25. Zombie waves
After finishing taking care of her shop, Jean went straight to Olivia's room located on the 6th floor.
"Do you need my help?" Seeing Olivia packing up makes Jean a bit of pity.
"No need." Olivia answered flatly, her mood so bad that she had no intention of talking to Jean at all.
'Sir what's wrong with you? Were you struck by lightning to help Olivia?' seeing Jean feeling sorry for Olivia made the system clueless, hadn't Jean avoided Olivia before?
'I feel like he's a little pathetic.' Jean replied with concern.
"Where will you stay after this?" Jean asked again.
"I'll stay in the tent. P*lacur was probably very happy to have kicked me out." Olivia growled furiously with a hateful tone.
"You don't have to retaliate, it'll be worth it." Jean does not understand why Olivia insists on disturbing Emma.
"I can't stay silent seeing Emma controlling Lane slowly. You saw it too, right? Why didn't you tell Lane?" Hearing Olivia's question made Jean pause for a moment.
"I know you care about Lane, but you can't make Lane trust you right away." Jean's still trying to advise Olivia.
"Sorry John, but I can't. Why do you care about me? Do you like me?" Olivia looked at Jean.
Jane : ....
'Why did he misunderstand?"Jean's a little freaked out.
'I think master does need a fake under.' replied the system.
Seeing Jean speechless, Olivia then continued, "John you're after another woman, with your current wealth there should be a lot of women chasing you, you-you should understand that there's no way we're together." Olivia patted Jean on the shoulder awkwardly, she already knew that Jean would open a gun shop even in cooperation with the person who provided the raw materials in the restaurant.
Jean couldn't bear to sneer in her heart, Who likes you? Even if I were a real man, I couldn't possibly chase you.
"Yes I know, this is a small fee for you, don't turn it down." Jean handed over 30 white crystalline nuclei to Olivia's hand. Seeing how much Jean's concern for her makes Olivia feel guilty, if only she hadn't fallen in love with Lane, she might have accepted Jean. If Jean knew Olivia's thoughts, she'd run away soon!
"Thank you John." Olivia received the crystal nucleus with a depressed face.
"You can use it to awaken abilities, though, I heard from Adam that they would soon form a team of ordinary people who have the ability to clean up the area around the base and publish missions for the ability users, it'll help you get the privilege of renting another room." Jean explained.
Olivia nodded, she couldn't stand Jean's kindness as she ruthlessly rejected Jean's feelings, so she immediately left after hearing Jean's explanation.
Emma's face looks envious when she sees Jean handing over the white crystal core to Olivia easily, she doesn't understand why Jean likes Olivia who has a temperament grumpy and just doesn't like her.
If Jean knew with Emma's mind then she would say "Girl you think too much! I'm a woman too, okay?? I can't possibly add this novel to the Yuri genre!"
Emma smiles at Jean as she passes through her room while Jean looks at Emma indifferently, Emma tightens her grip when she sees Jean's indifference.
"Why so long?" Ask Adam.
"I helped Olivia pack." Jean sits across from Adam's table, and Lane and Noel join them.
"Did he trouble you?" Lane raises his eyebrows when he finds out that Jean is close to Olivia.
"Absolutely not, he's even mingled with his new surroundings." Jean's tone was slightly insinuating but Lane was completely unconscious.
"Lane, are you sure to stop accommodating refugees? How are you gonna handle it later?" Adam immediately switched the conversation.
"Actually this is a difficult choice, you know that the number of soldiers in J city has been reduced a lot, we are not able to continue to accommodate the refugees." Implied tone of frustration from Lane's answer.
"Then how will you handle the anger of refugees?" Jean asked too.
"I plan to tell the refugees about the true function of the crystal nucleus, after all sooner or later people will know the benefits of the crystal nucleus." Lane has made a decision.
"But I don't think it's going to help much, refugees are relying too much on the military, most of them are even shaking at the sight of zombies." Adam was skeptical of the solution Adam had given him.
"That's why I need your help later." Lane pats Adam on the shoulder, Adam suddenly gets a bad feeling when he hears Lane say.
"What can I help? I'm no longer worthy of standing among officials like you." Adam immediately refused.
"Actually this is our chance to get rid of the rebels in our shelter base, I've prepared propaganda to incite the refugees." Whispering Lane in his evil tone, Jean is immediately attracted to Lane's plans.
"Actually nothing, you will help me to prevent the refugees from committing violence on the base, with your ability that has reached level 5 will make things quickly resolved." Said Lane.
"Adam you've reached level 5??" Jean was shocked when she heard that, why did Adam level up so quickly? He was still level 4.
"He is a monster, he only needs 1 crystal core to awaken his ability so I am not surprised by this speed." Lane explained. Jean looked at Adam with envy.
"I'm not a monster, it's just that my talent is excellent." Adam denies the monster nickname Lane gave him.
After finishing her business at the base, Jean prepares to leave and her gun shop is temporarily postponed to opening until the refugees have been successfully eased.
As Jean prepares to get out of the base, she suddenly sees someone she recognizes, Ethan and his family! Ethan enters the base with a group of people and is being inspected by the soldiers guarding the gate.
"Excuse me I'd like to ask, did you guys see the Barker family entering the base?" Lauren asked the soldiers guarding the gate.
"We don't know who the Barkers are, don't ask right now, look at the queue behind you!" The soldier looked at Lauren cynically and was disturbed by Lauren's question.
"Mom, we'll look for them on a later basis." Ethan stops his mother who wants to scold the soldiers, he doesn't want to get into trouble. Lauren snorted furiously, she never felt humiliated like this.
Jean sees everything from afar, she doesn't mean to say hello to them at all, let's just say she doesn't recognize them. As for his grandparents, he would tell them later.
On the way Jean felt a little strange, she didn't see any zombies anywhere! Did he forget something important?? Jean tries to remember important events in the novel.
"What happened??!!" Jean just remembered that a zombie wave would happen once a month, after a zombie wave there would be the same rain falling as the rain when the apocalypse arrived!!
"Great!!" Jean wants to rotate back into the base and immediately tells Lane and Adam, He immediately raises the speed of the car to reach the shelter base immediately before the zombie wave starts.
Jean felt the ground shake, she dared not look back at all and just focused on driving at full speed.
"Quick close the gate!!!" Shouted Jean as he reached the base, the refugees and soldiers looked at Jean in confusion.
"What are you guys doing?! Quickly close the gate!!" The soldiers then felt the ground shake and a large group of zombies rushed towards the base. The soldiers guarding the gate frantically closed the door.
"What's going on?" Lane quickly exits the building with Adam.
"There will be a zombie wave, you better prepare personnel to overcome the zombie wave." Answer Jean.
"Barnnet, Joe, you guys get the best weapons ready!" Lane orders them right away, hearing Jean's answer, knowing it's not a good thing.
"Okay captain!!" Joe and Barnnet rush to get their personnel and weapons ready.
Lane, Adam and Jean then climb into the barrier unhindered and witness the zombies that have surrounded the base, seeing from the numbers, Lane instantly estimates there are more than 400 zombies.
"How do we cope with this zombie wave?" Lane felt a headache looking at the zombie that was almost nearing the base.
"I suggest personnel who do not have the ability to deal with level 1 and 2 zombies, while those above that level are handled by ability users." Adam advised.
The refugees looked panicked, although they did not see the zombie horde but they were able to guess how many zombies were outside thanks to the ground tremors.
The army personnel had been equipped with weapons, both assault weapons and heavy weapons, they climbed to the barrier and watched the ever-increasing number of zombies in their sight.
"Foot!!" Lane's command when the zombie horde reaches a distance of 20 meters from the base.
The refugees looked terrified even mostly crying because they had just first felt a great crisis.
Jean watched the battle zones that had been chaotic, many of the level 1 and 2 zombies died from weapons, while the level 3 and above who had possessed intelligence could avoid gunfire. The soldiers bombarded the zombies leaving dozens of zombies at levels 3, 4 and 5.
"Adam, John I need your help this time." Lane. Adam and Jean nodded in agreement, they could not let the base be destroyed by the zombie waves.
"Stop firing!" The gunfire stopped and the base went back silent.
"Advanced ability users!" Lane's orders. Adam and Jean advance along with Lane and a dozen other ability users.
The zombies in front of them roared furiously and rushed towards them at a speed beyond the limits of ordinary humans. Jean confronts one level 3 zombie that she thinks is easy to handle, Jean then takes out her electrical abilities and encircles the zombie with all four thunderbolts, the zombie then dies a blink of an eye without being able to avoid Jean's lightning.
A zombie behind Jean attempts to injure Jean, but is scorched to death by Adam's abilities.
"Be careful!" Adam approached Jean with worry and realized how careless Jean was.
