Love Lightning Old Virgin

Love Lightning Old Virgin
CHAPTRE L

It took a long time before Miss Dior was able to recover some of her composure, and it still took much longer before she could try to overcome the tangle of her mind. Never before had he been faced with any question relating to his life that made him have any difficulty in answering, he said, and he was so irritated that the proposal of Mr. Constantine to shake his peace of mind so severely that it was impossible for him to consider the question with such a calm judgment that until now he had always been proud. The hardest question he ever faced was whether to move away from the Chateau or not, and carve out his own life path. However, when he recalled how he felt about this incident, he knew the only difficulty he had in doubt was his instinctive reluctance to offend his older brother, or to hurt his meek wife. He never had any doubts about his own feelings nor about the wisdom of his final decision. He also never experienced the slightest displeasure that bothered his mind when he had rejected many of the proposals addressed to him, although some of them were as he remembered them, with a smile in an alluring heart was very flattering. Blessed with beauty, impeccable bloodline, and immense wealth, Miss Dior suddenly became popular among the top in her first season, and could be, at this time, a, he has married the heir of a land if he is content to marry for the sake of gaining high standing, and let love be forgotten. However, he did not feel very satisfied, and he never regretted his decision to reject the proposal of a young Marquis. Arthur, of course, was very surprised, and had expected his sister to die a spinster.

That sad possibility is not at all worried about Miss Dior's day. He felt very confident, with his financial condition very sufficient, it would be much better to remain single than to marry a man to whom he felt nothing but ordinary liking. He still believed in it, but he realized there was nothing mediocre about his feelings for Mr. Constantine.

Never before had a man had such power to turn his emotions from a very bad feeling to a very good feeling, making him feel at one time resenting him, and the next time he liked it so much for the sake of his peace of mind. It is easy enough to understand why he often hates the man, it is almost impossible to know what is in the man that makes him feel if the man goes his life will be empty. While trying to solve this mystery, Miss Dior remembered Lord Constantine asking her not to ask why the man loved her because he did not know and Miss Dior wondered if it was love? A person may fall in love with a beautiful face, but it is only a momentary feeling. Something more than that is needed to awaken eternal love within a person, a mysterious force that forges a strong connection between two people with similar feelings. He felt that kind of connection, and could not doubt that Mr. Constantine felt it as well, but as to why that relationship should be created between them, he was completely unable to find the answer. They will forever be at odds, whereas wouldn't a proper couple not quarrel? Shouldn't there never be a difference of opinion between them? As soon as he asked this question to himself, he thought beyond his will, “A drab move later!” Imagining himself and Mr. Constantine living together in perfect harmony made him laugh softly, and it suddenly occurred to him that it would also make the man laugh if it did not make him say, “How sickening it!” which, most likely, will happen.

Miss Dior had begged him not to demand an answer from her until she had time to consider this matter Miss Dior had told the man the action the man had asked her to do was too great to be done by someone without careful consideration. It was true: and though he had said it, the realization came to his mind that it was not his feelings that required consideration, but rather other more worldly matters that would arise if he married Lord Constantine. They may be relatively unimportant people, but they are, in their position, quite important people. Most important among those things was the realization that her brother would be strongly opposed to the marriage. Her brother will do everything in his power to prevent her from marrying a man who is not only hated by her, but also resolutely opposed by her. Her brother won't make it, but it's possible that she could cut off all ties between her family and Miss Dior's family: and that's likely what the woman finds difficult to deal with. Miss Dior has prepared herself, because she knows her brother and he will continue to irritate each other, she said, but he has been careful to do so without hurting his feelings by pointing out the real reason for his move from the Chateau. They cannot live together in a good relationship, but they are bound by a loving family relationship, and although this relationship may be strained, she knows she will be very sad if the relationship is broken.

One cannot easily cut off the relationship from his family. And, if Arthur did break with him, it would have been bad for Mr. Constantine, and it would have been very difficult to bear the consequences. Then there is the question of having to give up his freedom, totally change his life, as Mr. Constantine himself said, giving in to the man's judgment, and how would he know the man proved not to be a tyrant in the household? He certainly has an autocratic tendency. However, then he recalled how much the man had quite unexpectedly grasped very well his chaotic mind, and with sympathetic pity the man had refrained from urging him to give an answer, and Miss Dior decided that no matter how autocratic the man might express his opinion, he was not a tyrant.

By this time, he had reached a point where he was forced to admit that he was in love with Mr. Constantine, but for reasons unknown. He thought, in disgust, that he was behaving like a silly school girl, and that it was great that the man was leaving. Perhaps Miss Dior will realize she remains happy without the man, which would be a sure sign that she is not in love, but just an exaggerated feeling of liking. So, the wisest thing he could do was to remove the man from his mind.

However, in reality, he kept thinking about the man until Elle came to tell him aloud there were only ten minutes left until dinner time arrived, and if he doesn't ride to change clothes immediately, he'll be late. “It's not like you, Miss Caroline! Half an hour full I've been waiting for you!”

Miss Dior said in a guilty tone that she had been too busy all day to pay attention to time, putting her completely unworked financial statements into a drawer, she said, and obediently went upstairs with her firm accomplices. Attempts to prevent Elle from weeding her gleaming hair, and pinning it back, failed. “I have some self-esteem to consider, Madam, and allow you to go down with hair that looks like you just got back through the bushes, never will I do!” said Elle.

Thus, ten minutes passed after the dinner bell rang as Miss Dior hurried down to the living room, where she found her guests patiently waiting. Miss Dior apologized, saying, with her sweet smile, “I'm really sorry, Majorie! It's rude to have you waiting! I was busy this whole afternoon, and didn't notice how much time just passed. I was making my financial records, and there were a number of calculations that I constantly miscalculated.”

“Oh, and I'm bothering you, aren't you, dear Caroline?” exclaimed Miss Harrow with great regret. “I'm sure it's no surprise you can't continue your money tally! The only thing that's surprising is that you'll be able to count them, because I could never do it. I'm sure you'd be very amused if I told you the ridiculous mistake I made in the summation. Even so, you were distracted when I suddenly came to you, which, I hope you know me well enough to believe I would never have done if I knew you were receiving a guest.”

“Yes, Mr Constantine is coming to visit,” Miss Dior said calmly. “Goodnight, Archard!”

Sir, young Blanchet for the first time wore a new and nice pair of Hessians boots that had been made for him by the best boot makers in Rouen, and she was unable to resist the impulse to draw attention to the glittering beauty of her shoes, which she did by begging her hostess to forgive her for coming to dinner with her in boots.

“That's not a good thing at all, of course, but I think you'll forgive because I have an appointment with a group of friends tonight, and this is not an official party. No women, I mean, or dancing, or anything like that.”

“I understand” Miss Dior said, flashing to him. “Only a few people choice! Well, don't be careful!”

“What caused my uncle to come here?” Cherry was astonished. “It feels like this morning I saw you talking to him in the Pump Room, Mistress!”

“Truely, you did see it,” said Miss Dior. “But, since back then he didn't know he had to go to Paris tomorrow, for a few days, then he came to tell us about the news. He regretted not seeing you at home, but I promise that he apologized to you.”
