Madness

Madness
Chapter 27's

Before long, the two seemed to be sitting in silence. Each was busy with his own thoughts, let alone remembering the events they had just gone through earlier.

Nate glanced at the woman beside him who looked still unwilling to look at him.

There was a sense of disappointment in his heart, when Lin did not answer his feelings at all. But for now, Nate did not want to overextend himself. He decided to be patient.

He will find a better time to talk about this later. But, there are still things that he cannot wait for and he will try to get it.

Lin himself, still did not dare to reveal his heart to the man beside him.

He still feels afraid, considering this is the first time in his life he experienced a strong enough attraction to someone. Which made him want to be tied to her.

Even to his own mother, he never felt the closeness of a child to his parents. At the moment, he still feels confused.

"It seems, you can already control your wild instincts well, Lin."

Lin nodded his head slowly. "Yes. Thank you, Nate."

Realizing Lin's feeling of being upset, the man rubbed his head slowly. This made Lin turn to her, wondering.

"Regarding the one, don't think about it. Okay?" Nate smiled faintly.

Lin's eyes twitched at him, but he finally lowered his head.

"Sorry, Nate. I-"

"Actually, there's something I want to ask you."

Nate cut him off and immediately stood up. He was still not ready to hear the rejection from Lin.

Gendering at her desk, Nate faced back at the woman in front of her. Right now, he would focus first on helping Lin discover his past.

"I want to meet tonight because it's my question from a few days ago. So, what's your answer, Lin?"

For a moment, Lin only looked at the fist that was on his lap. But then, he looked up and his eyes looked even stronger.

"What do you know about my father?"

Nate's expression was completely flat. Lin had no idea what was on the mind of this man in front of him.

Nate stuffed both his hands into his pants pocket and nodded. He decided to tell Lin about the things that the woman needed to know.

"Your father's name is Alexander Johan. We usually call him Master Johan. He was one of the Masters who created the V."

"The Masters? What'sthat?" Lin asked confusedly. He doesn't understand this topic at all.

"We ourselves do not know who they are, or what and where they come from. Many of the Vs consider them to be future humans, or perhaps even aliens coming from other planets."

Nate crossed his arms across his chest and turned his gaze on the glass window that displayed a dense darkness outside.

During his life with Johan, Nate never asked the old man this question. He was already swallowed up with his desire to die, making him uninterested in other things.

Nate only really wanted to know more about the history of his own people, after the man separated from his Master and lived his own life.

"I told you about our creator. The Masters are their nicknames. Only they can create and destroy a V."

Lin's breathing started a little faster. He was trying to understand this new information.

"So you're saying, I'm from one of the Masters, and not from the V itself?"

"Kaum V could not reproduce Lin. Male V may be able to produce the seed, but the fetus will never survive in the womb of female V. If they remain determined, they must fertilize a human woman. But it won't do any good."

"It's no use?" Lin scrunched his forehead as he looked at Nate.

"At the end of the day the woman will die, taking the baby with her. There was nothing in his history that this ever worked. And those who try it will get a punishment far sicker than death itself."

LIn's questioning gaze made Nate continue with her story.

"Our bodies live by the rules, Lin. And it's pretty tight. Our numbers are very limited, making it very easy for The Masters to monitor our movements. They can feel it from the essence of life they have given to their people."

In his pocket, Nate clenched both his hands.

The essence of his life is directly connected to Johan, making the man very careful when dealing with humans.

He did not want until there was a movement known by the old man, so he did not want to make any problems in his life.

"Do you know that we have a long life? The thing that could make us die directly was only two. The expired age or the essence of life uprooted by its own creator."

"In addition to those two things, there are several indirect causes of death of a V. One of them is hunger."

"Hunger?"

Lin had heard that the Vs had to drink human blood regularly. He shuddered a little at imagining it.

The vibration from Lin's body, made Nate smile. He knew what the woman had imagined.

"We have to 'eat' regularly because otherwise our bodies will weaken. Just like humans, who must also receive energy intake from the food they consume."

Biting his lips, Lin turned to look at Nate. He could not imagine the man's mouth being covered in blood when he was in a period of 'eating'.

Looking at the expression of the woman in front of him, made Nate laugh out loud.

Knowing he was being laughed at, making Lin's face warm up.

The man finally stopped his laughter when he saw the woman in front of him looking uncomfortable and embarrassed.

"Sorry Lin. You look so funny."

Pounding softly, Nate continued his explanation.

"the essence. We have to 'eat' every few months and go through a period of hibernation for some time. Just like bats or other animals in general."

Feeling tired, Nate opened his reading glasses and rubbed his eyes.

"Out of the hunger. Vs who are known to try to fertilize humans will get the punishment of not being given 'eat' in a very long period. You can estimate how long, Lin?"

Hearing that question, Lin could only shake his head.

"I've heard, the Vs who can last the longest with their fast are 10 years. In the end, he dried up and died after enduring untold torment."

Lin shuddered back. The information conveyed by the man, had never been imagined by him before.

"For 10 years of his fast, the effect is the same as that of a man who does not eat and drink for 20 days. He will feel thirsty, exhausted, and eventually cause hallucinatory effects that are ultimately death."

The man sighed and turned his gaze back outside the window.

"The truth is that he who received the punishment must feel tormented for 10 years before finally being able to meet his end."

He's tried this way before. Even for himself who had a strong urge to die, it remained unable to endure that pain for more than 18 months.

At that time Marcus found him lying in his bed while rummaging unclear. His body was hot and he almost died if he was not forced to 'eat' right then and there.

Returning saved from death, it slightly angered Nate at his subordinates. But he knows that Marcus still needs him.

The cold man would have no purpose in life again if his boss left. Nate could not imagine what Marcus would do if he were really dead.

"Then... What about my dad?"

Lin's question made the dreamy man turn his head.

"As I said earlier, the only one who can produce a direct descendant is simply The Masters itself. They can fertilize a human, and have children."

"So, is my dad really one of the Masters?"

"Yes. And his name is Alexander Johan."

Nate finally sat back down beside Lin and held both of his shoulders. Pull the woman to face him.

The man looked at the woman in front of him with a gentle but serious look, trying to give some understanding.

"You should know Lin that by having a child, there are consequences severe enough to be borne by a Masters."

The woman's eyebrows shriveled. "What consequences?"

"Having children from humans will reduce their lifespan significantly. It was because they had to divide a part of his life essence directly in the process of fertilization."

Lin's face looked stiff. His mind was starting to catch what the man in front of him meant.

Nate squeezed both of Lin's shoulders gently and said carefully.

"Lin, your father only has less than 6 months left to live. Do you want to see him for the first time and maybe for the last time?"
