Love Lightning Old Virgin

Love Lightning Old Virgin
Chapter XIII

After this fun activity, Miss Dior took the girl to the Pump Room, and was lucky enough to meet Mrs Cheltenham there, a pleasant woman with whom Miss Dior was good friends, and is the mother of two beautiful older girls exactly the same age as Cherry and one son, who is currently in Lyon. The two girls were with their mother, and Miss Dior did not waste any time introducing Cherry to Madame Stinchcombe, and was immediately satisfied to see the three young women chattering noisily, and was soon satisfied, with an attitude that shows that they will most likely establish a close friendship. Mrs Cheltenham tends to accept any girl who gets Miss Dior's help, and says about the trio of girls with friendly smiles, “How boisterous they are. Does Miss Constantine live with you?”

“He came to visit me, and I hope he can stay for a few weeks,” Miss Dior said.

“He was orphaned, and had been living in Cheltenham with his aunt, who had looked after him by having him pinched too tightly. Never been out, of course. But, I think it's very important for girls to know how to apply in society before it gets thrown into high society, and I'm sure I can persuade her aunt to allow her to try new things at Rouen before she's introduced.”

Mrs Cheltenham nodded, “That's a shame! I like to observe how often girls, as you properly express, are plunged directly from school into high society, destroying their chances with too much shame, which causes them to become silent, or worse be disrespectful in an effort to appear to the expected standards, as the saying goes. You should take your students to the little party I host for my daughters on Thursday: very informal.”

Miss Dior thanked him and accepted the invitation, thinking, rather regretfully, that she was forcing herself to attend the kind of party she thought was very boring. Another thought sprang to his mind, which he found embarrassing: he became an old woman guarding young girls. It was a demeaning thought, but since he had not reached the age of thirty, and did not see the reduced number of admirers, he did not let the thought suppress him. And, she got her reward when Cherry approached her, the girl's eyes lit up like the stars and said, “Oh, Miss Dior, Stonehenge has invited me to the party on Thursday! Can I go to the party? Please, don't say I can't!”

“Maybe, if you're being so kind, I won't say so,” Miss Dior replied seriously.

“Actually, I just received a kind invitation from Mrs Cheltenham for both of us.” Cherry laughed, but immediately turned to thank Mrs Stinchcombe, and did so in such a pleasant manner that Mrs Cheltenham then told Caroline the boy's antics were in keeping with her pretty face.

Along the way up the hill to Versailles, Cherry is excited by the promised party, and is thrilled to have met her (thanks to her dearest Miss Dior!) people who are so charming and so very friendly like Miss Stonehenge Stinchcombe. Edith Cheltenham is also a lot of fun, though not yet free from school: and about Mrs Stinchcombe, can Miss Dior imagine a more indulgent or better parent for any girl to have? According to the confessions of her daughters, their mother always understood exactly how her daughters felt, and never hurt them. It's so different from Aunt Mirela's friends! Just imagine, his mother allowed Stonehenge to go shopping, as long as Edith or their brother, accompanied, without being escorted by Edith's nanny! Not that Miss Jamien is in the least bit like Miss Bruno who doesn't need to be mourned, who has helped the aunt make Cherry's life a positive burden for her!

“Stonehenge says Miss Jamien is so loving and so carefree that she and Edith love it when she goes out with them. Oh, and Stonehenge said, Madam, that he knew of a shop in Parc Asterix where we could buy half-priced wallets cheaper than those sold at Omaha Beach, and he said he'd take me there if you don't mind!” Miss Dior, who responded appropriately to these secret stories, realized she would be bored for the rest of Cherry's stay with the caption What Stonehenge Says.

The next night, much to their surprise, Archard walked into the living room, announced that he had taken his carriage to Cherry, and had handed the carriage over to be taken care of by the butler. The young man looked alert and excited and ready to fight with determination, and it was clear he had a strong feeling that he had been mistreated.

“Oh, Archard?” Cherry exclaims.

“How good are you! I never thought I'd get that train so fast! But you don't have to make yourself bother bringing the train to me!”

“Oh, yes, it is necessary,” he said grimly.

“No, no, Camile could have taken the train without having to be escorted.”

“Well, he can't, because he's not there. How bad it is that I've been talking about commotion and excitement! And, why should my mom be so nervous when they all know you weren't murdered or kidnapped because they know I'm going with you? It just makes me surprised!”

“You mean, Camile is not here?!” shout Cherry.

“That's exactly what I meant. She and your aunt quarreled because your aunt was so angry, and scolded her as usual by saying that she was guilty of ignoring you I didn't know the rest, which she obviously felt offended, ' he said, and evoke memories of all sorts of old aggravations, and as a result he packed his bag, then left with an overwhelming feeling of anger.” Archard saw, with displeasure, that Cherry was walking back and forth in the room with overflowing excitement, then added, in a loud tone, “You may think it was exhilarating, you may think it was exhilarating, but I don't, really!”

“Oh, I am indeed happy!” cherry said, taking regular steps, and clapping.

“If you had known how scared I was looking forward to Camile's arrival!” Miss Dior cut off the conversation back then, to ask Archard if she had eaten dinner. The young man thanked him, and said he had. He had stopped to eat on the street, and could not stay more than a few minutes because the night was getting late, and he had not taken care of lodging in Rouen.

“That's why I need your advice, Madam,” he said.

“Do you mean to stay in Rouen?”

“Ya,” replied Archard, through grinding teeth.

“Indeed! That will prove to them!”

Before Cherry could ask for an explanation for this rather obscure remark, there was a snap dive from Anash, who entered with a tray of tea dishes. Subsequent talks were suspended: and when Archard had drunk two cups of tea, and eaten some sweet biscuits, he said, his overflowing hatred subsided allowing him to tell women stories of the trials he had endured because of the actions of his beloved relatives.
