“Ya Ma?” answer Raya to the mother-in-law. Despite not communicating often, Raya and her mother-in-law's relationship is good and close enough to simply not give a formal greeting at the beginning.

“Can tomorrow afternoon you and Karan come to Mama's house, honey? Mama has family. “Jeez the boy!” the mother's grumbling did not accept. “Tell him to come after he's done working. Mama doesn't want to hear any reason,” she gave an ultimatum.
