Astral Pet Store – Chapter 115

Su Ping deliberately kept silent to see what would happen next. As he expected, the dragon soul continued regardless of his choice.

“Because it is your choice, be prepared to face my trials!”

The voice tried to sound impressive, but it did not work well.

He felt the space around him tremble as if there was an impending earthquake. The ground in front of him was torn apart by the tip of the bone pillar, which towered higher until it stood upright like a giant tower.

Su Ping checked and found a total of nine sections, or levels, at “bone tower.” At the same time, the dragon soul spoke directly to his mind again, telling him what the tower was used for.

Apparently, he had to climb these “dragon” towers to clear his trial. By reaching the final level, he would be considered qualified to challenge the final mission, before acquiring the inheritance. In the final mission, he had to purify all 109 dragon scales left behind by the dragon and recover his soul. After his death, this ancient dragon had sealed the shards of his soul within those scales. Over time doing its magic, each scales had turned into a small piece of land polluted by dirt and monsters. In order to refine the scales, Su Ping had to eliminate all the monsters that lived within them.

Su Ping got the gist of his “mission” and thought his work was too complicated for him to like. Working through the nine levels of the tower seemed fine. But clearing monsters from 109 dragon scales? That sounds too boring.

Land “small” it is not too small according to human standards. They had all kinds of terrain, monsters, and even a wandering Beast King. Anyone who could do a good job should at least have a legendary battle pet warrior.

According to the system, the dragon king used to be something more ancient and stronger than the Beast King. It was true and proper that it would not let the weak find his legacy so easily.

Su Ping was a little frustrated with the difficulty of the mission, but he did not feel too bad about it, because the challenge meant nothing to him. That place is an illusion. The only thing he could take away from her was the experience gained from fighting monsters. No matter what kind of reward was promised, he would not be able to take it home.

In other words, completing the final goal or not doesn't matter. The actual mission process is more important.

“Good. Come.”

He calmed himself down and walked in front with his pet. He entered through a small entrance at the bottom of the tower.

The Little Skeleton was the only pet that did not seem to be affected by the dragon's soul power. Managarm seemed to be the one in the worst condition, having been frozen and shaking from fear. The Hell Dragon did not do much better, even if it was a dragon-type pet, as the dragons would strictly follow their social class at all times. A dragon with a higher status was free to rule over the other members of his clan at any time.

As for the Purple Python, it simply stayed close to Su Ping's feet to find comfort through their pet contract.

The mental pressure grew worse as they stepped into the tower, as if there were more dragons hiding in the darkness welcoming their prey. Anyone with a weak mind would have already turned around.

Su Ping took a deep breath and moved forward without thinking about the dangerous aura. He was used to being suppressed by all sorts of deadly desires while exploring the Chaotic Realm of the Undead. This fallen dragon king was weak, compared to the evil king and ruler of the underworld.

Further ahead, Su Ping looked at the image of a huge golden dragon roaring at him while showing his unparalleled superiority.

The Son of the Hell Dragon, who usually remained proud in front of other pets, hid his head under one of his wings. It would probably escape into the rabbit hole if there was one nearby.

The managarm did not move; it collapsed on the floor, unconscious.

The Purple Python had curled up into scrolls while keeping its head hidden in the middle, as if it could hide from ordinary sight in this way.

As for the Small Skeleton ... as usual, it showed no particular reaction.

Su Ping looked at his frightened pet and shook his head in disappointment. That golden dragon was clearly another illusion that was incapable of actual damage. Perhaps it could scare his opponent by using a portion of the dragon king's aura, but that was all.

I don't think I could have expected more than something that was born and raised under protection. Fuck'em. That Lightning Rat could do much better than this.

It worked at first. But as soon as Managarm saw the image of the ferocious dragon, he became cold again, his tongue coming out.

Su Ping frowned and kicked him again. He kept doing it until the dog could do better.

His improvised training began to show its value after Managarm fainted and woke up several times. Still, the creature would just stare at the floor like a scolded puppy, no matter what.

Su Ping applied the effect of “Killing” Intent on Managarm, causing it to suddenly shout at the dragon image with a pair of fiery red eyes. But as soon as the effect ended, he slipped his tail between his legs as if apologizing. A puddle of yellow spread out from under his butt, adding a different kind of flavor to the air. This coward ... Su Ping secretly complained.

In order to avoid that smell, Su Ping decided to move forward. He saw a small dot of light on the ceiling not far from his position. It seemed to be a hole for him to rise to the next level.

After throwing the pet through the hole, he also jumped up and reached the second floor.

Not surprisingly, the will of the dragon intensified several times compared to the first floor. Apart from the invisible pressure, Su Ping also heard a rustling sound coming from the darkness.

He wondered if this was all the dragon tower challenge had to offer. The fake dragon was basically useless. At this rate, he could clear the second floor in no time.

Regardless of the voice that indicated the sleeping dragon was close, he quickly found the next “lubang” and jumped onto the third floor, all the while carrying only the Small Skeleton with him. He would leave the other pets at level 2 to continue honing their courage. As soon as he came out of the hole, he saw another golden dragon coming towards him, its claws raised. This one was only about ten meters long from tip to tail, which meant that he was only a child. That must look dangerous.

He thought it was another illusion meant to frighten him, but an unusual energy mark tickled his skin saying otherwise.

The Little Skeleton unsheathed its sword and began to grapple with the little dragon. Huh... That's a clone made of energy? Su Ping raised an eyebrow as he recognized the nature of the attacking dragon. Unlike what he had expected, the dragon tower began to send real enemies towards him.

Little Skeleton made the little dragon's quick work and immediately returned to his side.

A child as strong as a seventh rank pet in general. I guess this is pretty normal for a dragon? Su Ping decided to be more careful from then on as he continued walking.

About two hours later, Su Ping left the dragon tower with his pet in tow.

The Little Skeleton barely made it through the last floor. Su Ping could not believe he was lucky. Looks like the tower designed all the challenges according to what he had. If the Little Skeleton was one rank higher, the enemy on the last floor might be the Beast King.

As he predicted, anyone with above-average talent could complete the tower challenge with enough effort. There is no way the arrogant dragon king would be willing to give his inheritance to “ above average humans.” Whoever set the challenge may not have expected a better human being to appear in the first place.

He could not help but wonder what kind of human could reach a higher level of talent.

Without wasting any time, he ordered the pets to stay close so that they could search for the dragon scales.

It was not difficult to find those things as they were simply randomly placed behind the tower. Each one looks as big as a small town with a unique theme, like a gloomy grave or an erupting volcano. By looking from afar, Su Ping was more or less able to imagine what kind of monster lived within it.

Scales are placed quite close to each other, but with clear boundaries that set them apart. Su Ping realized that he could see this place as a great training ground for different pets, as he could easily find the right element scale for each type of pet.
