Towards Eternity

Towards Eternity
Ch 563's. Ghoul Core

Of the many opponents he had faced, Weng Lou had never fought the Evil Spirit before. Not because he did not dare, but he did not have the opportunity to visit one of them.

Unlike the wild and demon beasts that could reproduce and develop easily, a Spirit required several conditions that had to be met in order to become an Evil Spirit or a Vindictive Spirit. The Evil Spirit or Vengeful Spirit comes from the dead and has hatred that reaches the maximum point it has to become an Evil Spirit or Vindictive Spirit.

Usually they can be found in the area of a former big battle or an area where there were many deaths. They would naturally absorb other Spirits and strengthen themselves to a certain point. They were indiscriminate and attacked anyone they saw. Even their intelligence was usually below that of ferocious beasts and demons that possessed equivalent strength.

If these Evil Spirits continue to grow, there are times when they turn into something more evil, namely Ghoul. In this form, they can change forms at will and have intelligence like humans. But Ghoul is just a fairy tale because for decades no one has seen it directly.

*v*Syyaatt!!!*

Weng Lou's sword swung down and cut off the neck of the last Evil Spirit.

*bruk...* Qianren's body immediately fell onto the ground and her breathing was wheezing. Sweat flooded his body and he looked like he would lose his consciousness at any moment.

Weng Lou who saw him only smiled while shaking his head. He gently inserted the previous pill into Qianren's mouth. The girl did not fight back at all and chose to directly swallow the pill to absorb its efficacy. If only his condition were a little better, he would have bitten Weng Lou's finger as he would have casually put the pill into his mouth.

Qianren chose to sit cross-legged and focus on recovering himself, while Weng Lou was busy checking their surroundings and looking for the gift that should be in that place.

It didn't take long for Weng Lou to find him. He with a big smile picked up a ring decorated with a pomegranate-red gem stuck in the labyrinth wall. The sparkle of the jewel makes anyone who looks at it will feel that the ring is a very valuable object and will do everything to continue to have it.

"Illusion Technique, huh? That meant this was an heirloom Level 3 Weapon, completely unexpected. But unfortunately I do not have the ability to use it because it does not have Qi, this thing will only bring bad luck if it is with me" murmured Weng Lou.

"I don't want it, you just take the ring," said Weng Lou.

He casually threw the ring at Qianren who was completely unprepared in the slightest. As a result, the ring hit his head and ended with Weng Lou getting a blow on his head.

A small bump could be seen near Qianren's forehead resulting from the impact of the jewel ring. Qianren's face looked annoyed as he was still examining the jewel ring, while Weng Lou went looking for other objects, it was possible that they might get another gift.

But after ten minutes of searching, he did not get anything in that place. Until when he thought of taking Qianren to another place, accidentally a dark black bead was kicked by him. Quickly Weng Lou chased after and picked up the bead. His forehead shriveled as he sensed the bead contained a murderous vapour and also some dark-elemented Qi which was like being locked inside. Also, he faintly sensed the Soul Power contained within it yet it was extremely vague and thin.

"This...isn't this the Ghoul core? Why is it here?" Qianren who also saw the bead in Weng Lou's hand told him what the bead in Weng Lou's hand was.

"Come Ghoul?" Weng Lou had just heard something like that. Since he had never met an Evil Spirit on Black Sand Island before, it was clear he had never seen a Ghoul either. The information in the Northern Heavens Sect did not tell anything about the Ghoul core that Qianren had said, therefore he felt interested, it was rare for him to find something he did not know before.

"You really don't know? The Ghoul Core was the power core of a Ghoul. The core is a power that has been solidified by the Ghoul starting from when he was still an Evil Spirit or a Vindictive Spirit. It was usually no bigger than an adult thumb, but the one in my hand was too small, seemingly from one of the Evil Spirits you had killed. It's a good thing that we finish them off, or else a Ghoul will be born and terrorize this entire labyrinth," explained Qianren who looked like a teacher who provided information to his student.

Hearing that explanation, Weng Lou's curiosity grew bigger and he wanted to find out more. He immediately asked back, "Then? What use? Can it help the training of a Martial Practitioner? Or become a high-level weapon manufacturing material?"

It looked as if Weng Lou had become a little excited, he was always like this when he discovered something new, and he definitely wanted to know something as a whole without anything left.

Qianren felt a little strange by Weng Lou's reaction and question, but he immediately answered her because he did not want this young man in front of him to do anything dangerous to him just to open his mouth.

While taking the Ghoul Core out of Weng Lou's hands, Qianren began to explain slowly, "This Ghoul Inti is useful to fellow Ghouls and Evil Spirits, he said, usually Martial Practitioners who are the controllers of Evil Spirits use the Ghoul Core to strengthen their Evil Spirits and make their chances of becoming Ghouls even greater."

"There are also some Martial Practitioners who wear it directly for themselves by absorbing it. The Ghoul Core that had the strength of the Dark-elemented Qi could be absorbed by Martial Practitioners who had Dantian with the Dark element and made the Qi belong to them. So it's like the Qi reserve."

The explanation from Qianren satisfied Weng Lou's curiosity, yet he was still not satisfied and realized there was one thing that Qianren had not discussed regarding the Ghoul Core.

"What about the Soul Power contained within it? Can't it be used in the least?"

"Soul Power? What are you talking about? Where is the Soul Power within the Ghoul Core. Although it comes from a Spirit, but Ghouls and Evil Spirits actually do not have a real Soul at all which makes them have no Soul Power." Qianren shook his head, then gave the Ghoul Core back to Weng Lou and immediately invited him back to continue the journey.

Weng Lou agreed and walked along with Qianren. But inside his head he was busy thinking about Qianren's words.

Qianren said the Ghoul Core had absolutely no Soul Power, but the Ghoul Core currently in his hands clearly had that, even though he only felt it the same way, but his body, which had previously been a Martial Practitioner in the Soul Unification Realm capable of manipulating the Soul Power, was extremely sensitive to everything regarding the Soul Power.

He tightly grasped the Ghoul Core and tried to feel it more thoroughly. Using the Soul Cleansing Technique, he divided his consciousness and examined the inside of the Ghoul Core.

On the outermost part, he felt a Qi that was slightly contaminated with some negative energy due to the vengeful emotions that the Evil Spirits had previously had, then the deeper his consciousness entered he could feel the element of Darkness slightly resonating with his consciousness. Weng Lou didn't care much about it, as he would not be able to use that Qi after all while not having a Dantian.

His consciousness was increasingly exploring the Ghoul Core, until finally he reached the deepest part, or the core that contained the Soul Power.

Weng Lou was a little surprised to find that the Soul Power that was within it was actually forming the body of a human who if he did not mistakenly remember resembled one of the figures of the Evil Spirit that he had exterminated. The Soul Power of that Evil Spirit had turned into a surrogate consciousness but it seemed imperfect because the Soul Power did nothing but stand silently staring towards Weng Lou's consciousness.

When Weng Lou was still thinking, suddenly the Soul Power that formed the body of consciousness was moving closer to his consciousness. Weng Lou's attention immediately returned to him and he noticed what he wanted to do.

The right hand of the body of consciousness was slowly raised and was like wanting to touch Weng Lou's consciousness. His mouth moved and like he wanted to say something, but it was a sound coming out. Even so, just by looking at the mouth movements, Weng Lou could understand what that consciousness was saying. Weng Lou's consciousness twitched and formed a single line of sentences that made the consciousness pause for a moment and smile at Weng Lou's consciousness.

Suddenly, the Ghoul Core that was in Weng Lou's hands let out a dim light, and then shattered into pieces. A thread of Soul Power came out of the Core and moved into Weng Lou's body.

There was no change felt by Weng Lou after that bit of Soul Power entered his body, but his facial expression became a little cold as well as his two eyes that reflected a cold look.

What the previous consciousness had said was to ask if Weng Lou would avenge her, which was to kill the herd of cunning demons that had taken her life as well as her fiance. If Weng Lou wanted to, that consciousness was willing to disappear and allow his Soul Power to enter Weng Lou's body to possess it.

Weng Lou immediately accepted it. He did not know if his Soul Power that had been buried within his body could react by having a new Soul Power, but there was no harm in trying.

After all, he did intend to finish off all the demons in the labyrinth, so there was no reason to refuse his request.

***

Inside the labyrinth, several tens of meters away from where Weng Lou and Qianren had previously faced the Evil Spirits.

A myriad of Fire Fox Demon was lying spoiled in the labyrinthine passageway filled with hot lava that had come out of nowhere. These demons lay comfortably without being bothered by the lava that continued to burst very hot bubbles. Some of the demons were seen eating their dinner and others were soaking in the screen.

In the middle of the lava, a Fire Fox Demon that was slightly larger in size and had a much darker fur color was sleeping and exuding power in the peak stage 4 Soul Cleansing realm. From the behavior of the other demons, it was clear that this demon was their leader or mother.

The demon was enjoying his sleep when then he opened his eyes suddenly and immediately stood up while staring in one direction.

The other Fire Fox Demon also woke up and stared at where their leader was staring. From that direction, two human figures were seen walking towards them without hiding their killing intent.

"Grtp...."

"Ourrrhhh...."

The demons looked unhappy at the arrival of Weng Lou and Qianren. Even their leader was growling furiously. Without waiting any further, he directly directed his subordinates to attack them.

"You back off, this fight you don't need to follow" Weng Lou said as he clasped one of his swords.

"It's up to you."

Weng Lou's feet slowly stepped. His body shot forward, and like a blowing wind, was moved slashing at the demons with agility.

*v*Syatt!!! Tesshhhh!!! Splasshh!!* With just one strike, Weng Lou is able to kill one demon. His hands continued to move and he continued to enter the passageway until he reached the lava section.

The hot air there was not cared for by Weng Lou, or rather, he did not consider the screen at all because he did not feel the slightest heat.

Being in his own lair, the Fire Fox Demon began to take advantage of their advantages. With the power of the fire element already embedded within them, various kinds of fire elemental attacks were given to Weng Lou mercilessly.

Weng Lou's sword was raised, and with one swing he blew out all those fire attacks. A terrifying look could be seen on his face. The demons were like getting a bad premonition, without being ordered at all they started running around to retreat away from Weng Lou.

"This is what you want, right? Hopefully you can still see it from there well" Weng Lou said in a cold voice he rarely used.

Suddenly everything around Weng Lou seemed to slow down, and Weng Lou's eyes saw all the movements of the demons who were crashing forward towards him. Weng Lou took his breath, he moved his sword backwards, then took a firm foothold using his right foot.

"Original Sword Technique, Leaf Miscarriage."

*Sshuuu....*

Weng Lou's sword movements looked extremely slow, yet every time he passed through a single demon, their bodies were instantly shredded into pieces. Blood did not splash anywhere, and flowed slowly following the fall of every piece of the body that had been cut off.

All the existing Fire Fox Demon died all the while leaving the leader who looked at Weng Lou with a deep killing intent.

"Don't blame me, you're not aware of your position as a demon. You should submit to humans according to the applicable laws of force" said Weng Lou and he beheaded the demon.

The Flame Fox Demon Master did not see Weng Lou's movements at all, in the blink of an eye his gaze had turned dark and he ended up dying in a single strike.

There was no sense of pride or pleasure on Weng Lou's face after finishing off the Fire Fox's demons. He realized these demons were only lower-grade demons stationed in the labyrinth's outermost area. The demons who were actually obstacles were deep within the labyrinth and were waiting for its arrival.
