The Lives of Five Hundred Thousand

The Lives of Five Hundred Thousand
Dismantle the tomb

Raihan's permission for me to go with doctor Bayu somewhere but I don't ask where they're going. While Zain is being foster by Sukma's aunt with other Art. I sat alone on a sofa thinking who I am? am I really Hanum's mother's son and Bagas's father, Oma Melisa's granddaughter?

In the midst of pensive Oma came to me then I glanced at her and gave a smile. Oma returned my smile. After which, he thrust out a book of considerable size. For a moment I looked at the book and asked her." What is Oma?"

"This is the album of late-mama Hanum's memories that Oma kept year after year. Oma think you should look at it so you have an idea of how your mama's face is."

My saliva feels stuck in my throat. Oma has claimed that I am Hanum's mother's son even though there is no evidence that jutted there.

"Oma, why is Oma convinced that I am Hanum's mother's son while there is no corroborating evidence."

Oma sat down beside me and embraced my body." But feeling Oma says that you're Oma's granddaughter. Even if you're not Hanum's son, Oma will still consider you Oma's grandson."

I hugged her and shed my tears. I feel so moved and happy to be surrounded by people who are kind and dear to me. Raihan, Hajj and now Oma. I am so very grateful.

Oma left me after giving me that photo album. He said he would play with Zain in the park. I open a photo album that is quite thick and the cover looks worn. I open the album sheet by sheet. Every single sheet I open my smile on my lips expands to see it. The album only contains photos of Hanum's mother since she was a baby, children, teenagers, married to have a toddler.

From babies to children, Hanum's mother looks very adorable. While the photos when a teenager to marry he looks very beautiful does not change my face. It is fitting that everyone who knew Hanum's mother said that I was very similar to him because if he noticed the level of resemblance we were almost close to ninety percent.

When I opened the last page of the album, I saw a family photo that looked really sweet. Mr. Bagas with his handsome face carrying a toddler boy while his left hand embraces the shoulder of a woman who looks very similar to me and his stomach looks enlarged is sitting in a wheelchair. I feel this photo is the last photo of this family if you look from the background is in the hospital. Maybe when Hanum's mom was about to go into labor.

I was swept away staring at them and subconsciously I rubbed their faces and I rubbed my mother's big belly." What, are you really my parents? are you my family? What, is this mother's stomach me?" Suddenly my tears just flow.

In the middle of the pensive cry came a hand perched on my shoulder. That surprised me enough. I looked up as if Raihan was giving me a smile.

"Ray.." I immediately rubbed my tears and bent my face. How not to be upset if surprised in a state of mind washed away in a sad atmosphere.

"Sorry baby I didn't mean to surprise you. I've been standing behind you." Then he walked around the sofa and sat down next to me.

My forehead wiggles. Why don't I realize Raihan's presence. Was I thinking too deeply about my problems that I was unaware of the existence of someone around me.

"Ray.."

"He'em."

"Where are you from?"

"Help doctor Bayu."

"What help?"

"Have Rai come home, where's Bayu?" Suddenly, Oma came to us.

"Already Oma, doctor Bayu is still in the tomb."

"Is it dismantled?"

Raihan looked at the clock that was coiling in his hand." It seems like it's being done now, Oma."

"Oh, can you take Oma there?"

"Oma want to see the demolition of the tomb?"

"of course. Oma has to witness for herself."

"Can I come?"

Raihan and Oma glanced at me." Are you seriously looking?" Ask Raihan.

I nodded." If it's allowed."

After chatting for a long time, we decided to go to the funeral together without bringing Zain along. Oma asked Sukma's aunt to babysit Zain while we were away.

"Is Miss Hanum really my birth mother? the mother who brought me into this world? if so, what is the reason we are separated? why should I meet my mother after she's gone?"

I wiped my tears that flowed back. On the way to the tomb, I just sat pensive. Even the chatter of oma and Raihan did not seem to be heard in my ears.

"It's over, baby." Raihan suddenly patted my shoulder. Highlight my eyes immediately circled around the outside of the car. Sure enough, Raihan parked his car in front of the funeral. Before descending, I wipe my tears and allow the location of my hijab.

Raihan got off first and opened the car door for Oma. After that, he opened the car door for me.

After being outside the car, Raihan grabbed my arm and led me into the cemetery.

From a closer distance, people gathered at the Oma family's funeral. There was a doctor Bayu, one policeman, the medical, ustad and two grave diggers.

Our arrival came to the attention of the people there. We smiled at them and they returned our smiles.

"How's Bayu?" Ask Oma to doctor Bayu when we just arrived.

"Still in Oma's dig."

"How long is it, when it's not too deep." Oma started nagging her looks she was impatient. So did I.

"The ground is too hard which makes them unable to work quickly."

"Prophe Oma!"said Raihan.

An hour later the meal was finished in the dig. After that, the two grave diggers lifted a small shroud that appeared to have blackened and and seemed not intact. My heart was pounding not because I saw the shroud. Raihan held my hand tightly.

"These cadavers are still intact." Tear one of the diggers as they lay the shroud on the grass.

We look at each other." What's serious sir?" Ask the doctor Bayu in a slightly high voice to be heard by them.

Then the man looked towards us."Yes sir! it feels like hard."

"Try to open it now" said an ustad.

Then a medic and a policeman approached the blackened, not-so-intact shroud and opened it slowly.

"Astaghfiruallah the enzyme." The Ustad was quite loud when the shroud was already open. Everyone who saw the body of the baby was astonished to see it. Then the medical team conducted an examination on the body. While I, Raihan, Oma and doctor Bayu who were standing further stared dumbly at them.

"What happened to ustad?" ask doctor Bayu.

They're looking at us." It's not a dead body of a doctor Bayu, but a rubber doll" the doctor explained.

"What!" said the doctor Bayu in a high voice and walked quickly to them. Raihan follows Oma from behind. While I was just standing in place. My legs were hard to move and my body began to tremble.
