Eps. 258 — Imperial Capital

"We could have been up until now but the sky is almost dark, we should have gone on tomorrow to the capital..."

A few days passed, Jian Chen was already close to his goal, perhaps staying another half a day until they could get to the Imperial capital.

Jian Chen laid off his horse when the time had come late into the night, as he would normally make a bonfire.

Although the distance of his goal was close but Jian Chen saw that the two girls looked not too happy. Jian Chen tried to ask the reason.

"That's..." Ziyun bit her lips as Jian Chen realized her feelings. "Brother Jian, what if the warriors chasing me come back..."

Jian Chen recalled that when Ziyun mentioned it, he had interrogated the people who were chasing Ziyun while at the inn first.

Based on the information from their mouths, the people chasing after the two girls were from the Wuming clan.

Jian Chen himself did know of the clan but only a fleeting information, one of the famous ones in the Wuming clan was about their eye techniques.

Jian Chen gently rubbed Ziyun's cheek, "I promised to protect you guys, trust me..."

Ziyun actually did not care about her safety but she thought more about Meily and Jian Chen. He did not want the two of them to get involved in his problem.

Ziyun looked at Jian Chen's eyes for a moment before nodding softly while Meily did not say much but her face also followed with anxiety.

Jian Chen then had Ziyun hand the Ice God Sword to him for some time.

"They're only after this sword so if they want it then have to take it away from me..." Jian Chen then said that he had his own plans regarding this matter of the Ziyun and Wuming clans.

The next day the two continued on their way and just when the sun was at the peak, the three of them could already see the Imperial Capital.

The Imperial Capital was the largest city in the Dragon Empire, a city that housed dozens of clans as well as noble families.

The Imperial Capital was a densely populated city, having millions of inhabitants, according to the records that nearly forty percent of the population of the Fire Dragon Province was in the capital.

"It turns out nothing has changed despite being 8 years ago..." Jian Chen who looked at the Capital smiled faintly.

He could be said to have visited the Capital in his first life after finishing training from his teacher, at that time he was already twenty-six years old.

The Imperial Capital was named Shandong City in this city where the palace of His Majesty the Emperor was located, precisely in the center of Shandong City.

Jian Chen spurred his horse until he arrived at the entrance gate of the city, Shandong City had a sturdy and extremely tall fortress. Jian Chen had to raise his head to look at the end of the fortress.

"Wait a minute, we'll check on you!"

The three gate attendants stopped Jian Chen's carriage as it was about to pass through the gate, other than them asking for an identity to show, they also checked the contents within Jian Chen's carriage.

The three officers seemed to react when they saw Jian Chen's golden identification card, he looked at the young man in front of him once again then glanced at the two girls beside him, their faces were slightly shocked when they saw Ziyun and Meily.

"Is there something?"

Jian Chen asked in a cold tone when he saw the gazes of the three guards on his two girls.

Jian Chen was not jealous but their reactions were clearly unnatural, as knowledgeable as Jian Chen was by his experience, the three guards seemed to know Ziyun and Meily.

"Ah no, sorry for hindering your journey, now you may enter the city..."

Jian Chen narrowed his eyes at the three guards which made them break out in cold sweat as well as slightly misbehaving. Jian Chen snorted and swung his saddle rope, stepping into the Capital.

'More than I remember...'

"Brother Jian, is there something with that attendant?" Ziyun asked after her carriage had moved away from the previous three officers.

Ziyun and Meily were now sitting on the side of Jian Chen.

"I'm not too sure but they seem to know you?"

"Is it because of my sword?"

Jian Chen did not answer him first, there was a possibility that it was true but he did not immediately answer because it would make Ziyun worried.

"I don't know but for sure once you're here, at least you're safe..." Jian Chen stroked the head of the girl.

"Brother Jian..." Meily from the side of the others called out her name while playing her finger timidly.

Jian Chen chuckled, he stroked the top of Meily's head as well, it seemed like the girl was jealous of not being petted as well.

Jian Chen then said that the two of them should not go straight to the academy, it was simple because if Ziyun and Meily were to go there now, the Wuming clan master was already waiting for him.

"So what should we do?" Ziyun asked worriedly.

"Nothing, after I take you two to the inn, you rest there first, tomorrow we'll go to the Academy."

Meily and Ziyun looked puzzled but he did not refute Jian Chen's words, both of them were sure there was a strong reason Jian Chen said so.

Jian Chen finally found a simple inn in the rows of city buildings, there were actually many inns there but Jian chose a simple one.

After ordering three rooms, Meily and Ziyun immediately cleaned herself up, Jian Chen also did not miss, there was a pool soaking in the inn.

When the night when Jian Chen was training in his room, he suddenly realized there was someone monitoring him outside the inn.

That person had deliberately concealed his whereabouts but in the presence of Jian Chen's abilities, they remained undetected.

Jian Chen immediately jumped out the window to look at the people, his slow voice that those people would not notice.

He then found seven people on top of the roof of the building monitoring the accommodation he was staying.

They were whispering with eyesight fixed on Ziyun and Meily's room. Jian Chen monitored them for a moment before hearing from the whisper that they were warriors from the Wuming clan.

Without further ado, Jian Chen appeared behind them, with a single swing of his hand, he quickly hit the nape of their necks which made him instantly faint.

Those people were too late to realize Jian Chen's arrival, only when there were only 3 more people left that they realized that their comrades had become unconscious.

Jian Chen smiled coldly before appearing behind them and hitting the nape of his neck back. He left only one person for interrogation.

Just as Jian Chen was about to interrogate him, there was a voice coming from behind him.

"Young man, you seem to have enough ability to deal with our clan..."

Jian Chen frowned when he saw that the two men were already old, which made Jian Chen slightly astonished because of their strength which was the swordsman of the Sky Realm.

"Ah, so I see, you guys are part of the Wuming clan that wants someone's heirloom sword, is my guess right?" Jian Chen smiled widely.

Jian Chen's question made the two old men startled as well as wary, Jian Chen being able to recognize the origin of their clan was not surprising but knowing its purpose was another story.
