"Because of Mom's job, you must have gotten some harassment at school, right?" Cut Kenzie directly into Azira's weak spot.
Azira. For a moment he didn't know what to say. His past in the school world was quite miserable to the point that he was ashamed Kenzie heard it.
"Azira," call Kenzie in a soft voice.
He touched Azira's chin and forced her to return his gaze. In fact he had already guessed this because of his unusual work in-laws. But even so he still wished deep in his heart if Azira did not feel bullying. He wishes Azira to go through the school years peacefully, but by the way doesn't this sound impossible?
"I may sound cruel to know about this because it can definitely rekindle the pain in your heart. But again, I want to know because it has to do with you." He said he was slowly trying to make Azira understand the greed that his heart wanted.
The hand that had been holding Azira's chin moved slowly to touch Azira's soft cheek. His thumb then swept Azira's cheeks back and forth to provide a sense of comfort.
"Mas, this is all the past. It means nothing to me now." Azira said she began to break away from the bond of shame in her heart.
Looking down for a moment, her eyes looked back at her husband's soul-sparing handsome face. Azira thinks it's okay because here she has Kenzie as the antidote to her heart wound caused by a trace of the past.
Taking a breath, she spoke, "The reason why Mom moved home is because she felt sorry for me who often got bullying at school. It was my fault for complaining to Mom. Often I go home from school in bad shape and cry, then complain to Mom while hoping Mom can help me. But... She never helped me and scolded me. I guess Mom doesn't care about me being hurt by my school friends. If Mom really cares, then why would she just shut up to see me being bullied at school so often? I was so afraid to go to school that I did not dare to go to school, but Mother hit me back to be diligent in school. I'm getting angry to see Mom. This is what I was thinking at the time, mom." Sad, Azira imagines the commotion she often does every time she comes home from school.
"Until God finally reveals the truth. In the middle of the night I suddenly woke up to the unusual sound of Mother's sobs. I was surprised to find my mother crying beside me because to my knowledge at that time Mother rarely cried let alone to cry as sad as that night. I'm appalled. At first I wanted to ask her why she was crying but my voice immediately choked when I heard her apologizing repeatedly to me for her silence all this time. He was heartbroken to see me struggling in school but at the same time unable to make a fight because of our impossible situation. She couldn't bear to see me continue to school but also didn't want me to quit school, because he hoped I wouldn't end up like he was lacking in education and then end up getting into the pit of deceit for being stupid. After that night I started to hold back and endure all the hardships in school in silence. Until I finally entered High School, then I met with Brother Al. One of the few people who treated me well in school."
