There was a king of the jinn (asura) named Patanam. He has 3 very powerful sons. They were named Nandini, Cingkarabala, and Balaupata. The three genie brothers were very arrogant, but among those who were the most powerful, powerful, cunning, and resourceful was Nandi.
The 3 brothers were famous to the world of humans and the world of gods. There was no 1 human and god in Indraloka who was able to face their power.
One day, the 3 asuras attacked Indraloka. The gods have fought as best they can. But all the gods who were there could be easily defeated.
The god Indra then heads to Kailash (the mountain where Lord Shiva lives). He begged Shiva for help to defeat the 3 asuras. Shiva became angry when he heard that many gods were wounded because of the actions of the asuras.

Shiva finally reached Indraloka and prepared to face the 3 asuras. The first time forward was Cingkarabala and Balaupata. The two fought very hard to defeat Shiva. But Shiva then prepared to throw the trident at the twin.
Nandini was very angry when he learned that his 2 brothers had lost and were no creatures to Shiva. Even his brother had promised to serve Shiva well.
Nandi then attacked Shiva valiantly. Nandi's power cannot be underestimated. Nandi is famous for being very cunning several times Shiva was almost defeated by that asura. But Shiva can escape Nandi's deadly attack. Nandi has been granted the grace of Lord Brahma, so he will only die by the power of Rudrapati.
Rudrapati is an avatar of Lord Shiva. Nandi did not know that Shiva could become Rudrapati. A fierce fight made Nandi submit and could be defeated by Shiva by being trampled on his neck. When Shiva could step on his neck, he begged Shiva for forgiveness. Hearing the enemy beg for Shiva's forgiveness and then let go of his incursion. But Nandi is a very cunning asura. By the time Shiva left, Nandi had gathered his strength and plowed Shiva with his horns.
Shiva then staggered and felt pain. Shiva became angry and angry. Shiva then transforms into Rudrapati and can defeat Nandi mercilessly. Rudrapati had prepared to stab the trident at Nandi's neck. But this time Nandi actually repented and promised to do whatever Shiva commanded.
Shiva then forgives Nandi and makes Nandi his guardian. From that moment Nandi became a very obedient worshiper. While Nandi's twin sister named Cingkarabala and Balaupata was given the task to guard the door of the palace of Lord Shiva. In the tradition of reading in the Javanese period Kuna became Mahakala and Nandiswara.
