Love Lightning Old Virgin

Love Lightning Old Virgin
CHAPTER LII

Archard said goodbye as soon as dinner ended, and Cherry, after maintaining what she believed was a dignified silence, but one that was very similar to a childish sulking attitude, said the statement, until he realized no one was paying attention to him, go to bed before the tea dishes were brought in.

“Excellent horn acts, gosh!” miss Harrow said, with an irritating stifled laugh. “Of course, I know how this will happen from the moment I see it! I told you at the beginning”

“You've said more than enough, Belevia!” cut Miss Dior. “I consider you entirely guilty of Cherry's aggravation, and I'm not surprised she became angry, and gave you a rude speech! No, don't start again because my patience is over to listen!”

Miss Harrow began to cry, and explained among her sobs that it was her genuine affection for Caroline that had caused her to offend him.

“Not that I meant to offend you, but seeing you taken advantage of is a hard thing to bear!” Seeing that Caroline was not at all calm, Grand Madam Dior intervened, and went to great lengths to appease Miss Harrow's wounded and successful feelings so that Miss Harrow immediately stopped crying, received a cup of tea, and did so, agreeing to her headache, and allowing herself to be persuaded to rest in bed.

“You're really a magician, honey!” caroline said, as soon as Miss Harrow had left. “You can't imagine how much I thank you! I almost gave him a hardship that I believe he never received in his entire life!”

“Yes, I can see you will do it,” Big Lady Dior replied, smiling a little.

“Of course he shouldn't say what he said to Cherry, but someone can't stop feeling sorry for him.”

“I can easily stop feeling pity.”

“No, you just said that because he irritated you. Poor Belevia! He's so jealous of Cherry! I thought he felt Cherry had offended him, and he was one of those who wanted to be noticed to know he was appreciated. And, when she thinks you value Cherry much more than you value her, it makes her very jealous, then she says stupid things that she doesn't really mean.”

“As say Cherry utilize me.”

“Yes, making it up, of course. Cherry is just a spoiled child.” He paused, hesitated for a moment, then said in a regretful tone, “Will you be angry with me if I say I really think you've spoiled him a little?”

“No, how can I get angry?” caroline said, sighing.

“I've realized it myself. You see, she's been guarded very closely by her aunt, never allowed to go to parties, or befriend people she chose herself, she said, and it was never beyond the supervision of a nanny that I decided as much as I could to compensate for the sad times she had experienced since her mother died. You can't imagine the satisfaction I felt when I saw her overflowing excitement towards things that other girls considered ordinary entertainment. I guess I should have expected that to make him a little haughty. You'd say I should have also predicted that escorting a girl who was feisty and very beautiful was no easy task to carry on. I have a suspicion Mr. Constantine has a point when he says I'm not a person who deserves to assume responsibility for his niece.”

“He was disrespectful and ungrateful to say that, but I must admit I thought it was true. I really hope he will put the girl under the care of others.”

“Well, you can be calm 'cause that's what he's gonna do. The purpose of coming here today was to tell me that. I haven't told Cherry. I was afraid that she would be strongly opposed to being kept away from me, so I let her uncle pass the news to her. If the girl runs away, as she will most likely do, she can even run away with Damitri Mr. Constantine who will bear her responsibility, and not me.”

“Oh, I hope the girl won't do something that stupid!” said Big Madam Dior, in a very confident voice.

“I understand you don't want to give up the girl, but you have to remember, honey, you will definitely lose her when she is introduced next spring, and the longer she stays with you, the longer she stays with you, you'll realize it's getting harder to part with her. So, don't let yourself be made moody, huh?”

“Jeez, no! I would miss her of course because she was such a charming girl, and I already felt sorry for her, but to be honest, Majorie, I did realize the task of keeping her was becoming a bit more annoying than I had previously thought. If Mr. Constantine could find, among his relatives, someone not only willing to accept him in his family, but someone Cherry would be happy to stay with until the time of his introduction, I will be very satisfied to release the boy into his responsibilities.”

The girl was visibly crying, and although Caroline did not want to see any emotional scene that day, she was unable to resist the girl. Miss Dior smiled, and stretched out her hand, saying, “No, don't do that. Elle just finished preparing the bed for me. Thank you, Elle! I won't need you anymore, so I'll say good night to you.”

Elle stepped away, firmly urging Cherry not to keep Miss Caroline awake for hours, “Because she was so tired, as anyone could see! And, not surprisingly! Ruckus everywhere at his age!”

“At my age?” caroline exclaimed, with a laughable look of shock. “Elle, damn you, I'm not senile!”

“You are old enough to be wise not to have fun from morning to night, Mistress,” Elle said unsettledly. “The next thing that will happen is we will see people say you are a person who likes to wander!”

This made Miss Dior suddenly laugh, which resulted in her harshest critic exiting the room, while saying gloomily, “Take my word!”

“I wonder, which words should I say?” miss Dior said, still laughing.

“She wants to say you're so exhausted from taking me around, and oh, dear Miss Dior, I never meant to make you tired!” assertively Cherry, with sobbing.

“Cherry, you fool! How can you be so far-fetched? Well, how old do you think I am? Be careful how you answer, because just so you know, you and Elle have made me feel like I'm near death, and if anyone else dares to tell me I look old and have a bad face, I'll laugh out loud!”
