong act, and does not fit your personality as we know it to be clever and wise in opinion. You've been known as a very resourceful person." (87) Shu'aib said, "O my people, what do you think if I have concrete evidence and faith from my Lord and I am given good sustenance as a gift from Him, should I hide something that I should tell you, such as the commandment to abandon idolatry, to keep the scales and measure, the command to leave to do mischief on earth? I don't want to do what I'm forbidden. With advice, orders and prohibitions, I only want improvement according to my strength, effort and ability. And I will not find the truth except with His help and support. Only to Him do I rely. And it is only to Him that I return. (88)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Surat Hud 91,

They said, "O Lord Shuaib, we do not understand most of what you say. We affirm to you that in our view, your being in our midst is very weak, incapable of self-defense and convincing, if we will hurt you. If not because we wanted to take the heart of your family who are in our religion, of course we have killed you by stoning. You are not an authoritative person so we must glorify and protect you from sharpening. Our attitude towards your family is what keeps us from killing you." (91)

The story of the prophet Shuaib as according to the Qur`an Letter of Asy Shu'araa':176,

This is the story of Shu'ayb and the people of Aykah, the inhabitants of a land filled with shady trees near the city of Madyan. To the people of Aykah, God sent Shu'ayb who was also sent to Madyan. But they denied the apostle's call. Thus, they - because of the similarity of the preachings of all the apostles - have disavowed all the treatises.(176)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Letter Asy Shu'araa'185-188,

They said, "You are only one who is affected by magic power, so his common sense is lost.(185) After all, you are ordinary men like us. Why do you feel more special than us to deliver the treatise? We believe you are nothing but one big liar. (186) If you are really carrying a treatise, why not drop it upon us a form of doom from heaven?" Thus, this request implies how strong their denial is. (187) Shu'ayb said, "My Lord is Knowing of your obedience, and you deserve punishment. He will lay the punishment upon you at the appointed time." This speech reflects the surrender of Shu'ayb to Allah. The purpose is nothing but to warn them (188)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Letter of Shaad: 12-13,

Before them were the Nuhites, the 'Ad, the Pharaohs who had magnificent and strong buildings like mountains, as well as Thamud, the tribe of the Prophet Luth and the house of Shu'aib, the owners of shady trees, they all denied the apostles. They conspired against their apostles like your people. (12–13)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Letter of Qaaf: 12-14.

Before them, there were many people who denied the apostles, such as the people of Noah, the people of Rass, the Thamud, the people of 'Ad, Pharaoh, the people of Luth, the people of Aykah, and the people of Tubba'. They all denied the apostles sent to them. They are entitled to the punishment of destruction that I have promised them. (12–14)

Azab the prophet Shu'aib alaihissalam: Surat Al A’Raaf:91-92,

The punishment of God is worth them. And Allah struck them with an earthquake that caused their hearts to be broken. Then they died, lying in the houses with faces falling. (91) This is the punishment of Allah on those who deny Shu'ayb, threaten to drive him out of their city and reject his invitation. They all perish. The city was destroyed like it had never been inhabited by people who belied Shu'ayb and thought that people who followed him would lose money. They are the losers because they lose their happiness in the world and the hereafter. (92)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Surat At Taubah: 70,

Do the hypocrites and the disbelievers not learn from the situation of those before them, namely the Nuhites, 'Ad, Thamud, Ibrahem, Shu'aib and the Luchs. They were sent to them by the apostles of Allah with clear proofs from Allah, and they denied and denied them. Each one was tormented by God for sin, and all were destroyed. Verily Allah does not persecute them with all torment, but they wrong themselves with their disbelief and defiance to Allah and their worthiness for all torment. They are the ones who are actually self-mutilizing. (70)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Surat Hud:94-95,

When Our command to torture and destroy them came, We saved Shuaib and his faithful followers from torment and destruction. Their salvation is due to our love for them. The heathen inhabitants of Madyan were destroyed by a loud noise that shook and destroyed. They then died lying in their dwellings face down, not moving in the slightest (1). (1) See the footnotes of interpretation of verses 84 and 85 of this letter. (94) Their lives were finished and their tracks were lost. It was as if they had never lived in the country. Their beginnings imply something that must be considered and learned by every reasonable person. Remember, the people of Madhyan were destroyed and kept away from the mercy of Allah like their predecessor, the Thamud. (95)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Surat Al Hijr:79,

And We sent down Our wrath upon them. And their remains are clearly visible in the street, allowing believers to take lessons when passing in front of their homes. (79)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Letter of Asy Shu'araa':189,

However, they continue to insist on denying Shu'ayb. Then Allah sent down to them a very hot weather, so that they would run without any shade. As they were gathered in the shade of a cloud, Allah sent down to them lumps of fire. They perished on that terrible day. (189)

The story of the prophet Shuaib As In the Qur`an Surat Al ‘Ankabuut:37.

Then they belied and disobeyed him. And Allah destroyed them with a very strong earthquake, which brought down their houses and fell on them, so that they died. (37)
