High School Soldier
The 12th Team of the Reconnaissance and Battle Corps

There is a building that usually only officers can enter and use, they can discuss anything without being known to the enlisted or noncommissioned soldiers here. While some soldiers were second-guessing the first mission to be accepted, a similar conversation was also taking place here, and Nio was involved in it.

No one cared about the officers who had their own dining room, the soldiers still responded with 'dining room in the middle of the battlefield', and were filled with discomfort. Someone might comment seeing a special dining room for Peace Forces officers here, “The squad really knows how to spend the budget, even used to build a dining room.”

The Peace Corps of the Sea and Water Troops could laugh seeing this, but the people still could not understand those who fought in ‘hotel floating’.

The news that the special feeding place would be used for the gathering of the officers reached Nio's ears. He was used to being surrounded by officers who had experience and a higher age than him, but the topic of conversation was what bothered him.

“Yah... I indeed cannot oppose it.”.

Nio barely put anything in to fill his stomach in the final day of the Alliance Army raid in that day, yet he could not complain about it in front of the other officers. He was the only Peace Forces officer to have served in the war while the Expeditionary Force was still present, and Indonesian, Russian, and other officers, and North Korea has only just set foot in this other world.

“Lettu Nio, I know if you might still be afraid to go again to the front line. But, I also hope you have a foresight.”

Unfortunately, his superior and supreme commander of the Peace Forces, General Angga Mandala Sudarmono, did not support his perspective. After all, this is part of the improvement so that the events of the previous war do not happen again. He hoped that Nio would take the position for granted. However, for Nio who had seen with his own eyes the battlefield when 300,000 human and monster soldiers of the Alliance Army raided the Expeditionary Force with a total of 14,809 soldiers, the plan was too dangerous.

Nio Candranala has been named First Lieutenant after returning home from a deadly battlefield with the rest of the Expeditionary Force soldiers. He was still afraid of it, but there was still time to change things. He had thought that the plan for the formation of the Reconnaissance and Battle Corps would not happen, and that he would become a staff or a strategy unit. He did not think that the words of the TNI Commander really came true, and he was really dragged.

“It was a nightmare! That plan is really dangerous! ” Nio muttered like that in his heart. Although his heart felt a feeling of nervousness and fear, but Nio still showed a calm expression in order to maintain the formality.

“We have heard if you get a lot of praise from President Suroso, and see your achievements during becoming a soldier.”

That said, it was one of the Peacekeeping officers of the Russian contingent named Deska. It is true that there are some records that support Deska's view, but Nio considers himself very hateful of fights.

However, the acknowledgement from Nio's subordinates in the Cruiser Squad 1 said that he had really worked hard to guard them during the Alliance's great raid, instead, as a result, none of them died and made it home. They did not care about Chadra's death, because at that time Nio was not in command.

In conclusion, Nio was the only officer who was still hesitant to lead one of the teams from the Reconnaissance and Battle Corps. The insistence of a higher-ranking officer and his equal made the burden on Nio's mind pile up, but lightened the burden for the troops if Nio agreed to lead one of the teams.

“He still has the will to fight, but he still maintains his right mind in order to avoid losses,” Major Teguh continued.

“In the end I was considered to have matured through warfare. Though I have never been through officer education.”

If it was the thing that made Nio hesitant to accept the position of team leader, the views of the people in this place might change. But, people actually assume that being an officer through the path of war, then getting praise from many parties, and being elected to kstaria is the perfect thing.

“You shouldn't mind leading a team of 12 people including yourself, Lieutenant Nio,” said Captain Lee Baek Ho.

“The squad could not let the capable warrior potential waste away. You should know that.”

The fellow officers made Nio have to make a steady answer that did not make him regret later on. In fact, he never thought that he should be in a room full of experienced officers.

“Then.... I don't mind..” but the anxiety is still there.

“Alright, First Lieutenant Candranala becomes the captain of the 12th team. And will be on duty as soon as.”

“Am I going to be okay? ”

The conversation moved on to the next topic.

Nio did not know the name of the food that was in front of him, as it was the Arevelk reward for this army. He liked the taste of meat similar to the taste of chicken meat, and it was a dish that was hard to obtain on the battlefield. At the forefront, it would be very difficult to get food like this again, unless there was a group of kindhearted people sharing the food. Only the soldiers in the back line would normally get such food.

The dining room is also planned to be used for those returning from the front lines, and will get an exclusive menu that can only be found here, such as warm rice paddies, and will get an exclusive menu, not the rice paddocks obtained on a ration that is almost expired.

However, Nio thought that instant noodles brewed in glasses were much tastier than the fancy food he was consuming right now. Does this army want to defeat the Alliance for the best officer dining room contest with the most delicious food in the world? Even roadside warteg is still much more comfortable according to Nio.

However, if this meeting does not exist then Nio will immediately be appointed as the chairman of one of the Reconnaissance and Battle Corps teams without going through a series of problems like that.

“What do you think, Lieutenant Nio? This is a special dining room for frontline warriors like us?”

Nio wouldn't have come here if he hadn't received the order from General Angga himself, and it was an order that couldn't be refused even though he had to be forced to spend dozens of dishes of rice paddies.

“Ready, frankly I'm not too impressed-because we're surrounded by enemies, sir.”

“Good answer, isn't that Captain Baek Ho?”

Nio had to be careful to remain polite in order to respond to his general questions in this army, but the answers he gave instead informed his true heart. He knew soldiers were trained to keep receiving what food they were getting, whether it was salty or tasteless at all.

The other officers seemed to like a little Nio's response to this room, even Angga smiled amusedly, “Your answer does show who you are, Lieutenant Nio. Please don't hold back.”

“I do appreciate every food you get, but I have a small stomach,” commented Nio.

Then, all the officers finished eating and drinking their drinks and came out one by one leaving Nio with Lee Baek Ho.

“Congratulations on the promotion you received, First Lieutenant Nio Candranala. Honestly, even though I'm fluent in Indonesian, but I have enough trouble saying your name.”

“Thanks, Captain.”

Nio was forced to stay in this place a little longer with Lee Baek Ho, even though he was sincerely optimistic that it should be so.

He already knew, without Baek Ho's congratulations, there would be an important matter they would discuss with his direct superior.

“Now, only you who have not received an explanation of your duties.”

“But, I'm a soldier, wherever I'm ordered to move, I'll take it.”

“This is for you. There are some soldiers that you can choose yourself to make subordinates.”

Baek Ho carefully took out a stack of papers containing the submissions of several soldiers interested in becoming members of the Reconnaissance and Battle Corps. Almost all came from the Indonesian contingent, and only a handful of Russian and North Korean contingents were interested in the corps. Nio felt that the soldiers who volunteered were capable people, and would make him think hard to choose 12 people from the hundreds of registrants who had not gotten the call.

Then, there is a letter that contains if Nio is free to choose the location of the placement.

“Given your achievements, the troops are not imposing anything on you. Choose which one you like.”

“So I can all choose? It was a difficult decision.”

Baek Ho seriously gave Nio some input from his thoughts. These are all the formalities of the two of them, but Baek Ho looks like an experienced officer giving advice to a young soldier eager to decide on his future career. Well, he already knew that Nio had a higher experience than him on the battlefield, yet again this was for the sake of formality.

Nio's head had contained some shadows regarding the matter that happened after he had led this team. Usually it would bother him, but he seemed to accept it with pleasure. And, it was unusual to see the extraordinary ability of someone so young, even 35-year-old Baek Ho had a feeling of admiration towards Nio.

“After choosing, we will form it as soon as possible, and you can be on duty immediately.”

According to the news, this corps contains soldiers who have general abilities that are at a higher level. For example, they had above average shooting abilities, were used to taking care of various types of poison, and great melee combat abilities. Many people said that Nio was suitable to fight on the front lines, and he saw for himself if their words were true. They said that Nio is very caring for his subordinates, his aggressive fighting style is a plus for the young man.

In essence, he was a casual, kind, and ambitious field officer. Surely he was willing to choose a few soldiers to become members and do his duty on the front line, which would not be easy.

He must govern them and establish his authority over them, as when leading the Cruiser Squad 1. Without the help of experienced hands, the tasks would be difficult, but Nio felt that this team was almost the same as his subordinates.

From the very beginning of the formation plan, the Reconnaissance and Battle Corps would contain special soldiers, with the most excellent equipment from the regular troops. If necessary, the logistics unit is ready to support it, and local informants have also been prepared to guide.

As for where the teams from the Reconnaissance and Battle Corps would be stationed, the north and west were the most dangerous places. The Holy Land is an infertile plain that now stretches across three countries, namely the Kingdom of Yekirnovo, the Luan Empire, and the Kingdom of Arevelk. The northern border was said to be quite close to a fortress that defended tens of thousands of Alliance Forces, while the western side was heavily guarded by Alliance soldiers. Indonesia's Special Region in the New World is a dangerous region on the north and west sides, as it borders the Holy Land controlled by the Luan Empire. However, the eastern and southern sides are the safest borders, as they border the allied countries, aka with Yekirnovo and Arevelk.

As much as possible border guard troops are sent in the safe zone, aka the area that is drawn 3 kilometers into the territory of the Special Region from the established border line. The troops only need to receive and make the best use of them, including the troops from Arevelk and Yekirnovo.

Nio got all this through his own efforts, and he should feel proud of all his achievements.

Most importantly, the young man did not let his officer position and special rights as a special forces personnel make him big head. He is a relaxed person and always open with the help he receives, but it makes him work harder and harder. For most officers higher than him, Nio was a rare officer.

**

Nio was one of the resident officers of this staff office, along with dozens of other soldiers who were preparing something. But unlike the people who with ten fingers typing keys on the keyboard and eyes that like can not be separated from the monitor screen, the, Nio was faced with a stack of papers containing the form of prospective personnel of the 12th Reconnaissance and Battle Corps.

He had to pick 12 people out of 300 who intended to be part of this particular corps, and it was no easy job. Some teams have performed the first task, and only the 12th team has not yet been formed and has not yet obtained the first task. The good news is that it doesn't matter, because they have a long time left in this other world.

Common sense will command the owner not to head to the front line full of unexpected things. However, the soldiers who are interested in becoming personnel of this corps as if to say, “Please take us to the front line, it seems like there is a beautiful place. Thank you”, and the salary they received despite having fought hard is still the same, and will not rise as long as the defense budget does not rise as well.

Nio thought that it would take him at least two to three days to determine who would be his team members and subordinates. But, he wanted to carry out the task as soon as possible rather than continue to be confined in this semi-finished fortress. He could imagine the enthusiastic faces of warriors who were interested in becoming personnel of this corps, he could even imagine the disappointed faces of those who were not chosen.

“Is this indeed the duty of the officer?” he groaned and complained to himself, and squeezed his head while slightly pulling his hair. It is not easy to get help now, because surely the people he wants to ask for help are busy with their respective jobs.

Rather than working indoors and continuing to stare at piles of paper and monitor screens with fingers pressing the keyboard keys, and seeing the same scene every day, the captain of the 12th Team of the Reconnaissance and Battle Corps, said the, First Lieutenant Nio Candranala, prefers to do fieldwork that requires him to travel around this world.

Nio was almost out of his mind, pondering anxiously at the pile of hundreds of papers before him. When he saw one of the staff was talking to his adjutant, he was reminded of someone who was recommended to be the first member in his team, and that was what made him expect to have first subordinates as well.

“Soldier One Anggita Nugroho Arumsari, reporting for duty.”

Chief Nio was really busy thinking about how much he needed a lot of people to help get his work done. And, in front of him stood a female soldier giving him respect according to protocol. He was one of the people recommended to be a member of his team. Then, Nio had met him several times face to face, because the girl in front of him was the son of his former superior in the Expeditionary Force.

The report of the girl who could be accosted by the call ’Gita’ made Nio pause for a moment, and he could only respond to the report of the girl with the usual. The girl reported to Nio for the first time, as well as the first time the two of them spoke. Nio raised his head towards the familiar face, and he realized that his face was almost cramped after replying to the child's report from Sucipto.

“Thank you, thank God you came on time,” Nio tried to be a considerate boss. But Nio did not think that having a female first subordinate would make her job easier.

“Ijin asked, am I accepted to be a member of the 12th Team?”

Nio had read through every requirement needed to become a member of the corps, and he had already checked the Gita's form which made the girl really potentially Nio's first subordinate. Then, the girl's question that goes straight to the point makes Nio quite aware of the Gita character.

After all, Nio only wished to have competent subordinates and make his work smooth. But, he did not expect at all if his first subordinate in the Peace Forces was the son of his own former superior.

“OK, Pratu Gita. Sorry before, but I want you to call these guys.”

Nio handed over a paper containing 25 lists of people along with his picture to Gita. Nio has no idea what activities Gita has done, but the girl looks ready to do the job from him.

“Siap. I'll search immediately and ask them to meet you.”

“Wait... Can I ask for another one?”

“Siap. Please.”

“We are both from Student Army, I want you to have a casual talk with me.”

Nio's request was happily accepted by Gita, although it made the girl a little uncomfortable with her father's former subordinates. He then saluted Nio according to protocol, and walked out of the staff room to carry out his first assignment from his superiors.

“Why are they here?”

Nio looked at several registrants, and they were people he knew other than the Gita and Liben. Of course Nio felt that they were potential members because they had undergone special forces education together.
