Never Not

Never Not
Ch. 79: The Uncovered Case

..."I'm not the kind person you think I am. I'm just stupid .. and proud of my stupidity that makes you happy."...

...Shohei Yamazaki~Gomen, Aishiteru....

...----------------...

"Gomen, make you wait." Shohei came out of the room while buttoning the white cameja he was wearing. He froze for a moment when he saw Seina looking intently at a painting from Rai.

"Oh, this is a gift painting from my friend" explained Shohei who was now standing next to Seina.

"Shohei-kun, does this painting have any meaning?" asked Seina with a still fixed look at the artwork.

Of course the meaning of this painting is the beginning of the agreement between himself and Rai in carrying out the mission as Mr. White and Black Shadow. Fortunately, the figure of Black Shadow was behind Mr. White is painted to resemble a shadow of Mr. White himself, so the meaning can depend on the view of the person who sees.

"That's ...." Shohei seemed to think for a moment. He then shook his head while saying, "Ah, there is no meaning whatsoever. Just a purely commercial work of art."

"Even if it's a commercial work of art, doesn't it still have the meaning of the painter?" seina said while stunned in front of the painting.

"really. Do you like this painting?"

Seina fell silent. Perhaps, he was just interested because the painting contained camellia flowers, which reminded him of every encounter with a mysterious man.

Seina then turned her head towards Shohei who was putting a tie on the collar of the cameja.

"Let's pair it!" The girl took over.

Shohei held his breath while looking at Seina's soft face with such a shrewd hand pairing a tie.

Please don't take this happiness. I want to continue like this with the woman I love ....

"Arigatou, it turns out that Seina-chan can do something like this," Shohei praised with a perfectly fluffy smile.

"This is something I've always done from a small age. When I was in elementary school, I had to get into a chair to help my dad tie up. I'm so happy to do it, that I'm not happy that papa will get married again and someone will take my place" Seina recalled as she helped Shohei put on a police suit and hat.

"It is only fitting that Mr. Matsumoto does not remarry" Shohei said with a chuckle.

"Am I evil for dominating my life too much?"

"No. You just love your dad too much and don't want him to share his love for you for anyone else." Shohei took both of Seina's hands, then gently grasped them. "Seina-chan, let's focus on each of us first. You're focused on finishing your college, and I'm focused on my big job right now. After this, we will together start a new life in this place," he said as he stared fixedly at the girl's eyeballs.

Seina was silent for a moment, then nodded weakly without saying anything.

After escorting Seina to campus, Shohei headed straight for her office. Apparently, he had been waiting in the meeting room. The law graduate at Oxford University was seated in a meeting with inspector Heiji as the head of the investigative division, as well as the inspectors of the two and three revisions. In front of them, there were dozens of Metro police detectives. Yes, the meeting this time discussed the case of the nurse girl who died at Hiroo Hospital the other day.

"Yamamoto Nanao is twenty-three years old, a nursing student who is interning at Hiroo Hospital. Found dead on Friday at 00:45." An investigation team read out a report about the nurse girl's death.

The victim had an older brother, Yamamoto Sasuke, who was examined as a witness. This case is interesting because from the autopsy results there are signs if the victim is attacked first before falling from the building floor.

"About twelve in the evening, someone saw Yamamoto Sasuke coming to the victim at the Hospital. From his description, he came to take the keys to the house, but one of the victim's interns heard they were arguing fiercely," continued the police who joined the investigation team.

"What is being argued?" ask Shohei.

"Yamamoto Sasuke said it was just a trivial matter. He has told me the details. Nothing unusual" replied the police officer.

"Has she really gone home after that?" This time the question came from Inspector Heiji who was sitting to the right of Shohei.

"No. Yamamoto Sasuke said he stopped at the Dining House near the Hospital. This is evidenced by CCTV in the Restaurant."

Seto Tanaka stood up while expressing his opinion. "The people closest to him many said that the victims had a bad and violent temper. There is a possibility that the factor of heartache or revenge becomes the trigger of the victim being attacked."

Ai Otaka, who was sitting next to Seto, only heard the words of the detectives as he moved his lips to the left and right.

"Yes, what we suspect at this time is just his ex-girlfriend and his apprentice friend who was also in a picket with him. He broke up his ex-girlfriend a week ago for no reason and it wasn't taken for granted. His friend had a fight with the victim a few days ago. But until now we have not found any evidence to arrest them" Seto Tanaka said.

"The problem ..everyone closest to him has a strong alibi" continued detective Shu who sat down while holding her sidekick.

"Then, who is the closest person to him who has martial skills?" ask Shohei.

The bruising marks on the victim's neck prove that the attacker is someone who has martial skills. This was first realized by Shohei even before the autopsy results came out.

Hearing the statements of the detectives investigating the case, Shohei could only link his fingers while thinking hard.

Then, what does the victim have to do with Akabane Ayumi-san? Why on the day before the girl's death did she meet him?

An hour after the meeting, Shohei returned to his room. While playing the television, he was stunned for a moment. The Metropolitan Police through a spokesman made an official statement to reporters that the case at Hiroo Hospital was a pure suicide. Police also denied allegations by reporters that there had been any harassment or abuse of power at the Hospital. Journalists are asked not to speculate and exaggerate the news.

Upon hearing the news, Shohei rushed to the Metropolitan Police Chief's room.

"How can Metro Police release such an official statement to the media, when forensic and autopsy results prove that he was attacked before he fell," shohei said in a fiery tone as soon as he was in the room of the Metropolitan police chief.

The Metro Police Chief who was sitting quietly in his big seat, then said casually, "I don't understand your current anger. The victim's sister, who is his only family, has accepted his sister's death without suing the police to investigate the case. There are still many cases that need to be revealed Metro Police, do not waste your time working."

"But—"

"This case is over. You can come out" said the police chief, pointing his hand at the door.

Shohei clenched his hands tightly until he revealed the veins.

"For me, the case ends only if the truth of the case is revealed" said Shohei, who made the Police Chief freeze for a moment. He then looked down and walked out of the room.

Shohei walked quickly towards his room. From behind, Seto Tanaka called out as he made a small run towards her.

"Chairman, we have been ordered to stop investigating the death of Yamamoto Nanao."

Shohei simply flinched without saying anything. From the top floor, Ai Otaka seemed to be monitoring the two.

After returning to his room, Shohei threw his body down on his padded work chair. It tries to regulate the rhythm of the breath and emotions. His eyes turned towards the window with a blank look.

If as a policeman I cannot act, then Black Shadow will act as my shadow.

By nightfall, Yuriko had returned to her apartment. When he was about to open his coat, his gaze was instead fixed on a bouquet of camellias that became memories of his meeting with Shohei. He took the bouquet, and threw it in the trash. But not for a second, he picked it up again.

The sound of knocking from next to the wall of his room suddenly sounded. Yuriko smiled wryly, then opened the window of her room. Shortly thereafter, Rai opened the window. The man was flanking a cigarette that had not been lit.

"How are you feeling right now?"

"Quite relieved. At least I wasn't too late in my own thinking. Isn't reality always in line with expectations?" A small smile flashed across Yuriko's lips. Even so, his eyes could not hide the remnants of the grief shock he experienced.

"Then how?"

"How's what?"

"Do you still want to work for him?"

"of course! He gave me a pretty decent salary with a light and flexible job. This job is only temporary, right? So, I'll just stop, if he doesn't need me anymore."

"Then, what about how you feel about her? Did you give up?"

Yuriko stared at the snow that started to fall lightly. "Just because I feel unrequited, then why should I stop liking him? Love is not like that ...."

Rai was stunned for a moment while playing a cigarette on his fingers.

"Love is something that makes people stupid. This is in my opinion," Rai said with a sneering smile. He lit a lighter to burn the tip of his cigarette, then began to suck slowly while also staring at the snow.

Regarding the feeling in my heart at the moment, I was reluctant to admit it was love. Because I'm afraid of being stupid.
