In an instant, the normally quiet house turned into a packed full. Crowd happens here and there. The police line was laid out in front of the main door, as if to declare to everyone that in this house, one life had just been floated in such a tragic way.
Fabian was sitting languidly in the back of the ambulance as medics treated wounds on his hands. He himself did not even remember where those wounds came from. Because what he now remembers is the incident at dawn that finally claimed the life of the mother.
It was probably only 03:45, when she woke up from her sleep feeling her throat was so dry. Against all the laziness, he came out of the room, walking down the stairs to the kitchen to quench his thirst.
As usual, he did not bother to turn on the lights, because after all he would just go take a drink for a while and go straight back to the room to continue sleeping.
But, as soon as she returned from the kitchen and was about to climb into her room, she instead found her mother talking to someone. His mother's tall body made it difficult for Fabian to recognize who his mother was facing. So he decided to walk over for the sake of checking.
Just three times his legs swung, he was made shocked as a deafening sound of gunfire echoed. Shortly after, his mother collapsed to the floor and blood quickly seeped onto the white floor.
Fabian couldn't think. His head felt empty as he found his mother moaning in pain, while the person standing in front of him just silently did nothing. He ran to his mother, resting beside her weak body.
His lips were tightly locked, unable to even demand an explanation to Sera who brandished the revolver's muzzle right into his head. He had resigned himself if the hot bullet from inside the revolver shot through his head when Sera actually opened fire. But all that did not happen because Jeffrey, out of nowhere, suddenly hit the woman's body to make a bullet that should have hit her was lodged into the wall.
What happened after that really felt fast. Starting from when he tried to call an ambulance until Raya's head drooped weakly on his lap, Fabian could no longer think clearly. He even thought it was a dream, because it was too strange to have his mother shot dead, even though a few hours earlier the woman had just delivered a glass of milk for him to drink before going to bed. The woman even promised that they would move abroad as soon as possible, starting a life back just the two of them.
Until this second, Fabian still did not understand the reason Sera came to their house early in the morning, and ended up shooting her mother to death. He also still does not understand why Sera called him an illegitimate child, and thinks that Jeffrey came to protect himself instead of saving the woman from a more severe punishment.
Blank. Fabian really did not have any preconceived notions of the incident.
"It's over."
The voice of the female medics who treated his wound made Fabian reverie wither. He raised his head for a while, only to thank him in a soft voice, then let the medic leave him with a bandaged palm.
After the departure of the medics, Jeffrey appeared from a distance. The man seemed to be dragging his steps heavily. It's only natural then, Fabian thought. Because the man just put his own wife in jail. Not long after his mother breathed her last breath, a unit of police car came and immediately snatched Sera. Because apparently, Jeffrey had prepared everything. He and Jeffrey should have gone to the police station to be questioned as witnesses. But for one reason or another, they were both allowed to stay while Sera was already in the first place.
Fabian couldn't help but be shocked when Jeffrey suddenly dropped himself in front of him. The man gathered, bowing his head deeply with a body that seemed to tremble violently.
"I don't know what I'm sorry for, so I can't take it." Fabian lowered his legs one by one. Then, ignoring the wound on his bandaged left hand, Fabian helped Jeffrey get up. "Please explain more, so that I can know whether sorry is appropriate for me to give or not."
...****************...
Throughout listening to Jeffrey's explanation, Fabian almost always held his breath. It was the only way that the tightness he felt was not creeping everywhere, as well as an attempt to keep him from throwing a fist at Jeffrey's face who was now sobbing in front of him.
Jeffrey is the real father. Fabian repeated that sentence as much as he could. But no matter how much he did, the reality that the man presented him was simply unacceptable to him.
Accidentally because of drunkenness? That was the most ridiculous reason he had ever heard in his entire life. Because, is not the man's common sense only lost for a moment, when he was drunk? Next how? Didn't that sanity come right after the effects of his alcohol disappeared? But why was the madness carried on and on, until it had to sacrifice itself and the Kingdom?
Oh, Fabian never put himself in the victim position because it was sad. But after hearing everything, he no longer knew which position to put himself in.
In the past, he only thought that his mother and father were lovers who fell in love, then his father left his mother to marry another woman, when there is he who has grown in the belly of his mother. She thought that seeing her face would only remind her of the man who betrayed her love, which is why Raya never gave a mother's affection to her.
But the truth ... Not that he won't, but he can't.
"It's all my fault, Bi. I'm sorry." Jeffrey again apologized.
"But, Om. .. sorry it won't make my Mama alive again." Because it's true. Millions of times the man apologized though, it would be meaningless because he had already lost the Kingdom. "I only have Mama in this world, and Om's perfect wife has made me a kara now."
Fabian took a deep breath, then he got up from his position. "Om know? I just started to receive the love I had dreamed of from my mother. But all of that just goes away because of Om's wife's greed, as well as Om's inability to be the head of the family."
"I used to be jealous because Baskara at least still had a mother who loved him wholeheartedly, when his father went to escape. But now, I feel sorry for him. Because her life turned out to be a lot messier than I had. His mother is a demon, and his father is just a loser who doesn't dare take responsibility for what he's done."
After saying that, Fabian passed. He stepped over to his own car, taking it away from the crowded yard. He was about to go to the hospital, pick up the body of his mother who was being cleaned and then he buried it properly.
