This made Miss Dior raise her head between her hands, and said angrily,
“This has nothing to do with Arthur! And, if you think I'm gonna sit here obediently while you and her”
“Quiet, calm” said Mr Constantine.
“Where is your manners? Your brother, properly so, wants to know how my financial situation is, and what place of residence I intend to prepare for you”
“No, I don't want to know!” cut off Mr. Arthur in anger.
“Everyone knows you're rich, and the place to stay doesn't matter because if I had an opinion about it, there would be no marriage!”
“You have no opinion on it, Arthur, and have no right to interfere in my affairs!”
“Oh, that's outrageous?” said Mr. Constantine.
“He may not be entitled to interfere, but he is perfectly entitled to try to prevent you from living what he believes will be a disastrous marriage. She would be a bad sister if she didn't try to do that!”
Shocked and confused, Mr. Arthur glanced at him.
“Yeah yaaaa, I'm glad you finally realized that,” he said, stunned.
“Well, I didn't realize it!” sambar Miss Dior.
“Of course you don't,” said Mr. Constantine in a calming tone.
“At any other time, you would say marriage has nothing to do with me too, My dear Cry Girl! So, we're going to postpone this conversation until tomorrow. Oh, naw! Don't look at me with such an angry look! I've never had a fight with a woman who's too tired to be a match for me.”
Miss Dior laughed. “Oh, you're disgusting!” his sigh.
“That sounds more like you” Mr. Constantine agreed. He leaned over it, then kissed it.
“You're exhausted, and have to get back to bed, honey. Promise me you won't wake up again today!”
“I doubt if I can do it,” Miss Dior said sadly. “But, if you and Arthur mean to fight about me, it really makes me sad”
“It takes two people to fight. I can't answer for Dior, but I don't have any quarrels, so you can calm down.”
“Quiet? When you spend your life fighting, and being unpleasant to people for no reason at all? I'm not calm one bit!”
“Based bees!” said Mr. Constantine, and went out of the room, pushing Mr. Arthur before him. “I don't like your strategy very much, Dior,” said, as they started to climb down the stairs. “Making me won't give you what you expect. That will only make him angry.”
Mr. Arthur said unhappily, “I must make it clear to you, Constantine, the shadow of my sister's marriage to a man of repute like you is disgusting to me!”
“You already said so.”
“Well, I don't want to offend you, but I don't think you're the right person and deserve to be my sister's husband!”
“Oh, it doesn't offend me. I have great sympathy for you, and will feel exactly the way you feel if I am in your position.”
“Yah, believe!” Sir Arthur gasped.
“You are the most incredible man I have ever met in my entire life!”
“No, time?” said Mr. Constantine, smiling widely at him.
“Because I agree with you?”
“If you agree with me, I doubt you should have asked Caroline!”
“Yah, I think it's good to warn you that I think it's my duty even though it's very unpleasant to talk about these kinds of things to a very well-educated woman to tell Caroline honestly why I consider you inappropriate as her husband!”
Mr. Constantine laughed. “Gosh, Dior, don't be such a fool!” said. “He knows all about my reputation! Tell him everything you want, but don't do it today, be willing, "is it? I don't want her to be sad anymore, and she'll definitely be sad. Good bye! Give my regards to Big Lady Dior!”
Accompanied by a nod, the man left, leaving Mr. Arthur in confusion over his opinion of the man. Glumly, he ascended to the parlour, and when Grand Lady Dior caught up with him a moment later, he revealed to his wife that the woman had been right all along on his prediction, adding, accompanied by ******* heavily, she did not know what to do to prevent the marriage.
“I'm afraid there's nothing to do, honey. I know this isn't what you want. It's also not what I wanted for Caroline, but when I saw the difference in her! I had just returned from her room, and although she was tired, she looked much better, and was so happy that I knew it would be of no use, she said, and it was even wrong to try to make him cancel the intention. So we must try our best, and pray that the man will not continue his current way of life and start to change it after they get married later.”
Mr. Arthur shook his head. “A man does not change his habits,” he said.
“I don't believe in a repentant badung man, Majorie.”
“I do not intend to build my opinion against your judgment because of course you must know the best, but has this ever crossed your mind, dear, even though we have heard many things about her lovers, she said, and his shameless way of showing them off everywhere, and the money he spent on them, we never heard of his close relationship especially with a girl from the upper class? Really, really, I believe Caroline is the only woman to whom she has appealed despite the countless persuasions she has given to the man because perfectionists from above even think of Mr. Constantine's wealth enough to make it acceptable. So, don't you think, Arthur, maybe he never really loved anyone until he met Caroline? That's what made me feel like they were meant to be together because it was the same way Caroline was. I, of course, did not mean to say exactly the same, but just think of the proposals he had received, and he refused! Smart guys too! Never, until he met Mr. Constantine, did he fall in love. Not even with Great Lord Sedgeley, though one would say that man was the best man for him. You'll think of me as a delusion, I'm sure, but it looks to me as if .. as if they've each been waiting for each other for years, and when they finally meet, as if it was destined they would fall in love!”
Mr. Arthur, who listened to all this in a silent manner and with a frown, was secretly impressed by her, but all she said was, “Well, you might have been right, dear, but I do think you're a delusion! All I can say is, if you're right, I hope to God that they never meet.”
“It is very natural that you would hope so,” the perfect wife responded. “But let's not talk about this again until you have time to consider the matter in your mind. Lady Mary asked me this morning if she should order the cook to bring a grilled egg for our snack, and, knowing how much you love to have a grilled egg, I said the idea was the best. So, let's go down now, before the eggs get cold.”
Mr. Arthur got up, but before reaching the door, he stopped like a horse breaking down the road, and said, “Is Belevia there? Because if he's there, no one will persuade me”
“No, no, Honey!” Grand Madam Dior hurriedly convinced her husband. “Mistress Mary and I have taken her to bed, and I have persuaded her to drink a glass of laudanum and mineral water, as a sedative, you see. She got so moody when you went up to see Caroline, and what you told her to make her so upset, I don't know because you couldn't have accused her of being drunk, which he said you did. But, I regret to say if Belevia becomes hysterical, one cannot put the slightest trust in the ridiculous things she said. He even said Mr Constantine was violent to him!”
“That's right, really?” exclaimed Mr. Arthur, clearly becoming bright. “Well, damned if I don't think he's not as bad as people describe him! But, remember this, Majorie, I may not have the ability to stop her from marrying my sister, but if she thought about charging Belevia to us, she would soon know she was wrong! And, that's how I'm going to tell him!”
“Yes, dear,” said Big Lady Dior, gently pushing her to the door. “You will certainly do what you see as good, but come on, we eat your baked eggs before they get stale!”
