The impact of this blunt speech was not at all what he expected because instead of feeling offended by it, the man laughed and said with an attitude of appreciation, appreciation,
“It should make me feel slapped, right?”
“I really hope so!”
“Oh, of course! But that doesn't make me give up! I'm warning you, I'll do it again. Well, rather than bickering with me, maybe you can kindly explain why you didn't return Cherry to her aunt, but instead held her here and clearly encouraged the boy to be disobedient?”
The ominous reverberation of what Mr. Arthur once said to her gave off a slight red hue on Miss Dior's cheek. He did not answer immediately, but when he looked up, he saw a twinkle of defiant attitude emanating in the eyes of the man, and his lips sneered cynically. Miss Dior said bluntly,
“My brother has asked me the same question. Like you, he disagreed with my actions. Both of you may be right, but I don't consider it important either his opinion or yours. When I invited Cherry to stay with me, I did what I believed in and still believe in! being the right thing to do.”
“Omong empty!” said the man harshly. “The only reason you must be is because you were tricked into thinking Cherry had been mistreated at the hands of her aunt, and if that's what she told you, that kid must have been an outrageous little liar! Mirela Raina has been loving and pampering the child ever since she took responsibility for taking care of him!”
“No, he didn't say something like that, but the thing he did tell me made me pity him from the bottom of my heart. Although it may not be unthinkable for you, Mr. Constantine, there is a tyranny worse than the tyranny of arbitrary treatment. Tyranny in the form of tears, melancholy, pleas for affection, and gratitude! This tyranny is what Mrs Raina seems to have been running to her fullest! A girl with a less powerful character might give up, but Cherry was not a weak child, and however unwise she was for having run away, she said, I want to not appreciate it for having the courage to do so!”
Mr. Constantine said, rather contemptuously, “A dramatic and insignificant way to show courage. I knew Mrs Raina well enough to know she wouldn't cry and be moody if Cherry hadn't given her so much fishing. I concluded the obnoxious little boy was making use of his aunt's kind nature again. Madame Raina often complained to me about the child's stubbornness, but what else could she expect from a girl who grew up so pampered? I thought that was how it was from the beginning.”
“Then, I'm surprised you have to hand over your guardianship child in the care of her aunt!” exclaim Miss Dior fierce. “Someone would have guessed whether you had the slightest concern for the child's well-being” He stopped, realizing he had let anger make him behave inappropriately, then said,
“I'm sorry! I have no right, of course, to denounce the conduct of either you or Mrs Raina!”
“No,” said Mr. Constantine. Miss Dior's eyes looked at her in astonishment, revealing a curious look, for she was very confused by this one-toed word.
“Absolutely not entitled,” the man said, clarifying.
During the precarious times, Miss Dior almost failed to hold back her anger, but a sense of humor came to her aid, and instead gave in to the impulse to convey important things to the man, he laughed suddenly, and said,
“How disrespectful you gave me such a rude answer, whereas I've already apologized to you!”
“How unfairly do you accuse me of giving a rude answer when all I do is approve you!” sahut spicy.
“Hopefully,” said Miss Dior, with great sympathy, “approximately not destined to meet often, Mr Constantine! You awakened a strong desire in me to give you the best reproach you have ever received in life!” Miss Dior's laughter reflected in the man's eyes.
“Oh, no, it would be very unwise if you did that!” said Mr. Constantine. “Remember, I am famous for my disrespect! I'll reply to your reproach again, and since I'm a brash man and you influential good-natured woman, things will end worse for you.”
“That I can trust! But, Sir, I am determined to do what I can to make you aware of your obligation to the poor boy. Getting rid of her by handing her over to Madame Raina when she was a child, was understandable, but she was now no longer a child, and”
“Let me correct you, Mistress,” cut it. “I will definitely get rid of him by handing him over to Madame Raina if the child is entrusted to my sole guardianship, but it just so happens that I have no choice in this! My brother appointed Raina to share his guardianship with me: and it is at the will of his wife that, should she die, her sister should be in charge of Cherry.”
“So, yes,” said Miss Dior, digesting the explanation. “But, have you also given up your authority over Cherry's future? Will you see her forced to have a marriage she doesn't like?”
“No, of course not!” he said with annoyance. “But, since marriage is not a subject matter, I can't see”
“But, that's the point!” miss Dior, very surprised. “That's why I ran away from Etretat! Surely you already know what to expect? I've guessed you became a supporter of that plan!” Mr. Constantine widened his eyes at him from under his furrowed brows. “What plan?” his insistence.
“Gosh!” caroline. “Then Madam Raina never told you?! Oh, how ... how cruel he is! That makes me even more sure I did the right thing when I held Cherry!”
“Very satisfying to you, Mistress! Please please cheer me up too by telling me what you are talking about!”
“Oh, really? Do you think I'll sit down before you let me sit down? You do think I'm bad, huh?”
“No, I don't! I don't know anything about you!” miss Dior said angrily.
“Except that I am famous for my impoliteness.” Caroline would not laugh, and said honestly as she sat down,
“I'm afraid I'm the one who's been disrespectful. Please, won't you sit down, Mr Constantine?”
“Thank you,” say politely, then choose a seat across from Caroline's seat.
“And, now, are you willing to be kind enough to tell me what this mixed nonsense means about Cherry?”
“This is not nonsense even though I admit anyone can be understood to think so! I'm under the impression you don't know why Mrs Raina brought Cherry to Ome?”
“I had no idea he had taken the boy there, until I received a tear-stained letter with fiery contents from him, written from Etretat. About the reason, I guess he didn't tell me that. To me, that seems perfectly natural. Cherry's own house was all around, and until her mother's death, the boy had regarded Oliver's family as his own, and probably made friends with his children especially, as I recall, he said, with Oliver's son whose age is not so far away.”
“Are you very sure Mrs Raina didn't tell you about the plan she and Oliver's husband-wife made between them?” tanyanya hesitated.
“No,” answer. “I'm not too sure he didn't tell me, but I couldn't understand more than the first page of his letter and it was with great difficulty because he soaked his letter with tears! The second page confused me because he not only cried on the page, but also crossed out and re-scored his sentences probably with good intentions so that I did not waste much time when reading it.”
