21. Trapping the protagonist

Lane, Emma and the mayor and their bodyguards arrive at the shelter base. Emma finally understands why Lane is looking for the mayor, she accidentally eavesdropped on Lane's conversation. He also finds out that Lane is the son of a general, which makes him happy that he did not choose to follow Lane wrongly.

During the trip, Emma also acts weak and takes refuge in Lane's arms but Emma is slightly dissatisfied with Lane's attitude which only feels sorry for her.

"Lane you're finally home." Olivia wants to touch Lane's hand, but Lane dodges and goes to meet Adam. Olivia finally realizes that an additional woman is following Lane like a tail.

"Who are you?" Olivia asked in an unfriendly tone, her instinct telling her that Emma was very close to Lane. Lane frowned when she heard Olivia's rude question.

"I'm Emma, I was saved by Adam." Emma introduces herself nervously, her voice unconsciously making Lane no longer care about Olivia's rudeness.

Olivia wants to clarify Emma's status but she holds it up when she sees the mayor get out of the car with his bodyguard. Adam immediately went to greet the mayor.

"I didn't expect the two of you to come up with an idea like this." The mayor enters the hotel building with Adam and Lane, Emma wants to follow Lane but Lane instead asks Joe to drive Emma to the room.

"Where does Captain Lane live?" Emma asks Joe, Joe feels a little strange about Emma and he does not expect Emma to dare to ask about captain Lane.

"I-I just wanted to thank Captain Lane." Emma was a little nervous to see Joe not answering Emma's question.

"You better not come near Lane again." Olivia suddenly appears in front of Emma.

"I-I didn't mean to go near him." Emma took one step back and dared not look at Olivia.

"You two get along, from now on you're neighbors." Joe feels a headache when he sees Olivia not giving up on getting close to Lane.

"Joe I want to see Lane, can you tell me where Lane's room is? I want to tell you something." Olivia looked at Joe expectantly.

"No, Captain Lane will punish me if I tell you where the room is." Joe wants to escape from Olivia, but given the assignment from Lane, he is forced to face Olivia.

"Then can you get rid of this woman from before me?" Olivia looked at Emma with a ferocious gaze, she felt a crisis out of nowhere.

"Sorry but this is Captain Lane's order."

"Did he deliberately want to make me jealous? Isn't it?" Joe does not answer because he himself does not know what purpose Lane put these two women in the same place.

"Miss here's your room key, don't lose it." Joe hands over the room keys and leaves the two women behind, unknowingly branding Olivia's area a forbidden zone on his mind.

"Joe what happened?" Seeing Joe in a hurry makes Jean curious.

"Ah.. J-john why are you here?" Joe was relieved to be free from Olivia.

"I just want to visit. I heard Lane has found the mayor, is that true?" Jean visits to see firsthand how Olivia reacts when she sees Emma with Lane.

"Yes that's right, they're probably in a meeting to determine who's the leader of the shelter base." Joe answered while wiping his sweat.

"But I think Adam is a suitable candidate as the leader of the shelter base." Jean does not expect the change of leader of the base to continue even though Adam survived the murder incident, it shows how powerful the plot of the novel is.

"St! Let's just talk somewhere else." Joe immediately warns Jean to shut up.

"Did anything happen while I was away?" Jean asks when Joe takes her to Lane's office.

"Adam's assassination plan happened a few days ago but officials will certainly look for other ways to get the position of leader, so they incite people by saying that Adam took advantage and blackmailed the people." Joe explained.

"Why isn't the base leader's position left to Lane?"

"Captain Lane turned down the position but if there was no other option I think captain Lane would accept the position." Joe answered again.

"Did the lady want to drink something? Tea or coffee?"

"No need, I actually want to discuss opening a gun and fuel sales shop in this place with Adam." Jean makes such a plan because the system doesn't make it clear that he should get the crystal core from selling the inventory.

"Isn't it dangerous for a miss to get such a thing alone?" Joe knew that Jean was strong but he didn't expect Jean to get what many people wanted.

"It's a trivial matter." Jean replied nonchalantly, but Jean secretly felt proud in the depths of her heart.

"Then miss just wait here until the meeting is over, miss can walk around if miss is tired of waiting, I will address this matter with Mr. Adam." Joe considers this issue so important that he immediately goes out to see the conditions in the meeting room.

The meeting room atmosphere was quite cooperative this time due to the mayor who came to pressure some officials, but it did not prevent Adam from giving up his position as the leader of the shelter base.

"Lane you're supposed to be the leader of the base, with your father as a supporter behind you they won't dare to refute your orders." The mayor patted Lane on the shoulder, the current mayor unsuitable for holding the leadership position because of the abilities he lacked.

Lane did not show any happy expression after becoming the leader of the base, instead he was a little angry because again his father's name was sold as if he always took refuge behind his father's back. Adam only goes silent to see Lane not speaking, he knows that Lane hates his father's influence.

"Alright I accept the position of base leader but Adam has to receive 30 percent of the shelter base entrance fee." Lane finally spoke, he knew that he could not refuse this position.

"If you refuse then you should think of the idea of finding another place as a shelter base." Lane stared so hard that the meeting room was quiet again.

"If nothing else then this meeting has been completed, I have received no protests from people who only speak but have no contribution to the shelter base." Continue Lane.

Lane quickly exited the meeting room, ignoring some officials who had been secretly complaining about Lane's decision.

"I think the mayor's decision has a point, I can't put pressure on the officials because I'm not at all a good political person, people will think of me as an immoral capitalist." Adam tried to comfort Lane.

"I think you're really an immoral capitalist, you're even blackmailing your future wife." Lane was slightly amused and began to accept his position as the leader of the base.

"Captain, Miss Jean came to the shelter base to discuss the gun shop." Joe approaches Lane as he watches Adam and Lane walk out of the meeting room.

"Where is he now?" Adam immediately asked.

"Miss Jean has come out of captain Lane's den, maybe she's currently circling the base." Answer Joe.

When Jane is pulled by Olivia to enter her room, Jean thinks her luck is a little bad because she is instantly discovered by Olivia.

"John I'd think that you were a woman if your voice wasn't manly." Olivia said when she realized how thin Jean's arm was when she touched it.

"Well.. My friend also thought that way." Jean was a little wary when Olivia said so.

"John I need your help, can you promise to help me? I'd be very grateful if you'd help me." Olivia pleaded with her coquettish tone while holding Jean's hand.

'My system I think I know what he's asking for.' Jean was a little creepy to see Olivia acting soft in front of her disguise.

'Pretend to act c*bul, he may soon kick you out.'

'Are you trying to make my pride collapse?!' Jean frowned when she heard the system's suggestion.

"Johns.. You want to help me, right?" Looking at Jean who was silent made Olivia a little worried. Olivia used to always do tricks like this to make a man go down and immediately grant his request.

"If it's related to Captain Lane I can't." Jean chooses to reject Olivia's request in person. Olivia is disappointed by Jean's rejection.

"Have you heard the rumors outside?" Olivia looked at Jean with a hint of hostility.

"No, I knew you were after Lane from the start." Answer Jean. Olivia is relieved to know that Jean is not the type to hear gossip. At the base, some people were gossiping about Olivia trying to seduce Lane into getting a room in the building, some people who stayed in the tent were also staring at Olivia in disdain.

"Then I'll be frank that I want to apologize to Lane..." Olivia recounts her experience meeting Lane with Olivia to the reason why Lane hated Olivia so much until now.

'I didn't expect that Olivia actually had a past like this with Lane.' Jean is a little surprised at how sorry Olivia was for deceiving Lane that time.

'Of course she has a past that makes her fit into an antagonist character, otherwise how could Olivia catch up to Lane until she finally has bad luck at the end of the novel.' System spoken.

"I don't think you should go after him, otherwise Lane will be disgusted by your existence and worsen your relationship with Lane." Jean chooses to warn Olivia.

"But I really want to apologize, at least she no longer hates me." Olivia refused to give up.

"As far as you are concerned, you will understand one day that your pursuit is futile." Jean doesn't force Olivia to give up, but she may eventually realize she can't bring everything back the way it used to be.

Emma has noticed the arrival of Jean who is then dragged by Olivia, she is a little curious about Jean who is disguised as a man, seeing the katana on Jean's back lets Emma know that Jean is also an important person at the shelter base who may be connected to Lane.

When Jean exits Olivia's room, Emma secretly follows Jean.

'Master, the female protagonist is following you.' Jean's face instantly turned grim, she didn't expect Emma would dare to follow her. Jean then stops walking and looks back, Emma panics when Jean realizes that she is following him, she then tries to blend in with the people around her so as not to get caught.

'Want to try to follow me?' Jean smiled under her mask. Jean chooses to get out of the hotel building and walk around the tent, Emma unknowingly follows Jean and loses track around the quiet place.

'Your master is very bad.' comment system.

"It turns out this is a hidden pleasure after trapping the protagonist." A feeling of pride surfaced in Jean's heart, she ignored the system's comments.

A few burly men with wounds surrounded Emma.

"Dear lady are you lost?" A man with a striking scar on his face approached Emma.

"What do you want?" Emma retreated nervously, in her heart she cursed Jean many times.

"Calm down, lady, we just want to play around with you a little bit." The four men surrounded Emma.
