High School Soldier
Basic troublesome

“Barista to Undead. Enemy should have been near the river.”

The voice of ‘Barista’ aka Hassan was again heard in handsfree Nio, then ‘Life’ connected the call to all members of group 1 so they know the current situation. No one was in doubt with each other, although the origin of each of the 12th Team personnel of the Reconnaissance and Battle Corps varied. After all, the age of each person is not too far away, so it is quite easy to trust each other.

“I saw them. Keep your group at a distance with enemy units, Barista.”

The approaching enemy is seen through a thermal radiation detection device that is sent to a holo screen on the helmet of each member. Their movements are regular, but with a close-up that indicates that enemy forces are ready to be easy targets, at least according to 12th Team sniper Cyzarine Zefanya.

The whole person was silent and tried not to move suddenly, so that it was unknown to the enemy who was now only forty meters away from the river bank. On the other side of the river, group 1 was already looking forward to welcoming them.

They were young soldiers who possessed talent and character that the majority of regular soldiers did not, and most importantly, together with Nio ‘Living Life’ they feel that high level of luck always accompanies despite always dealing with a large number of enemies. They are led by warriors who have gone through deadly battles. He could not even die even though hundreds of enemy monster soldiers challenged him to a fight back then. Together with Nio who had returned from the fight with a survival rate of less than 1 percent, the members of Team 12 felt able to overcome impossible obstacles.

The name code Nio gave them symbolized Nio's trust in his members, although he had no special conditions for the code. ‘Life’ is one of the heroes according to his subordinates now, but Nio does not want the title of hero for him. According to him, the struggle on the battlefield of this world is still too light than the struggle of the previous hero. However, the respect given by the unit by the soldiers returning home from the bloody fight back then was as a sense of awe to the actual soldiers who fought while stepping over the bodies of their friends and enemies.

Nio was the most experienced member among the 12th Team personnel in terms of combat. Therefore, all his subordinates trusted him to give orders to them, as well as making him a friend at rest. Because with Nio, they felt that they would be fine when facing the enemy.

“Where is the main unit of the enemy?”

Nio was behind a rock four meters from the riverbank where he and group 1 were. Enemies and group 2 are on the opposite side, and are seen constantly moving closer to the river and the effective kill zone. The thermal radiation emitted by the bodies of enemy soldiers was seen to be constantly moving in red in the hundreds and marching lengthwise which made it difficult to estimate the main unit of the enemy.

While the thermal radiation emitted by the members of group 2 continues to move in blue, and their movements are expected to be unconscious of the enemy. Group 2 watched the movements of the enemy soldiers numbering in the hundreds from the side of their ranks, silently and not making any suspicious sounds.

Simultaneously when he heard the sound of the river flow, Hassan saw the blue thermal radiation belonging to group 1. They are seen watching the enemy from various points, with formations that will make their fire zones wider than the enemy ranks.

To fight an enemy that numbered less than one hundred and fifty soldiers, a comparable or greater pond power was indispensable. However, special units are trained to kill identified enemies effectively without excessive ammunition consumption. If necessary, martial or close combat is carried out.

The right side of the enemy ranks contained two squads that numbered forty SP1 armed soldiers, and group 2 was watching them while moving silently. The river bank drew closer, and the entire member set up the rifle in a single round mode with the silencer installed. The greater number of enemies would only be a dire situation on paper, but on the field would be a regular fight according to the members of the 12th Team.

“This is easier than we thought. Why did Mr Rio order us to be careful and bring four platoons?”

Their mission is to infiltrate quietly to attack the small villages that stand around Girinhi Fortress. If there is chaos in the villages, then some units of Arevelk troops on the fort will certainly move to ensure the situation. That's when the number of troops in the fort will decrease and make the main troops who are still on their way can attack freely.

Now, the Alliance Special Platoon wears new field uniforms like soldiers during the first world war. With green as the color of the majority of the clothes and pants, as well as boots made of animal skin, then that's their new appearance. Self-protection is now being replaced with a thinner and stronger metal armour plate, and only protects important parts such as the chest to the abdomen, and the back to the back of the neck. The helmets they used were still made of metal, but were made like military helmets during the second world war.

All of their new equipment and appearances were of course at the suggestion of the Angry Hero. He believes that even though his army looks like an army in the ancient world war, developments will continue to occur so that his army will look like a modern army with better weapons than SP1.

“Propositions, enemy troops patrol this forest,”

One of the platoon commanders said so after their agents provided such information before the departure of one hundred and thirty-eight Special Platoon Alliance soldiers to attack nearby villages.

“However, he didn't tell us the number of enemies, did he?” connect one of his subordinates.

The soldiers who received the brief training had been equipped with basic modern combat science, although they were not trained to deal with guerrilla fighting. That way, their combat capabilities began to increase after the failed attack incident of the capital of Arevelk Kingdom. They felt that the enemy was already unable to underestimate them now.

Of all the types of upgrades they had obtained, the fact that the Alliance Special Platoon remained unable to match the enemy's combat capabilities and weapons that were far better than theirs still made it difficult for them to boast. They might be able to boast before the other Alliance forces that were not yet equipped with rifles and had to fight using arrows and swords, but they were an army that was easily crippled.

“Damn it! Sudden attack!”

A bullet went through the shoulder of one of the soldiers, but they heard no gunfire at all.

One of the Alliance soldiers who was hit by the gunfire continued to shout until both of his cheeks were moistened by his own tears.

One of his colleagues held him back from moving much, while another of his friends tore his sleeve and wrapped it around the injured part. That's all they do to hold the bleeding. There was no serious threat to his life, but the soldier was already severely injured and could be assured of not being able to continue the fight for now.

Fortunately, after the first surprise attack there was no longer any sign of the enemy attacking again. They heard absolutely no gunfire, and finding the enemy among the dense trees and shrubs was extremely difficult, so the commander of each platoon felt it would be very difficult to defeat the hiding enemies.

“Commander!”

One of the soldiers shouted after seeing the commander of one of the platoons fall down with his head spitting out blood. Although the helmet used was capable of withstanding sword slashes, spear swings, and dart slashes, the projectile capable of traveling at an infinite speed could not be anticipated. The bullet penetrated the commander's head despite being protected by a steel helmet and made for him an instant death.

There were already two soldiers who were subdued by the enemy's silent attack. All the remaining commanders decided to order their soldiers to hide behind trees or a safe place to avenge the enemy's attack which was somehow hiding where. Fortunately, when dispersed to seek shelter, the enemy did not launch a sudden attack again. Some of the soldiers instantly fired several shots in response once they got shelter.

Some of them advanced until they were in the middle of a river that was not so swift and only knee deep, while aiming and trying to find a hiding enemy. They are fully aware that being in the middle of the river flow will result in stunted movement, but the commanding officer to move in order to find the point of enemy firing should they carry out.

Unfortunately, their actions moving in the open only made them enter the kill zone that their enemies created

In order to aim freely, Zefanya accidentally took off her helmet, and entrusted a protective shot to Nio and his comrades. As soon as he saw a different costumed enemy figure, his white index finger pulled the trigger and fired a 7.65mm projectile at a speed of 1,800 meters per second. Less than a blink of an eye, an enemy soldier instantly collapsed. Zefanya's shot missed, and only hit the shoulder of one of the Alliance's soldiers.

“You managed to kill one of them?” nio asked as soon as he saw one of the Alliance soldiers fall down and thrash around.

“Sorry, it turns out that my shot only hit the shoulder of one of them, Lieutenant,” Zefanya replied with an annoyed face.

With a pause of a few seconds, Nio decided to take off his helmet in order to see more clearly. A moment later, he saw Zefanya shoot again, then chaos was created again on the enemy side. An enemy soldier less than twenty meters away was instantly killed by targeting the head, and Nio could see it clearly.

“They are stupid or what, anyway?” Nio spoke like that after the thirty Alliance soldiers tried to cross the river while aiming in all directions vigilantly.

But, that way, they had entered into the natural trap that group 1 had obtained.

Nio reattached handsfree in his right ear, then spoke to the rest of the members, “Group 1, shoot the enemy in the river. Group 2, shoot enemies closest to you first.”

Nio's brief instructions were obeyed by the rest of group 1, and everyone aimed at the designated target and pulled their trigger.

Group 1 started shooting at the thirty Alliance soldiers who were in the middle of the stream in front of them. Calmly they shot and thought nothing of pity towards the enemy. Still the enemy has modern weapons despite only getting short training and parachuted into battle without sufficient supplies.

The attack without warning resulted in most of them being unable to return fire, although they could only shoot at tree trunks and obscure targets, then remain downed with several projectiles penetrating the body. Although they could see a flash of fire at some point, the enemy's attack was so quick and did not give them time to retaliate. The fellow thirty Alliance soldiers who had previously been so confident and calm were in the middle of the stream that it was clearly very hindering their movements put on an expression of fear with pale faces.

A portion of the units behind them tried to counter-fire, but the enemy's hideout was so hard to find. As a result, they were unable to protect their comrades who were trapped in the stream and were being showered with projectiles by their enemies. Some projectiles do indeed hit behind trees or rocks that become enemy shelters, but that does not make the enemy stop the slaughter of their trapped colleagues and are unable to retaliate.

In less than five minutes, the thirty Alliance Special Platoon personnel who were in the middle of the river could be finished off by group 1. Dozens of bodies were floating, the blood coming out of the shot place changed the color of the river water to red. Metal armor was not heavy enough to make them sink. The rifle sank to the bottom of the now murky river as a result of the mud and blood of the unfortunate Alliance soldiers.

Group 1 members quickly switched positions to fight other enemy units, but some of the enemy soldiers were aware of their movements. A few footsteps from them raised a suspicious sound, so some Alliance soldiers pointed the barrel of the rifle towards the sound. However, they are trained to move quickly and the speed of thinking determines a safe place to hide.

Meanwhile, group 2 fired at several members of the enemy squad twenty meters away from them. The sudden attack was noticed by several soldiers, because one of the shots made a sound. The sound of gunfire was also heard by Nio who was still across the river where group 2 was. Group 2 fire was temporarily halted, as several enemy soldiers moved in to search for the shooter.

Some Alliance soldiers aimed the shotgun towards the shot while aiming and searching for the position of the enemy that was firing earlier. They moved closer and closer to the members of group 2 who forgot to do something so that the supposedly silent attack became known to the enemy.

“Arif, did you forget to install the silencer?!” asked Nio in a pretty angry tone.

Author aka Arif heard Nio's words from his handsfree with a nervous face and a jakun who moved due to gulping saliva.

“Quick plug your silencer! Didn't you see the enemy approaching towards you?!” now Hassan's voice is heard from Arif's handsfree, and it sounds really upset with his negligence. If Nio and Hassan had already let out their irritation, Arif could imagine what would happen to him after the battle was over.

Several enemy soldiers released projectiles leading to the hideout of the group 2 members, fortunately their attacks entirely missed, hitting the branch or tree trunk, thus only surprising the members of the unit and making them alert. Group 2 retaliated, but quickly took cover behind trees or rocks.

The entire Alliance Special Platoon army conducted scattered fire with imaginary targets, in the hopes of some projectiles hitting or at least injuring the enemy. One of their colleagues who had previously been exposed to the projectile lesion released by the enemy finally did not move, with the eye condition remains open but without breath inhaled or expelled. The blood coming out of his shoulder did not continue to come out, and made first aid useless. However, the enemy had already slaughtered many of their comrades, so the resistance could not be stopped rather than grieving in the middle of the fight.

“Hey, the agents say the number of enemy soldiers is not too much. But why can they kill so many of our friends?!”

“Obviously the enemy has more troops than the agents expected. Otherwise, they couldn't possibly put up a match this great!”

“Why has the commander not ordered us to retreat?!”

“What are you doing?! Their opponents or enemies will be even more arbitrary!” said one of the commanders.

They were not equipped by military magicians, whereas they desperately needed shield magic in order to be able to move back safely. The enemy is not only fighting from the front side, but also the right side which results in a two-sided fight. It would be better if the entire army divided into two groups to face the two-sided resistance that the enemy gave. They may be desperate, but they can put up a good fight when the enemy attacks stealthily and quietly.

A third platoon that served as an aid unit faced the enemy attacking from the right side, and failed to get the position of the enemy soldiers who did not hide themselves well. In the condition that one by one their comrades are uprooted by enemy attacks, help is always ready to face the enemy to help the main unit, even if they have to face the enemy the longest. They must have been tired of the enemy fighting quietly and unknown existence, they could only defend the didi as individuals and could not fight as a unit.

“Commander, the enemy across the river is seen, one of them moves clearly,” one of the first platoon soldiers reports to his superiors who are fighting.

“Sial, the worst enemy always appears in bad times,” said the first platoon commander while continuing to shoot at enemies who only look flash fire without showing their true form. The enemy was already too comfortable slaughtering his soldiers, the severity of the enemy was not seen at all even moving a lot to counterattack them.

“How many enemies are moving? They don't seem to move at all,” said the first platoon commander again.

“Only one, and move with nimble!”

A loud explosion shook the forest that was now a battlefield. Soil and smoke spread after an explosion that is not yet known who caused it. However, group 2 and group 1 must have known who could carry out such reckless attacks.

The two unfortunate Alliance soldiers did not have time to dodge the explosion of the grenade thrown by Nio. As a result, pieces of their protective metal and blood and flesh were scattered in the air, with diffuse gray smoke covering the field of view. Simultaneously, Nio moved between the puff of smoke in a quick and agile motion, and his index finger pulled the trigger to open fire in semi-automatic mode.

“Why in the middle of this smoke I can still see clearly?” Nio himself was still astonished by what had happened to him.

He could see an enemy covered in thick gray smoke as if he were looking at someone in a bright room. However, he did not allow himself to be fixated on the confusion, and jumped to the side to dodge the shots of the three enemy soldiers.

He deliberately crossed the river to give the impact of greater fire on the enemy, as well as providing support to group 2 which previously one of its members made a little mistake that harmed himself and the other members.

He looked at the ten Alliance soldiers who were sheltering behind the bush, and put up a fight against group 1. Without a second thought, he ran from his shelter and caused some of them to know his movements.

“Ho-hoi, she.. she's there!” one of the soldiers who knew of Nio's movements immediately informed his other nine comrades.

“Focus a shot on that guy!” said the second platoon commander who knew that his members had managed to find one enemy soldier.

Nio ran while raising his rifle and fired several shots in single-shot mode. Likewise with the enemy, they shot spread out in hopes of hitting and finishing off the very open Nio. They only smiled when they saw Nio facing them in an open battle.

Because the rifle was too disruptive to its movement due to its size and weight (after plus the silencer), Nio slid it behind his back, then pulled the gun out of its scabbard. A brave Alliance soldier came out from hiding, and ran after Nio. He must have thought that if he managed to kill one of the enemy soldiers, then obtain his weapon, then his degree would rise very easily and could replace the current commander of the Alliance Special Platoon.

Knowing an enemy soldier was chasing him, Nio raised his semi-automatic pistol with his right hand and started shooting him in single-round mode. However, his shot was quickly avoided by the soldier by jumping in all directions randomly. Some of the 9mm projectiles Nio fired did miss, but one of the projectiles pierced the head of one of the Alliance soldiers.

The Alliance Army that was chasing after Nio raised its SP1, then fired several projectiles towards Nio who was running in front of him. Three of his comrades rose from their hiding and opened fire of support.

Seeing the enemy soldiers chasing him getting help, Nio shot at them precisely.

“O-oy, why is the first platoon commander chasing the enemy army?”

A surprised tone from one of the Alliance soldiers could be heard by Nio, then he shot the man in the head in one try. Previously, Nio felt that the enemy soldiers chasing him were only subordinate soldiers.

“Thanks for the info,” Nio said as he opened fire on two Alliance soldiers who shot him while the first platoon commander was still chasing him.

No one expected that one of the Guild soldiers would be able to kill several of their comrades alone, and manage to escape the assault of the projectiles they fired.

Nio who chose to rest his SS20 G2 and choose to use a small weapon in the form of a gun certainly has an advantage in movement, he said, yet on paper he had no hope of winning against the less than one hundred remaining enemy soldiers. Unfortunately, Nio had the thought that as the commander of a unit, both large units and units on a team scale of less than thirty soldiers, he still had to serve as a protector of his subordinates, whatever way he'll use it. He felt his subordinates could not forbid him from doing the fight he wanted, even though he had to lure the enemy in the enemy's defensive line directly and openly.

His role was as a skilled person in close combat even among his members, as well as disturbing the coordination of the enemy is the thing he is most interested in by eliminating enemy soldiers who are considered to have influence in an army.

Nio has a habit of targeting vital areas of his opponent's body, especially the head and chest. However, he was not a sniper, and the pistol did not have a level of accuracy surpassing that of an assault rifle. The two shots he fired against the two enemy soldiers were expected to hit their vital parts. However, each projectile hits their shoulders and abdomen. However Nio remained satisfied as long as his attack was able to make the enemy unable to fight anymore.

It was the way of fighting and the tactics he learned from the previous war, but the reckless nature he gained came from the battles that sacrificed many of the previous Indonesian soldiers.

Seeing Nio fighting in the midst of the enemy raid made several members of Team 12 smile. They feel they have ‘Life’ leading and protecting them even in an unreasonable way.

He ran from the pursuit of one of the enemy commanders, and fired at several Alliance soldiers shrewdly. After his gun did not take out any more projectiles, Nio quickly replaced the magazine in less than three seconds while running. As he ran from the pursuit of the enemy commander and finished off several enemy soldiers, his calm gaze brought death to those who blocked his path.

“Hmmm?”

Nio muttered like that as one of the enemy soldiers blocked his escape path while pointing the bayonet towards his stomach. Without a second thought Nio shot the man in the head.

However, it only made his distance with the enemy commander even closer, and eventually the two of them came face to face.

“Aaaaarrrhh!!!~” the man shouted in hopes of Nio's fighting spirit descending.

A moment later, the first platoon commander raised his bayonet-mounted rifle, then three projectiles were fired towards Nio's body. However, Nio immediately lowered his head and jumped forward. Seeing Nio leaping to the back of his body, the first platoon commander flipped his rifle towards the back then shot Nio without turning his body. However, Nio was still able to avoid it with agile movements.

While jumping to avoid a shot from one of the enemy commanders, Nio pulled out his knife and clasped it firmly in his left hand. With a flash of movement, Nio thrust his knife into the left shoulder of the enemy commander twice to make the man shout again as before.

“You bastard...!”

He again raised his rifle, but before he pulled the trigger, his opponent had been standing in front of him.

With a very fast movement, Nio's left hand slashed both of his opponent's hands to drop the rifle he was holding. After which, he injured the face of one of the enemy commanders in a single slash until the man shouted much louder than before.

“Everything, protect our stupid Lieutenant!” yelled Gita until all members of Team 12 heard her loud voice from handsfree each, except Nio.

They shot at the enemy coming out of their shelter just to fight a Nio. Nio's nimble movements made them fret, and fear that stray bullets would occur.

Hendra crept towards Ardi who was sheltering behind a bush while shooting at the enemy though inaccurately.

“Hey, I'm out of bullets,” said Hendra.

“Sial, do not wastefully can not?” Ardi replied in an annoyed tone and gave one magazine that was still fully filled.

After Hendra reloads his magazine and makes a rifle in semi-automatic mode, the two of them shoot the enemy soldiers to kill some of them while keeping the shots from hitting Nio.

“She is too brave to stand with weak defense.”

The Zefanya kneeled behind the bush while aiming at one of the enemy soldiers standing while aiming at Nio who was running fast among the trees. When Zefanya pulled the trigger of her light sniper rifle, in less than half a blink of an eye, the enemy soldiers who had fallen prey to Zefanya were killed with hollow heads so fast the slashes of projectiles fired.

The two enemy comrades he killed looked confused and appeared to be rising from behind a bush. Zefanya quickly pulled the trigger and killed them one by one.

“Supposedly they learned to fight in the middle of the forest. But, what did Lieutenant actually think until fighting so openly like that, was troublesome.” complained Zefanya after pulling the trigger to kill one of the enemy soldiers again.

On the other hand, Hassan moved from hiding to get closer to the main enemy unit that continued to shower its members with their 7.62mm projectiles. However, when a few steps he left his place, an enemy soldier suddenly appeared from behind a tree. The two put on the same shocked face, although Hassan was wearing a helmet that covered his face. They both pulled the trigger together, but Hassan was a few seconds faster and managed to kill his opponent before he was injured.

Seeing his fallen comrade, one of the Alliance soldiers pulled the trigger of his rifle while aiming at Hassan. Seeing the enemy pointing his rifle muzzle at him, Hassan immediately jumped behind a nearby tree as protection. The trunk of the tree that he made shelter in the gunfire for a few seconds until his opponent spent one magazine just to shoot a tree trunk.

Hassan quickly retaliated against his enemy who was still in the process of loading the magazine, and subverted it. The fellow soldier he killed laughed seeing his comrade snuffed out in two shootouts and said, “May also you!”. However, Hassan was also able to kill the soldier before he pulled the trigger.

Their fate as soldiers is to be sent to an unknown place, ordered to face an enemy whose strength and manner of fighting have not been learned, treated like a tool that can be replaced by a new one after being damaged or destroyed.

Once the number of their comrades killed exceeded the prescribed limit, they could only conclude that victory in this battle was unattainable, and their goal was unattainable.

Quickly, the entire remaining Alliance army dropped their respective weapons with a resigned face.
