Revenge By Law's
ARTICLE 8

Indira walked back and forth while biting her nails. In front of him, Abi could only sit while looking at his lawyer. Abi knows what Indira is worried about and thinks it is trivial. There were still many things more worthy of worry since he decided to defend her .

“Why didn't you tell me you had a criminal record?” ask Indira. His tone was no longer as polite as yesterday.

“How did I tell you such a thing yesterday? Even as a lawyer, you didn't ask me about my case at all. After signing the service agreement letter, you just left.”

Indira fell silent and thought for a moment after Abi's speech. It's true what he said. Yesterday he was too nervous and thought he had discussed the case too much because he answered one question from Abi.

After realizing his mistake, Indira sat down and tried to calm down. He opened the document on the table and read it carefully. Although he had done it many times before coming to the rutan. Abi smiled at Indira's behavior which was strange to a lawyer.

“Alright, we will discuss about the chronology of events according to your point of view. Please Brother tell me everything that happened on the day of the arrest.”

Abi smiles back because of Indira's speech which is back in polite fashion.

“At that time I was waiting for an order at the back of Sukajadi mall. Suddenly entered a delivery order located about 3-5 kilometers from where I was waiting. When I arrived at the pick-up point, I saw a large house with a high fence. It was the house where Mischa's body was found.” Abi was silent for a moment so that the notes written by Indira were not left too far behind. “A man came out of the fence and gave me a small cardboard box containing a package that I was going to send somewhere. The man looks like Mischa, but I'm not sure because I just saw him on television. The rate is thirty-one thousand eight hundred. He gave a hundred thousand dollars and intended to leave without asking for change. However, I forced him to accept the change, sixty-eight thousand two hundred. On the way to deliver the goods to the destination address, two policemen stopped me and immediately suspected the package in my hand. Then one of them opened it and it turned out to be drugs. After that, I was arrested and here I am now.”

After stopping writing, Indira looked at Abi as if she felt something was lacking from the chronology. “Brothers don't go into his house?”

“No.”

“Then, why can you find some objects that have your fingerprints in the house?”

Abi put his handcuffed hand on the table so that his elbows could support his body that was leaning towards Indira. The woman's lawyer knew that Abi wanted to whisper something to her and leaned in.

“Those things I touched during the first interrogation, before Mischa's body was found. They offered me a drink with that glass and a cigarette and a silver lighter at that location.”

“How about the knife? There's no way the police gave you a knife during interrogation.”

“Not knives. They gave me a thick plastic spoon to stir the drink in the glass. The spoon was broken and made into a knife handle found in TKP.”

Indira was a little surprised by Abi's statement. He still doubts the truth of his client's words. “Are you sure the handle of the knife is the same thing as the plastic spoon that the investigators gave you?”

“Check for yourself the forensic results and see the shape of my fingerprints. Is the fingerprint position like using it to pierce or stir tea?”

Their eyes looked at each other. Indira seemed to be checking the honesty in Abi's eyes, while Abi wondered whether his legal counsel would believe him or not.

“I believe in Brother. But I'll still check it out. And I hate liars, especially if I have believed him.”

Abi smiled and seemed to want to play tricks on Indira by saying, “If you believe, of course you do not need to check it.”

Justright. Indira was upset by Abi's words. His innocence made him feel guilty for showing his suspicions. In fact, the relationship between legal counsel and clients must be based on mutual trust. But, as his brother advises, he should not be a stupid lawyer for being too trusting. Skepticism is the right attitude in the face of this wild and uncertain world.

“Well, I won't check it if you can provide more convincing information.”

“I really don't care if you want to check. It would be better for you to be more certain that I am not the killer,” Abi said finished laughing. Finally he saw a glimmer of trust in Indira's eyes. “But I will always trust you. As proof, I will tell you a big secret. That's also if you want to hear it.”

The offer Abi threw was quite tempting. Finally, Indira accepted the offer by leaning back towards Abi. The man smiled and whispered something into Indira's ear. Indira's face turned tense.

“Be, really? So she -” Indira stopped her sentence as Abi pressed her index finger to her lips while glancing at the warden.

“Rather than thinking about the murder charge, we should discuss the allegations of drug couriers first,” Abi said when he saw his lawyer's face had calmed down. “And don't use overly official pronouns. Just use me, you, you, me, you or whatever you use everyday.”

Indira hesitates to receive input from Abi. However, for the convenience of communication with his client, he also tried it. “If you escape murder charges, you remain entangled in articles 111, 112, 113, 114, and 132 Law number 35 of 2009 on narcotics with a threat of at least 4 years in prison and a maximum death sentence.”

“What if it is proven accidentally?”

“Brothers, uh, you can still be entangled in article 132 verses (1) juncto article 114,” replied Indira.

“I've guessed. Strange law,” muttered Abi while leaning her body. “How can accident and impropriety be considered a mistake? Geen straf zonder schuld, no offense. And one of the important elements of error according to criminal law is the existence of intentional or negligence. A driver ojol deliver goods from one place to another without checking the contents of the goods is not an intentional or negligence, but the responsibility of work.”

Indira can only gawk. What Abi said just now was indeed basic knowledge in law, but quite a lot for a layman. He remembered the controversial press conference tape. Does your client really understand the law?

“How can you be sure that you are unintentional and not alpa? Do you have any hard evidence?”

“Should be.” Indira is confused by the supposed use of the word. Seeing the confusion of his lawyer, Abi continued, “The person ordered delivery services through the Extreme application. There should still be a booking history on my phone.”

Abi stopped talking, making Indira wait for the continuation of her story. “Then, where is the booking history?”

“At the beginning of the investigation, they said the evidence did not exist without showing his phone. I'm sure, after I put up a fight at a press conference ago, they must have completely deleted it.”

“Can such booking history be deleted by driver?” indira asked who was immediately answered with a headband. “You mean, they deleted it directly from the Extreme admin?”

“I have an acquaintance who works in Extreme office. He was once asked by his boss to delete the booking history of the driver and customer applications because one of the drivers was accused of stealing his customer's delivery package.”

Abi saw Indira who did not comment and was only pensive for a while. The woman looked like she was losing her way. “I once asked you if I was guilty and you gave me the answer I wanted. You'll determine it from all the information I've told you. You said you trusted me.”

Of course Indira remembered with his words because he had just said it yesterday. He was embarrassed because he felt he had become a hypocritical lawyer by not trusting the words of his clients.

“Sorry, I just didn't expect to face a threat of this magnitude for defending you. I -”

Suddenly Abi held Indira's hand that was soaked in sweat. He looked at the man's face, throwing a warm smile at him.

“I'll tell you the truth. Right now I don't know how much power the opponent is facing. I don't know how far I can fight. But I want to defeat them in the right way, with the law. For that, I need you. I need your help. I can't say you're not facing any danger by defending me or promising to protect you - I'm still locked up in jail. But I promise, by defending me, you will gain an experience sought by all true lawyers.”

Indira fell silent and tried to digest all of Abi's words. The last sentence promised by his client unexpectedly aroused his spirit. All the doubts and worries that had reached him, now disappeared. He again believed he had made the right decision by becoming the defender of Abhimanyu Alexander.
