It's been two days Esta's been at the doctor's clinic. And during those two days, Esta never took a word out of her mouth. He was even reluctant to open his mouth when Citra or Rai fed him. He kept staring while looking out the window.
Esta's silent attitude was terrifying. But they can all understand it. He needed time to accept that painful loss. It takes time to turn the world back. A world that had stalled because she lost her baby.
Esta did not expect the baby to be present. He used to accept it only. He didn't expect it, but he didn't want to throw it away either. But over time, the sense of regret continued to grow towards the baby. And when he had accepted with all his feelings, he again had to swallow the bitterness because the baby had now left him.
Esta could not cry anymore. I don't know who to blame on this. Obviously, it's all because he didn't take good care of her. Then he went away from her.
After four days in the maternity clinic, Esta was finally allowed to go home. This time Salamah insisted that they should go home. Can't go to the rusun.
Esta neither accepted nor refused. He just kept quiet and quiet. His sanity is still floating far away somewhere. He doesn't care where they take him.
And it's been a week that Esta has kept herself locked up at home. He never went out of the house though. His activities are just eating sleep, eating sleep. No one forbade him or protested against him. Both Salamah, Citra, Pras, and Rai, let Esta do as she pleases so that her condition returns to its original state.
But after two weeks, Esta still did not change much. He only occasionally talks when there is something important to say. Esta became a stranger and difficult person to touch.
“Mau meatballs? I buyin ya?” Rai asked one night in her room. He sat next to Esta who was curled up in the blanket.
However, like Baisa, Esta simply fell silent without responding.
There was a time when Rai was impatient with Esta's silence. He wanted to be angry but also could not take it out. He knew Esta's feelings were still broken. That feeling will long disappear. Makes Rai very frustrated and do not know how else. He thought about giving up and letting Esta go.
After all, Rai is just a 19-year-old who is still unstable in his emotions and thoughts.
Fortunately, he received support from those closest to him. More from Salamah. That is what can strengthen Rai in the face of Esta.
Hit and destroyed. Esta's been trying to be okay. But his heart and mind did not want to obey him. His body was still limp and could do nothing. He just wants to sleep, sleep, and sleep. As he slept, he could forget everything. Even when he opens his eyes, he will again remember his misfortune.
“Until when do you want to keep this up, Ta?” Rai said in the end. He was really looking forward to facing Esta.
The rather high-pitched speech managed to attract Esta's attention. He pulled out his blanket and sat looking at Rai. There is anger there.
“Are you not sad to lose your baby? How can you act so ordinary? How can you not be destroyed? How can you not feel sad? You don't love your son?” Esta immediately flocked to Rai with a painful-sounding question. He was judging the man.
Instead of making Esta feel better, the series of sentences actually makes Esta look more angry at Rai. He snorted with the rhythm of the breath going up and down. Esta's omen are holding back her anger.
Esta did not argue or answer Rai. He just drowned himself in the blanket. He was angry at the man. Angry because Rai can look strong and strong while he cannot even try desperately. He envied Rai because the man could quickly control himself.
But no matter how much Esta was angry with Rai, she still never hated let alone blamed Rai for everything that had happened. He knew that Rai also could not have wanted this. He was only upset because he could not control his sadness. She wanted to give her baby away, but somehow it felt so heavy that it made her chest tight.
Rai came out of the room and approached his family who were chatting in the family room.
“Hufh!” Rai sighed while sitting on the sofa along with Salamah, Citra and Pras.
“Esta still no change?” Ask Citra.
Rai nodded. “I don't know what else to do, Aunt.”
“That's patient, Rai. Eventually, he will return as before. You don't despair.” Entertain Citra.
“This is all my fault. I can't protect my own wife and child.”
“You also stopped beating yourself up, Rai. This is all fate and no human can escape destiny.” Pras helped strengthen his nephew.
Rai rubbed his face violently. He really felt that there was nothing he could do anymore to comfort Esta. He doesn't know what else could make Esta go back to what she used to be. Not protracted in grief and loss.
“You must understand his feelings, Rai. We all know how devastated Esta feels right now. He just needs time to get his feelings back. So you also have to be patient with her.” Salamah.
“But until when, Grandma? Until when does he want to continue? It's been almost a month and he's still grieving all the time. No wonder is it the same health?” Rai so grunted annoyed.
Here proves that Rai is really still an ordinary teenage boy. His mind was short and his sympathy was lacking. Even against Esta whose incident is his own wife. His mind was still far from being a truly mature adult word.
Pras stroked the back of his bends. Trying to give strength. Staring at Rai. Stunned by the ordeal that keeps coming to him even his age has not even twenty years. But he had already felt a loss many times in his life.
But the atmosphere changed immediately with the arrival of Fandi to the house. He entered by saying his greetings first. Then kiss the back of Salamah's hand and come sit on the sofa with them.
