The Wiz

The Wiz
Chapters 37. The Past Story

Camoline lowered her head. It had not even been a year since he had been in this Academy, but he felt alien to the figure of the man beside him. The person who had cared for him since childhood, did not even look to age in the slightest.

"How are you doing?"

Camoline's head turned to look at Carlus, her father. Then, his gaze descended on his right arm which looked extremely pitiful. His arms were clearly the center of his father's attention.

"Not bad but it can't be said to be good either" Camoline replied. Carlus nodded in understanding. A breath slowly came out of his mouth. The man's eyes were so sharp, but Camoline could feel how the father looked at her affectionately.

Ah, by the way, her father must have been lonely from having to live alone.

"What about Dad?" ask Camoline. Carl turned back to his daughter. He smiled with soft eyes. His rough hands rubbed Camoline's head affectionately.

"As you can see, Dad stays as usual. Busy mixing these strange liquids. Although it feels so empty because you are not around Dad," said Carlus. Camoline fell silent. He stared at his face for a moment before he threw his gaze forward. His chest suddenly felt tight just from hearing this Carlus saying.

"Don't think about Dad. You have to train very well in order to live better than your father. Don't let your future be as dark as Dad." Camoline did not respond to Carlus' words. He lowered his head. There are many things that he kept secret from his father. About the Opal stone in his body until he who is the reincarnated soul from 500 years ago. Camoline wanted to tell me everything. Clamoring, sharing the burden in his mind like a child to his father.

But it's hard. Not as easy as he imagined.

Camoline was afraid, her father would choose to stay away and no longer consider himself.

"By the way, what about your school? Pleasant? You have friends, right?"

Camoline turned towards Carlus slowly. Carlus's face was so excited. Very curious to know his son's feelings during his schooling at this Academy. A renowned academy that always graduates outstanding students.

"Yes" said Camoline. He almost spoke in a nervous tone. "It's quite fun and I have friends too" Camoline continued.

Carlus smiled with satisfaction. Again, he rubbed his son's head. His gaze then shifted, watching the view of the grass in front of him. Even so, his ears were sharp enough to hear the voices of the students who were in the building. Some people have mentioned the name of their child. Carlus glanced at his daughter. He did not expect that Camoline would be popular enough.

"16 years ago, was the first day we met." Carlos glanced at Camoline. Both corners of his lips lifted after successfully attracting the attention of his son.

"At that time, the temperature was very cold. There was a huge storm the night before, making the streets covered with snow. In fact, my door barely opened because of the pile of snow behind the door." Carlus took a long breath. He smiled again when he remembered that time. His head turned, looking at Camoline who looked very interested in the story. Things Carl has never told Camoline before.

"For my strength I open the door. Melting ice in the doorknob. And guess what I found after that? A bag of ice came into my house. Not only that, but a little baby came in. I suspect, the baby was on a pile of snow. I don't know since when, but her body was so pale and cold when I carried her." Carlus looked at Camoline calmly. However, both of his eyes started to water.

"A very pretty baby with both irises blue. A bit of water in the ocean. He has a sweet smile. However, there was one thing that made me so worried back then."

Camoline's views collide with Carlus's. In his heart, he hoped if his conjecture was wrong.

"A holy stone that shines in your stomach. I'm afraid there's a bad guy who's gonna be after your life to get it. Until you're 10, I keep moving places and making sure you don't interact with people for too long."

One drop of water fell from Camoline's eye patch. Allegedly right. Carlus was telling me about himself. Which means all along, he wasn't Carlus' real son.

"Dad." Carlus cleared his throat slowly. He rubbed Camoline's left cheek with a trace of tears. Carlus smiled, but Camoline knew that Carlus' smile was not as bright as usual.

"Who and where you come from, you are still my son, Camoline," Carlus said. Camoline could not hold herself back anymore. He quickly got into Carlus' arms. Hugging the figure who had been his father all this time with sobs that sounded heartbreaking.

Camoline had been feeling very guilty all along. He hides a lot of things, especially about the fact that he is a soul from 500 years ago. About the Opal stone inside his stomach as well. Without him knowing, if Carlus already knew first and even keep himself since childhood from people who might finish him to get this stone.

Carlus stroked his daughter's back slowly. It seemed Carlus did not want to believe that the baby he found at that time was this big. The fragile baby had already become a beautiful and brave girl. Carlus took a long breath. Time passed very quickly without him noticing.

"Please promise to remain your beloved daughter, Camoline," whispered Carlus. Camoline nodded strongly. Of course he would always consider Carlus his father. Even if he had to live again hundreds of years later. He will still consider Carlus his father.

Because even in his first life, he did not have a single parent figure.

Until her second life, one thing Camoline could not figure out was where she came from. In his first life, the clan elders only explained that he and a few chosen children were children created for the blessing of the God. If equated, they were equivalent to Pandora, the human created by the Gods back then. Only, their hearts were purified so envy and envy would never come.

He and the chosen children were not born like other human children. They were created from a light, making Camoline not feel any inner bond with a person. Or call someone as their Father or Mother. And in this second life, when she had a father, Camoline was very happy. Although never met with the figure of a mother, but Camoline is sure if she was born from the womb of a woman. Like any other human.

But again, hope is only hope. She was not born from the stomach of a mother. Its origin is very unclear. Either she is reborn from a light like before, or there is indeed a mother who threw herself away at that time. Camoline can't know for sure.
