Chapter 27 Security

Anika and Yaslan finally come home from their long honeymoon. Yaslan was sick because he could not stand the cold air there. Anika has been taking care of him patiently, despite having to sacrifice three days of their total vacation to stay inside the hotel.

"I won't go to the cold anymore" Yaslan said to himself. "But I like being cared for by my beautiful wife" he added, hugging his wife.

Anika smiled looking at her husband's slightly spoiled manner. Yaslan looked very human with his weakness.

They also began to unpack their suitcases. Anika then cleans the house and Yaslan starts cooking for their lunch. When cleaning the house that has been inhabited for ten days, Anika felt the Yaslan collection of ornamental plants slightly shifted. But he ignored it, thinking there might be a lizard-like animal shifting it.

During lunch, they chatted as usual. About their first skiing activities, about their work and studies, then about the family.

"My sister gave birth" she announced as she ate her lunch.

Anika was silent for a moment. "Congratulations" he said trying to look happy.

"My mom invited me to visit them. How about we go there next week?" bring Yaslan.

"Can." Anika only answered as necessary, then started to clean her cutlery.

While arranging the goods to take her to Yaslan's parents' house, Anika realizes that some of her underwear is missing again. He began to feel uncomfortable and immediately thought Kairi had secretly entered their home.

"Home security is absolutely guaranteed, right?" tanyanya made sure to her husband.

Yaslan nodded. "of course! If anyone comes in, the alarm will sound. Our house is also guarded 24 hours by security personnel through CCTV in front of the entrance and back door.

After paying at the cashier, they sat in the cafe for a break.

"It seems like soon I'll be coming by the moon" she replied, touching her stomach. "Let's take a look in the bathroom."

Yaslan was a little disappointed. "You're not taking the Pill anymore, are you?"

Anika nodded slightly in doubt. He lied again. There were things he didn't want to tell her, things he really wanted to forget.

Upon arrival at Yaslan's parents' house, Yaslan immediately held his new pound that was not yet a month old.

"It's suitable to be a father!" her sister Goda sees Yaslan with her baby.

Yaslan looked very happy with the baby he was carrying in his hands. Seeing that, Anika held her stomach. He feels guilty. But she still felt unworthy to be a mother.

As usual dinner at the Yaslan family felt very crowded with a large number of members. Having already visited them several times, Anika was already used to it. Finish eating Yaslan playing with both of his bangs in the backyard. Anika is happy to see him happy playing with the kids. She hopes to one day bring happiness to her husband.

"Yaslan used to help me take care of my youngest child. They're 15 years adrift. That's why he likes kids."

Anika remained silent. Maybe it's like having a real mother.

Anika was confused by the question her husband asked.

"You never told me about yourself, when I wanted to know what you were like at school, how you spent time with your family."

Yaslan was shocked to hear his wife's response.

"Did something happen?" He tried to calm his wife.

"My family's too ordinary, there's nothing to tell." Anika immediately laid herself on the bed preparing to sleep. She is not ready to tell the truth, especially to her husband who has a happy family.

Yaslan then put away his photo album and hugged his wife from behind.

"Whatever happens," said Yaslan trying to comfort his wife, "i'm always there for you. I'll protect you."

Somehow hearing that, Anika still could not calm down. Anika is not sure her husband can understand her and the state of her family. Yaslan knew nothing.

The next morning they decided to go home early. After a long time, nightmares about Anika's trauma come back to haunt her.

"Get health. Don't work too hard." said Yaslan's mother. Anika knows that even though her mother told her not to rush to have children, she must still be very expecting a child with the surname Rymer, Yaslan's son.

All day long Anika felt unwell. He did not know if this was the effect of his hormones so he became more anxious than usual, or was there something else. He thought he could overcome his trauma. Why did it start to appear again?

Anika tried to shift her mind to something else. Back home from work she got word that her husband would not come home because he had to watch the night.

When she was alone, she began to feel lonely. In his solitude, he imagined a terrible figure who wanted to rape him. Anika went straight into the room and closed the door and hid under the blanket.

His chest tightened, his breathing shortened. Stomach pains struck him and he realized he was coming by the moon.

Anika forced herself to stand towards the toilet, trying to keep convincing herself that this house was safe, no one would come. He tried to believe Yaslan's words.

Returning from the toilet, she searched for her sleeping pills in the closet. He finds Hoddie Kairi stored inside. Anika picked it up and comforted it, for some reason she felt calmer.

Anika lay on the bed while thinking about Kairi.

Why should she...? ask in the heart. Why do I feel safe with a killer?

That night, Anika falls asleep, imagining Kairi holding herself.
