Archard tested his saddle strap, tightened it, told Cherry firmly to remember that his hand was still unfamiliar to the mare, and to be careful with the surroundings, and swung his body up to his own saddle.
They then moved forward, Cherry and Archard took the lead, and Mr. Constantine, following closely behind them with Miss Dior next to him, watched over his guardianship. He seemed immediately satisfied that the understanding between the grey mare and her rider began to awaken as he turned his gaze away from them, and turned his head to speak to Miss Dior, “No need to follow so closely, he seems to know how to handle foreign horses.”
“Ya.” Miss Dior agrees. “Archard assures me not to worry about him because he's a good horseman once.”
“Indeed it should be,” says Mr. Constantine. “My brother raised it to the saddle when he hasn't really gotten off the strap to walk the baby.”
“Ya,” said again. “She told me.” Silence was created between them. The atmosphere remained silent until they were out of town, and the Archard and Cherry horses galloped faster. Mr Constantine at the time said, in an outspoken way, “Are you still mad at me?”
Miss Dior was a bit surprised because she was engrossed with her own thoughts, then replied with a hesitant laugh, “Oh, no! Looks like I'm busy daydreaming!”
“If you are no longer angry with me, who or what has upset you?”
“I ... I'm not upset” Miss Dior stuttered.
“Why ... why should you think so just because I let my mind drift everywhere for one-two minutes?”
Mr. Constantine seemed to be thinking about this question. His slightly furrowed brow fused his two eyebrows together, and the sharp look between his narrowed eyes, which looked through his horse's ears into the distance, failed to give him an answer because, after pausing for a moment, he had stopped, he smiled wryly, then said, “I don't know. But, I do know that a coincidence has made you very angry, which you are trying to hold.”
“Oh, jeez!” Miss Dior sighed. “So clear?”
“For me, yes,” Mr Constantine replied briefly. “I hope you will tell me what has dispelled your calm, but if you choose not to tell a story, I will not urge you. What do you want to talk about?”
Miss Dior turned his head and looked at him in awe, a smile stretched out on her lips, and in her mind came the thought that this man was unfathomable. At any one moment, the man can be rude in his behavior and speech, as well as callous: then, when the ivu man makes him very angry, the man's mood seems to change, and his anger melted away from the sympathy, though harshly expressed, which he heard in his voice, and found in the softened eyes. Then, while looking at the two sharp eyes of the man, he saw a twinkle of a smile there, and realized the urge to give him a chance, at least a little, to know his secret. There is no one else to whom he can tell his problems, and he really needs a reliable confidant, because the more he hides hatred, the deeper that feeling dominates him. Why he should consider Mr. Constantine as a reliable confidant was a question he never thought to ask himself, he felt it, and that was enough.
Miss Dior hesitated, and a moment later, Mr. Constantine said truthfully, “You better speak openly, before all the overflowing anger in you forcibly opens the cover that holds it, , and burn everything in sight.”
This speech made Miss Dior laugh. He said, “Like a kettle of boiling water? That's gonna be so bad! It's true that I'm very angry, but it's no big deal. My brother arrived at Versailles last night, to tell me he sent his wife, his two children, their nurse, and I suspect my sister-in-law's servant, to me today, for as long as my brother thought it would be a few days. Without telling me first. I really like my sister-in-law, but it really irritates me!”
“Kukira must have been. Why were you the target of this raid?”
Miss Dior's eyes were shining. “Because he” He stopped, suddenly realizing it was impossible to reveal it to Mr. Constantine, of all people, the real reason for Mr. Arthur. “Because of Luke, my little nephew, toothache,” he said.
“You should have thought of a better reason than that!” mr Constantine's Protest. “I'm sure you think I'm a fool, but you're mistaken: I'm not a fool! I cannot believe such a lie!”
“I don't think of anything like that,” the reply was spicy.
“If you want the truth, I consider you a very perfect person, versatile!”
“Then you should know better than to try to lie to me,” said Mr Constantine. “Bringing his whole family to Rouen because Luke has a toothache? Big lie!”
“Well, I have to admit it sounds like that, but it's not a hoax. My sister-in-law is planning to take Luke to the best dentist there is, and he's being advised to go to Westcott. If you think that's ridiculous, I am too!”
“By pleasure! You express my feelings exactly! Ruining all my plans without permission left me so hurt that I wanted to go berserk! You don't have to tell me that I'm exaggerating a small problem because I realize that's what I'm doing!”
“Oh, no, I won't! You are too kind to vent anger at Dior, so rage at me.”
“Do not make it up! You are not, in this case, the cause of my aggravation.”
“Oh, don't let it affect you! I will very confidently promise to give you enough provocation to nag me in a pleasant manner! Feel free to use me!”
“Mr Constantine,” said Miss Dior, with trembling lips. “I've asked you not to make it up!”
“But, didn't I promise you provocation?”
“One of the things I really dislike about you, sir, is your unpleasant habit of always chiming in” Miss Dior told him. “Dan, in general,” added “dip roughly!”
“Come on, this is much better!” he said with encouragement. “You have freed yourself from some of your misery! Just now, tell me exactly what you think of me for saying something so unfair to you last night, and for leaving your banquet so rudely. If it doesn't free you from the rest of your misery, you can reproach, with more fervor than you did in the Pump Room back then, about the perversion of life and my nature! And, if it doesn't work”
Miss Dior cut it, a red hue dyed her cheeks. “I beg you not to speak anymore! I should not have said what I had said and I regretted it as soon as it came out of my mouth, and. But somehow the opportunity to do so never existed. I'm coming up with that opportunity, and .. and I'm really sorry to you!”
Mr. Constantine did not immediately reply, and, looking at the man's face silently, Miss Dior saw her mouth forming a suspicious smile. He said,
“One of the things I really dislike about you, my enchanting bee, is your ability to get me cornered! It's a shame that I've come to know why I like you so much!”
