“Nice to meet you, Ocean Arkananta. You know, my life at home feels a little like hell because of you.”
The sarcastic tone was accompanied by a wide smile. Someone was sitting across the Ocean, stretching his hand on the back of the long sofa. His sitting position was very relaxed, and his face looked annoying.
“Crilliant Ocean, Mature Ocean, Perfect Ocean .... My mom is a big fan of yours, assuming you're a god. To him, I am just a piece of trash compared to you. And meet you now, I so know my mama type is a guy like a dry kanebo.” A wide smile was still imprinted on that person's face. “But I'm sure you also agree that I'm superior in this.” The man kissed the cheek of the woman to his right, a cheering following after him.
“It's nice to meet you too, Oscar Mandala. Say hello to your mom, say I agree with her. After seeing you, I came to know what real garbage is,” reply Ocean does not want to lose, his annoying grin also joined the show.
Oscar's laughter filled the room. “Come friends, Ocean. I like your style. But before that, let's determine who is more popular here.” Oscar kissed the woman on his left side. He stared around for a while, before exclaiming, “Who else would I like to kiss?”
Hands were held, with excited calls and some women pouring into Oscar's arms. The man kissed the cheeks of the women one by one, his typical-sounding laughter getting smoother.
“Okay, look at that. He looks cheap once.” A woman sitting beside Ocean frowned not liking to see Oscar and his women. “Ocean is much classier. Handsome, charismatic, and seductive. Exactly like my husband used to be.” The woman stared adoringly at Ocean, being adored by all the women who were surrounding the Ocean.
Nursery home. That's where Ocean and Oscar are, precisely in the lounge. The two men sat face to face on a long sofa that was only capped by a small square table. Around them, the grandmothers were writhing in their arms, divided into two camps, “berclass” and “cheap”.
“Hey, sweet girl in the corner. Yes ... yes, which looks like Anne Hathaway.” Oscar's gaze was directed at a grandmother who had been sitting beside the door, nodding as she pointed to herself as if making sure Oscar was talking to her. “Why alone there? Come here, let's have fun and feel the warmth of an Oscar Mandala!”
The cheers are heard again. Oscar hugged the grandmothers tighter and tighter with a face as if he were a king.
Adrift a few meters from the spot, Selena frowned amusedly at Oscar and his strange manner. “How many times have I seen Oscar, he doesn't look sane at all. Are you sure you want to continue your relationship with her, Amara?” Selena looked to the side.
Instead of being offended by Selena's remarks, feeling that her lover was insulted, Amara instead laughed a little without letting go of her gaze from Oscar. “Why? Doesn't she look very sweet?”
Selena rolled her eyes, sighing deeply. “Stupid basis. Looks like you need to check your eyes.” Selena passed while carrying the cake they just made.
Arriving at the lounge, seeing the grandmothers who were trying to feed Ocean with snacks and wriggling on her arms, Selena clucked. “Why does Grandma touch my husband like that? She's getting tarnished.”
“What do you mean your husband? All handsome men are ours together.” The grandmother who fed Ocean glared at Selena, followed by the nagging of other grandmothers.
Attacked in such a crowd, Selena felt cornered. He could not shout back because what he was facing now were old grandmothers. “Do not do that. Let's quickly let go. I have something to talk to Ocean.”
Selena tried to pull Ocean's hand. Just touching her fingers, Selena's hand had already gotten a blow from the grandmother sitting next to Ocean.
“Do not mess. You can touch it as you please all this time. Sharing it is a good thing.”
“Who said? All this time I also could not touch it as I please.” Selena advances her lower lip in response to the words of one of the grandmothers. He then looked at Ocean for a plea, only to find the man smiling without sin, saying, “You how else,” with his leisure.
“Come on, Selena. You weren't expected there. You haven't gotten a warm hug and kiss from me, have you?” Oscar slapped lightly, laughing wide as he got Selena's shot and Ocean's sharp gaze.
In the doorway of the room, Noah who was carrying a cardboard of mineral water displayed a parched face as he stared at the people in that place. “Why are the grandmothers just crowding Mr Ocean and Mr Oscar? I'm a man too. Please see me too.”
...****...
In return, Ocean placed his index finger on the lips, asking Selena to lower her voice. He walked around, making sure the grandmothers were not looking at him. Ocean takes Selena sneaking towards the back door of the nursing home, out of the place.
Paddy fields with yellowed rice became their afternoon scenery. Ocean took Selena to sit on a long bench of the parlour, enjoying the orange sky and the sun that was about to return to the contest.
“How did you get away from the grandmothers?” Selena was interested in asking when she saw Ocean exhaling a long breath after they managed to get out with “happy”.
“I said I want to go to the toilet. There I can barely even move.”
Selena let out a laugh, able to feel how depressed Ocean was. It seemed like only Oscar could survive there, perhaps even enjoying the situation while eating all the things that the grandmothers fed into his mouth.
They came to this nursing home because of Amara. The woman regularly visits the home after returning home from abroad, to provide assistance, cook, and chat with elderly people there. Feeling intrigued to see Amara's good actions, Selena offered to come along, of course by bringing Ocean— and Noah— with her.
There are no journalist cameras to capture, although it could boost Selena and Amara's names as actresses with angelic hearts. They went there purely because they wanted to help. And chatting with grandparents—though it was a bit annoying—clear fun. Selena has heard a lot of stories about their lives. Old eyes that glow when arriving at the story of youth, make Selena like an adventure with them.
“You can do it now.”
Selena's daydream is cut off by Ocean's voice. He looked up with furrowed eyebrows. “What?”
“So you're so upset, saying you can't touch me as you like, now you can do it, Selena.” Ocean smiled in a bitch.
“I told you not to tease me. I'm nervous when you say a no-no.” Selena threw away her face, hiding her cheeks that were starting to turn red.
Ocean's turn is laughing. She grabbed Selena's hand slowly, grasping it gently. “I'll do it then.” Ocean again swept his gaze on the expanse of rice fields. “While talking to the parents inside, I thought a lot about how I would spend my old age. Whether living in a nursing home, or spending my time in a small house with a stack of books.”
Selena turned her head, momentarily forgetting the heat that had ambushed her face.
“But then, I found the answer.” Ocean turned away from the expanse of rice fields, staring at Selena. "Not ‘where’, but ‘with whom’. The yellowed rice also knew they would be harvested in a moment, but perhaps they did not mind at all. I think the reason is because for a lifetime, they've spent time with other paddy fields, along with something called ‘family’."
Those words, that gaze, and the twilight sun that radiated a gentle radiance .. actually made Ocean even more dangerous. Selena nailed in place.
“If you don't mind, uh .. You know, a family that doesn't just exist we're both—”
Ocean's awkward-sounding speech was cut off as Selena exclaimed stifledly while covering part of her face with a palm.
“Why are you like that? I mean, there was a grandpa whose thinking fit me perfectly, could be a nice chatter. I was thinking of asking her to stay with us.”
Like having just been knocked into a precipitous cliff, Selena is getting shocked. His eyes blinked a few times to digest Ocean's words.
Selena's reaction made Ocean chuckle softly, casually folding his hands in front of his chest. “I'm just kidding, Selena.” In a very short time, Ocean's gaze suddenly changed, bringing many meanings that Selena had to translate well. “You dated me tonight?”
