"Find out the truth from the closest person to the Crown Prince. That way the information we will get need not be doubted."
Alastair recalled Louis George's remarks last week when they met again to discuss the issue of strange deliveries from the palace to the dock.
From the data obtained so far, Alastair concluded that Evandre had many men who secretly kidnapped children to be sold outside Sormenia alive. Ah, naw. It's not like that. Mean luck.
Yes, which human can survive long in a tightly sealed wooden box?
After learning of the atrocities, Alastair formed a special force scheduled to stand guard in turn. He did not know when the heinous kidnappers would act, so Alastair put his men around parks and markets. All his people were encouraged to keep their children extra. So far, no more kidnapping cases in Brighton have been heard.
Alastair swept his gaze as he got off the horse carriage. This time he was ready with a black suit complete with all sorts of attributes. The man looked dashing as he entered the main hall. From afar, classical music has been heard filling the increasingly crowded atmosphere.
"Rex of Royale, Major General Grand Duke of Brighton Alastair Ephraim la Empyrean!"
Everyone was certainly no stranger to the long name that the guard had just mentioned. Alastair la Empyrean, who used to be the Crown Prince before the previous king died, finally set foot on the debutante after a long time.
Actually Alastair came here to find information, not to find a wife.
Secretly the socialite mothers docked. Talking about Alastair who has the potential to raise the good name of their family if they can raise the man to be a son-in-law.
Young women are no less competitive. The proof is now that five women in colorful dresses seem to approach Alastair with a face that is trying to be softened.
"I didn't expect to meet the Grand Duke here" said one of them while playing his dark hair that was stroked down to his back.
"Is the Grand Duke finally intent on finding a wife?" Ask the others and then blush. "If that's the case, why don't you just choose me, Grand Duke?"
Their talk to Alastair was like the hum of a bee, only to be considered the wind. Alastair turned his gaze in the other direction. On one of the wallflower chairs, he saw the beautiful Luz sitting alone like a lonely person in the crowd.
Alastair intended to approach but soon the woman in a cream dress seemed to approach Luz first so that Alastair undo his intentions.
At least Luz already has friends. He doesn't have to worry.
Not far from the row of wallflower, Alastair found the Duke of Lancess, Louis George was with four women who surrounded him. As if having a sharp instinct, the man turned to Alastair and gave a code that he immediately understood.
Look at the two-hour hand!
In the direction Louis was referring to, Alastair saw the woman they had targeted. Princess Giselle la Empyrean, Alastair's female cousin who is currently chatting with the ladies.
Only a few people know how difficult Princess Giselle and Crown Prince Evandre are. According to rumors, they once shared a bed together. But unfortunately the new policy of King Izaikhel that forbids fellow brothers to marry made the two frustrated. There is nothing wrong with the King's policy, because marriage between brothers can increase the possibility of children being born disabled.
That's why Evandre ended up being thirsty for women and Giselle was the original pick of a future husband. His childhood friend was turned into an escape. But before long Giselle is eyeing the more handsome and wealthy Alastair. Unfortunately the topaz-patterned man was not approachable.
The point is that both people are equally easy to love many partners. Yes, just like their father could love his queen and his sister-in-law at once. Queen Monetta and former Queen Isabelle, Alastair's mother.
If Evandre and Giselle were that close, surely at least Giselle knew something ....
"My Lord, did you hear us?"
Alastair's daydream broke when one of the ladies approached and dared to touch his arm. Alastair jerked the woman's hand in a gentle gesture. "Sorry, ladies. I have other business, excuse me."
Alastair heard a disappointed sigh from behind him but the man did not care and continued to walk closer to Princess Giselle. At first the woman was unaware of his presence. But after one of his friends whispered, his eyes immediately turned to Alastair with a sparkling gaze.
"Grand Duke!"
Giselle quickly stood up and approached Alastair who was not far from her place. Alastair grabs Giselle's glove-covered hand and then kisses her, treating the woman just like any other respectable woman.
"The dance will soon begin, Your Highness. Would you dance with me?"
Without thinking of anything, Giselle nodded in agreement. With the classical music of the first round coming to an end, it was time to dance.
This time the friction of the violin sounded softer. Alastair pulls Giselle's hand into the middle of the hall, as the first couple to do the dance. Once again, Alastair glanced towards the wallflower seat. There Luz was still busy with three women who seemed to clash their mouths, standing right in front of him.
Love, look at me now. Don't you feel jealous?!
But Alastair's wait did not come. Precisely Luz was seen standing up while floating a speech that —seems— is not pleasant to hear from the gestures of women in cream dresses who bow respectfully and then leave.
"Grand Duke, what are you paying attention to?"
Alastair's attention returned to Giselle who was looking at him curiously.
"No need to mess around, Your Highness." Alastair threw a faint smile. "How have you and the Crown Prince been doing lately?"
"Why is that?"
Alastair, one of the people who is included in knowing about Evandre and Giselle's complicated relationship, has gained trust.
"The Crown Prince seems to be interested in other women," he replied honestly. Inevitably, the usually cheerful bead was slowly mellow. "Every time I go to him, he's always busy."
"That's because your partner and brother are after Crystal Lady!"
Giselle looked back at him. As if he knew Alastair's heart, he again said, "Do you know what he is hiding from me? You're both men, you must think the same."
"I'm not the same as the Crown Prince, Your Highness." Alastair tried to be patient. Tasty, her clean self is equated with Evandre who likes to go in and out of brothels. "Maybe the Crown Prince has another flurry?"
"Ah, yes. Why am I curious about his change of attitude. I like the Grand Duke." Giselle gave her sweetest smile. "And you're right, Evandre's been a lot busier lately."
"Rightly, is the Crown Prince planning to make something for Sormenia?"
"He used to go to the Lancess with Cornelius for some reason. He only told me that that's where the storehouse of his money is stored," replied Giselle without burden and then laughed softly. Not realizing that Alastair was scraping information from him.
"The Crown Prince is very lucky. Born into a prince and a rich man, surely he always worked hard to make it happen."
"All we're talking about right now is the Crown Prince, the Grand Duke. Not the son of another king," said Giselle also feel proud of the greatness of her brother. "Crown Prince means successor to the king, right. So whatever the order is, people are trying to respond. And what was it, working? Huh, he only needs to talk for a while and his work will be done directly by Cornelius."
So Evandre's right hand was involved in the kidnapping of Sormenia's children?
"I have an acquaintance in the Lancess. If the Crown Prince were to run into trouble, he could ask my friend for help," bargained Alastair who was once again able to lure Giselle to uncover Evandre's secret.
"He won't have any trouble. The Crown Prince has many headquarters there and plans the port of Lancess will soon be bought from the Duke of Lancess. We just have to wait for the news" replied Giselle lightly.
Alastair felt the information he needed was enough. It would be suspicious if he kept asking the Crown Prince whose incident was not with them. After that, the conversation Giselle threw was only made sober. And if I may, Alastair desperately expects the music to be over so they can part ways.
Before long Alastair's request seemed to be granted. The second round of music is over. The man released the link of his hand even though Giselle responded with a heavy heart.
"It's great to dance with you, Your Highness." Alastair lowered his head, Giselle naturally followed him with a slight lift to the end of the dress.
"Can we dance together again, Your Grace?"
Alastair was silent, but then he smiled. "of course. Next time."
After finishing his farewell with the princess, Alastair asked for permission to face the Crown Prince who was currently still in his study.
After returning to her seat, Princess Giselle received many congratulations for her success in attracting the Grand Duke to dance in the hall. Giselle smiled broadly. Turning his gaze to a gloomy-looking woman on one of the wallflower seats, he spoke triumphantly in his own heart.
Look, Crystal Lady. The Grand Duke alone even prefers me over you. So don't you ever dream of getting my Grand Duke even more Crown Prince!
And yes, actually Giselle knows whatever Evandre has done. Including his feelings for Marquis Thompsville's second child.
Furthermore, Giselle would not allow the woman to snatch her two men!
