Kyrie Wisteria enters a damp prison with a sprig of gold marigolds. Favorite flower of his childhood friend.
When he entered the prison located in the basement of the imperial palace, not many guards were on guard. Because this prison is only intended for members of the imperial family so there is no need for such strict guard. Unlike prison for criminals in general.
There was no need to say anything to the guards. They already knew the purpose of his arrival so they let him in easily.
He could never get used to the air inside the dungeon of the imperial palace. The gripping air and darkness that makes anyone in this prison lose hope.
Kyrie continued walking until she arrived at the end of the prison which was divided into two. One to the left and one to the right. He turned to the right and went down the stairs that looked endless so dark. After walking down, he was greeted by two guards. Again they said nothing and just let it pass.
Eventually Kyrie arrived in front of the cell which was only illuminated with a light emanating from the torch. Inside the cell, a blonde woman was sitting in the corner of the room. Hugging both of his legs with his hands.
The woman looks cold. Her appearance was much different from what Kyrie had all this time remembered.
“Serena...” call Kyrie.
The woman looked towards the voice. Her face that used to look like the morning sun had lost all of its warmth.
“Kyrie.. You came again.” His voice sounded tired.
Kyrie could not bear to see the appearance of her childhood friend like this. A childhood friend he loved very much.
“You brought me marigold flowers?” ask with a small smile. “Sweet once.”
Kyrie was unable to respond.
“Is Theo okay?” ask again. “Is my son okay?”
Kyrie nodded small.
“Good..” when talking about her first son, Serena's face became a little bright. He looked relieved after seeing Kyrie nod.
“Serena, if you ask me to get you out of here and run away with you, I will be happy to do so.” Kyrie said in a pushy tone. Today he finally decided to say this after a long time of undoing his intentions continuously.
Serena just smiled a little. “Then what? Leaving Frederick alone and putting Theo's life at risk?”
Serena's words seemed to pierce Kyrie's heart. At times like this she still thinks about her husband. The husband who was supposed to protect her but failed and instead brought her down into a slump together.
“I love you Serena.” Kyrie said half a whisper. Without realizing it, tears flowed from both eyes.
Hearing that Serena looked at Kyrie with a sad look. “You know I don't see you like that, Kyrie.”
Kyrie knows. From the beginning he knew that Serena's feelings for him would never be more than friends and brothers. But the feeling of love he just meant was not love in the romantic sense. He himself does not know if his love feelings can be categorized as love or not. He just didn't want to see this woman in front of him suffer.
Slowly he began to learn how to love someone properly. He came to the conclusion that sometimes if one loves another so much, one must learn to let go of his grasp. Otherwise, both sides would only get hurt. This now. Kyrie just wants to see Serena as happy as ever. Like when he first met her.
He missed the warm smile that was emanating from him. He misses the look of the eye that always looks optimistic and always sees things in front of him as a beautiful thing.
Serena then stood up and walked over to Kyrie. Currently they were only separated by iron bars but they seemed to be separated by a huge abyss.
Jemari Serena grabbed Kyrie's hair strands and stroked them. He smiled sadly when he saw his childhood friend standing before him with tears streaming down one of his cheeks.
“Please protect Theo from any threats that will trouble him in the future.” He said softly. “The child should not suffer just because he was born from my womb.”.
Kyrie grabbed the dull-looking golden hair of Serena and brought it closer to her lips. He kissed her hair. “I'm sorry, Serena.”
“For what? This is my life choice.” Serena laughed a little.
“Thank you. Because in a very short time, you have given me a glimmer of hope not to give up in life.” Kyrie said as she took off Serena's hair.
Serena did not reply, she simply replied to Kyrie with a warm smile.
It was the last time Serena spoke to him. The next day, the execution of Emperor Frederick and Empress Serena was dropped.
*****
Kyrie did not come to the execution of the former Emperor and Imperial Empress Helianthus. He could not bear to witness the death of the woman he loved for a mistake he never made.
The Imperial Nobles Council of Helianthus did not even bother to prepare a funeral for the two of them. They were treated as criminals for the wrongs they were accused of. A mistake that neither of them made.
Against the House of Nobles, Kyrie buried the pair under the Wisteria Flower tree in the northern part of the empire. Serena's favorite place before she became the Imperial Empress. A place that holds many memories for Kyrie. The place where he first met Serena.
The Queen Mother Eleanor Helianthus was the mastermind behind all this chaos. When the people began to sniff out the corruption of the Queen Mother, she quickly turned all suspicions to Emperor Frederick and Empress Serena. Sacrificing his only son to save himself from the wrath of society.
Emperor Frederick and Empress Eleanor left behind a son, Crown Prince Theophael Helianthus, who is now four years old. Because it was too small to ascend the throne, the four pillars of the noble family consisting of the Wisteria family, the Rosa family, were, The Lilium family and the Syringa family along with the Queen Mother became regents for the Crown Prince. The Syringa family is practically an extension of the Queen Mother because before she became empress, Eleanor Helianthus was a member of the Syringa family.
Kyrie stood in the rain staring at the tombs of Frederick and Serena. He regretted that there was nothing he could do. He did not expect that Eleanor Helianthus would easily turn her evil upon these two men. Two people who just got their happiness.
Kyrie clenched her hands and cried over Serena's tombstone. Her tears flowing from both eyes were quickly wiped away by the speck of rain.
Suddenly he felt no rain flowing through him.
“Duke, you can get a fever if it goes on like this.” Harry says. His left hand held a black umbrella.
Kyrie paid no heed to the words of this personal servant. He could only hear the rain moans that hung the umbrella that was holding him.
