“Iya ... uh, no! I mean, no! I don't miss you. I just want you to teach me something.” Raya turned her eyes and picked up the book she was holding. The girl pointed to a writing. “I can't do this,” he said pointing to a number about the exercise in his physics textbook.
Karan rolled his eyes puffed. He looked at the matter Raya pointed out, then snorted in annoyance. But it's a very simple matter. It should be able to do it very easily. “I am surprised at you, Raya. If you don't like counting lessons like this, why would you want to choose an IPA major? Wouldn't you be better off in IPS?”
“Indeed IPS majors no math? After all, in IPS there are still economic and accounting lessons. Everyone also uses calculations,” complained Raya. Basically all the majors are the same for Raya. There are always subjects that demand the ability to count from it. Mathematics is a common subject that must be accepted by all students in any major. So, it's free if Raya moves majors now. After all, he will still meet with math lessons as well.
“Iya, but not as many IPA majors ‘kan?” reveal the man.
In the hope that Karan would listen to his proposal. Perhaps with this light conversation Raya was willing to change her decision. Karan actually did not mind if Raya constantly asked him for help. He was very happy teaching the girl. Only, Karan could not bear to see the suffering of Raya all this time. Raya looks so hard with all the counting lessons. Karan does not want to constantly see Raya come home late because she has to make remedial every time the exam is carried out.
“Iya, but you ‘kan do not want to enter the department IPS.”
The curse of the Kingdom surprised Karan. So that's why Raya wanted to choose an IPA major that she hated so much and made her suffer from having to repeat the exam in the same subject? Just because he's in the IPA major. Karan just found out the reason for this. It is only fitting that Raya does not want to undo her intentions even though Karan has forced her many times. The reason is himself. The young man felt overwhelmed. It turns out Raya sacrificed for her too.
“Not, no! Not like that!” Raya tried to dodge even though it was too late because Karan had heard the previous speech. “I didn't choose a major because of you.”
Karan tried desperately not to laugh. He even had to clench his hands so tightly that the chuckle did not come out of his mouth. “Oh so, so, why did you choose the IPA major?”
“Because I want to be a doctor.”
That was a lie. Karan knew that for sure. I have no interest in the world of biology. The girl even prefers things related to the social world. Compared to her, Raya was faster at knowing information about the world. In the house there was no television. Raya gets all the information from the television in the restaurant where she works. He could still concentrate on delivering food even though his ears and eyes occasionally watched the news on television.
“Yes, that's a good choice. That way, you can help me, Doctor Raya,” Karan said encouragingly. “Yes already, here let me teach you.” Karan took the printed book out of Raya's hands. However, when Raya gave him a pen and a notebook, he suddenly widened when he saw the bruise on the left arm of the girl. “Raya, your hand why?” he said staring at the wound in the lover's hand.
The girl looked surprised. He followed Karan's gaze fixed on his left hand. In a hurry he hid the bruise by pulling his sleeve, trying to get his school shirt to cover the place. “No, not nothing.”
“Nothing how? Try here I see?” Obviously Karan saw a blue-colored trail there. He could not be wrong because even though he was tired from studying all day to prepare for the Olympics, his eyes could not be wrong to see. Karan is smart and loves to read books. But he is not a smart child most who use thick glasses on his face. Karan is very concerned about health. His diet is very regular and he stays away from things that can make his body sick.
The reason besides health is because Raya does not like male smokers. It was not a kind of idealism but purely out of practical necessity. Their neighborhood is a poor neighborhood, but many children are burning their money by smoking. Not many of them who dropped out of school because it has no cost, but daily still able to smoke a few packs of cigarettes. But according to Raya, how good the money they use to buy cigarettes was diverted to finance their school. Minimum to buy food. By not smoking at least children it can help ease the family economy, not even increase the burden of family spending.
“What is this? Who hurt you?” Karan sontak. Although Raya tried to hide the scar by avoiding it, it remained that Karan was much more astute than Raya. The young man managed to hold back his lover who intended to run away, and saw a bruise on his left hand. “Tell me, Raya, who would dare to hurt you like this?” said windy. He had been angry at something, but he had never been this angry before. Because the wound on Raya's hand is still fairly new, it may have happened not long ago.
Raya brushed off Karan's hand. He forced himself to smile. “Nobody hurt me. I just accidentally fell off the bike. You know I'm learning to ride a motorbike ‘ right? Yes it's a wound because I'm not careful.”
The story was heard by Karan two weeks ago where Raya said that she was trying to ride a motorcycle for the needs of the restaurant. The owner of the restaurant asked Raya to learn to drive it because they needed people to be able to deliver some orders. During this time the owner always hires the services of a motorcycle taxi and the cost is quite expensive. Raya who saw the opportunity to get more money also volunteered to replace the taxi driver. The problem is Raya could not ride a motorcycle before. Fortunately, the restaurant owner took the time to teach him.
Unfortunately that reason was not strong enough for Karan. Quickly his hand moved to the foot of Raya. Without wanting to harass her lover, Karan lifted the skirt of Raya a little. But he didn't find what he was looking for there. Karan did not see the slightest scratch on Raya's knee. This is so weird. The bruise on Raya's hand was quite severe. If such a severe wound could be in Raya's hands, surely the girl had fallen very badly off the motorcycle. Which means there must be other wounds printed on the part of the Kingdom's body, especially the legs of the girl who should be the most injured part when falling. But in reality, there was not a line of wounds on Raya's knee.
From that simple observation Karan was able to conclude that Raya was not injured by falling from the motorcycle. The girl was injured by being hit by someone. The question now is, who would dare to hit Raya? Who was the one who hurt the girl but tried to be hidden even to the point of lying to Karan? This really made Karan angry. It felt like he was going to beat up the person who had made Raya's hand until it was bruised like that.
“You didn't lie to me ‘kan?” Karan asked again. The girl replied with a nod of her head. “Yes already, let's go home. We go to the store to buy medicine. This wound of yours cannot be left alone.” Karan did want to know who had injured Raya, but not from Raya herself. The girl had already lied to him, then there was no chance he would open his voice and reveal who had hit him. Karan decides to find out for himself. He did not need to involve Raya any more because he was afraid that Raya would be cornered by that person. Once Karan missteps may make the safety of Raya threatened.
When they were on their way home, Raya did not want to quickly get to her house. Raya chose to take Karan to go somewhere. “You know at the end of this road there's a big river. He said the river was once clean. But now it has become a dumping ground for people. It's sad, isn't it? Whereas if the community is more clean, the river will be much more useful than just a landfill.”
Karan followed the direction of Raya's gaze which was staring at the small street around which was full of glass and plastic bottles. It is the most dangerous place in the village because of the minimal lighting. Several times Karan passed through the place at night, after delivering Raya home. Several times Karan saw scenes he should not have seen at his age. Not only perverted scenes, but also violent scenes including braking by some local thugs. In addition, it was not uncommon for Karan to see some drunk and sprawled young men on the street holding a liquor bottle in his hand.
That was a strong reason why Karan always took the time to escort Raya. He was afraid something might happen to the girl. But some time later, Karan could not do it because he was busy preparing for the Olympics which is only a matter of weeks. Did Raya experience anything bad while she was on her way home? For example, the experience ... Nah! That's not possible. Although the Kingdom looked weak, but the girl mastered a bit of martial arts. That's why Karan can relax his supervision a little and let his girlfriend go home alone. After all, there were no signs of persecution that Raya received except in her hands. Maybe it wasn't the thugs in this village who hurt Raya.
But if—even though it is only a parable—if Raya has really been hurt by those thugs, what should Karan do? Obviously reporting to the local security authorities would not result in anything. The police will not be able to crack down on reports made by a boy like him. Maybe Karan should do it his own way. Replying to their actions in the same way, namely by violence.
But Karan hopes that never happens. He hoped it was just his worry. It is better that he who is injured and loses his life than what is in his mind is really befalling the lover. Because if that were to happen, despite having to be a monstrous monster, Karan would retaliate in a way more ruthless than what they had done. To hell with conscience and kindness. Karan can do anything if it concerns the safety issue of the Drisana Kingdom, his first love.
