A Miracle

Pneumonia may not be as dangerous as lung cancer, but it is still quite deadly for a four-year-old child. In fact, Karan decided to go to formal school to get intensive care in the hospital. This means that the disease is enough to make little Karan suffer. Raya simply could not imagine how that man could survive as a child. It must have been very difficult for him to do many things. Karan will always be confined at home or in a hospital room.

“Did Karan spend his childhood fighting the disease, Auntie?” Raya asked again. The story of Karan always stole the attention of Raya. I don't know why he seemed to have closeness with the man when they only knew less than five months. Each time it came into physical contact even when their two eyes met as if it had happened before.

Did they really meet, for example, when they were kids? From the point of view of the Kingdom it feels very impossible. Karan comes from a wealthy family. Karan's life is so assured and Raya feels, Karan will always get luxury. While Raya is just a little girl who grew up in a shabby village. In addition to criminals and police who are easily invited to cooperate, no one will visit the village Raya. The majority of the population is just poor people with limited education. Yes, there are some schools there, even to high school, but not enough to boost the lifestyle of the people who are in short supply.

So out of those two social inequalities, did Karan and Raya ever meet? Maybe the question needs to change a little. Is there a chance for the two men who are now husband and wife to meet? In any case, the possibility is nil. Absolutely impossible. Raya had indeed been to the heart of the capital before when she was a child, but to follow the intelligent race meticulously. While Karan had no chance to come to Kampung Raya. After all, why would the son of a conglomerate set foot into the slums? Impossible right?

"True, during my stay here, Karan was always in the hospital. She is rarely home. We took turns keeping him there. Fortunately, Brother-in-law is a great man. He can divide his time with such discipline. Take care of Karan, working in his company while taking care of Big Brother who often his health down due to too sad. Ah, I want to cry every memory of the past.”

A trickle of water fell from the aunt's eye, followed by other drops. It feels so hard to remember those times. The house is always quiet because the residents are more often in the hospital. Their mother—grandmother Karan— also felt prolonged sadness. Karan's father and mother are the oldest children in their respective families. That was why Karan's presence was the most important thing for them. The child was also very important for the survival of the Reviano family as it was the only child born to their family. Karan's youngest uncle chose not to marry and continued to live with devotion to God.

Karan's mother doesn't want to have any more children either. His mind was so confused to take care of Karan that there was no one to be tempted for a second to have offspring again. So did Karan's father. His activities are so dense with various affairs that the presence of the baby will be so troublesome for him. They were afraid that Karan's sister would suffer from not being taken care of. And even more frightening with the possibility that the child will experience something similar to his brother.

“I'm sorry, Auntie. I didn't mean to make Auntie cry.” Raya took the tissue box and thrust it at the aunt. The sadness was understandable given her aunt's closeness to Karan.

“Yes, it's okay. Karan didn't tell you this ‘kan? The boy always was. Keeping everything to themselves. You know, as a kid Karan wouldn't have said the pain he'd been in if we hadn't forced it. Truly a strange child,” said the aunt while wiping her tears.

“Oh yes Auntie, has Karan's disease been completely cured? I mean, he went to school in New York for a long time. Is Karan really no longer sick?” That question really bothered Raya. If the severity of Karan's disease in the past, why did his parents let Karan go to study abroad? Okay, call it the United States is a developed country which of course the treatment is also much more advanced than Indonesia. But still sending Karan alone there was not a light decision. Remember, alone. As Raya knows, Karan's parents remain in Indonesia while Karan is in his education.

The aunt's forehead also shriveled. It seems he was confused to answer how. “I also don't know what the reason Brother and Sister-in-law sent Karan to New York. Though I remember one year before departure, Karan's health had dropped again. Unfortunately, I had to follow my husband to Holland. So, I didn't have time to visit Karan and ask what happened next.” After wiping her eyes, the woman sipped her already cold tea. “Perhaps for treatment. Sister-in-law has a company in New York, so she must be the one going back and forth between Jakarta and New York.”

That is acceptable even though Raya still does not understand the mindset of the rich. Instead of settling in the United States for the health of their son, Karan's parents insisted on living in Indonesia. If later the father went back and forth Jakarta-New York, is not living in New York much easier? If it happens to Raya—hopefully it will never happen—it's definitely Raya will do the easiest thing. He will stay with his sick son no matter what. Raya could lose her job and property but she would not be able to lose her own flesh and blood.

“Looks like it was for treatment, Auntie, because Karan is completely healed now,” responsa Raya. What makes Raya sure her husband is cured at this time? Cigarette. Yeah, that guy's smoking a cigarette. Never once did Raya hear her husband being taken to the hospital suffering from asphyxiation from smoking. Even if the Kingdom was not banned, the man would continue to smoke throughout the day. Really sucks.

“Yes, your husband looks very fresh now. I got to pangling when I saw his face at your wedding. Karan looks so different. Probably because I haven't seen him in decades. Little Karan is so cute in my eyes, but mature Karan looks so handsome. Isn't Kanan's good looks what made you fall in love, Raya?” The aunt seduced her nephew's wife to melt the atmosphere. It's enough they've been sad about Karan's sad past. It is better that they spend time now talking about the future.

Pipi Raya meets red. Slowly he nodded his head. “Iya, Aunt. Karan is very handsome and I like his face,” Raya said honestly. Is there a woman who doesn't like Karan's handsome face? There can't be. Every woman loves it and is crazy about that face. Not to mention Karan's charismatic look and his well-crafted image in front of the camera. Perhaps if conducted a survey among teenage girls about their ideal partner in the future, Karan's name will get the highest vote among them.

Raya nodded small. “Iya, I have worked in several government agencies engaged in the social world, Aunt.”

“Good then. Coincidentally next week I want to hold a charity event, may I ask for your help to be present there? I heard all this time you've been sending a lot of help to the community. Your image must be very good in front of the community.”

Unexplained, Raya knew what the aunt meant. The woman needs a mass media presence and a public spotlight. Oh, come on, don't be a hypocrite. No charity event is truly based on concern and humanity. Especially the conglomerates. If indeed they were so sincere in wanting to help the society, they would definitely give it to themselves and secretly. Not many people actually do that. The average person helps society with definite rewards. Not in return for money, but fame.

That is why the mass media is always there at every charity event. They need public attention so that the public will find out the business that is run by that person. And as a result, the charity event became a material for advertising their company in an easy and easy way. Without installing large billboards on the streets, rent a few seconds on television or put up advertising in some shopping centers. When the charity event is done, especially in the event there are famous public figures, the media spotlight will be on it.

Yeah, that's perfectly fine. There is no violation in this. As long as that social assistance is really channeled into society, whatever the motive is not a problem. Both sides have benefited in this matter. The most unacceptable is when the mass media has published massively, but the help does not come. Funds that should be sent to the people, it goes into private pockets. Isn't that really a disgusting act?

“Next week huh? I think I can, Auntie. But maybe I'm a little late because there is a shooting schedule in the morning,” replied Raya. There is no harm in helping my aunt. Counting in return for wanting to tell Karan's past that Raya couldn't get from anywhere, including from her husband's own mouth.

“Yes, you're very busy. It's okay if you're late. What matters is that you come, Raya. We need a lot of funds to renovate some schools that collapsed due to poor building construction. My husband can't stand to see it. And if you wait for help from the state, it will be very slow and difficult. Better we move alone,” the cetus. Given that her husband was a professor at a prominent Dutch campus, their conscience was called upon to see children studying under the scorching sun as their school buildings collapsed. They also agreed to do the charity work.

Raya nodded her head. “Iya Aunty, I will come no matter what happens,” her promise.

Just then, the atmosphere in front of the house was so overwhelming. People were seen surrounding a man who had just gotten there. “It must be Karan. The boy apparently according also to come here.”

The aunt's words were right. Despite the difficulty of getting out of the horde of people who approached him, Karan was finally able to meet his mother. The man hugged the mother and whispered something in her ear. Shortly after, Karan's mother turned her head and pointed towards Raya. It seems Karan is asking where his wife is and the mother is showing the existence of Raya.

Karan looked towards Raya. Her lips twitch, “Let me go there.”

Raya nodded. “Iya,” reply.

“That boy seems to love you very much, Raya,” exclaimed the aunt.

Raya can only smile. “Yes, he looks so,” he said honestly. Although often rude, it does not mean Raya can not see the sincerity of Karan's face. That man seemed to love her so much. Excessive affection to the point of a very horrible possessive attitude. Karan is the dominant type of man who must control everything, including his own wife.
