Inside Johan's room, Lin was seen waiting in the living room. He was waiting for his father who was in the bathroom with Felix.
While waiting, Lin went back and forth to check his phone and many times also had to feel disappointed when he did not find any notification from the man he was waiting for.
"He didn't call you at all?"
There was the hoarse voice of his father, who had already come out of the bathroom and was approaching Lin. Felix was behind Johan, pushing his chair.
Lin slightly threw his phone on the table. His eyes were on his father.
"Who am I waiting for, Dad?"
Lin knew what his father meant, but he didn't want to admit it. At least at this time.
Hearing that answer, Johan smiled faintly. He turned to Felix.
"Thank you Felix. Can you leave us both? There's something I want to talk to Lin about. The conversation between father and daughter."
Felix just smiled knot. He is very familiar with the problems that are happening.
"certain Master. Just call me when you need help."
After Felix exited the room, Johan pushed his chair towards his daughter.
The old man grabbed his son's hand and held it in his lap.
"Father glad you wanted to come today, Lin. But I know, you'd want to know something from me. Ask what you want to know. As much as possible, I'll answer."
Lin lowered. To be honest, he was quite embarrassed if it turned out that his motives were clearly visible to his father.
Raising his head, Lin looked at his father right in both of his eyes. Today, he had to know the things that had been hidden from him. Highlight Lin's eyes was just like Johan when the man already had determination.
"Regarding Nate. I know that Dad was the creator. What can you tell me about him?"
Hearing this information, Johan's lips revealed a satisfied smile. Their relationship was deeper than she expected.
Releasing her son's hand, Johan directed her seat to the large window in the room. The afternoon sun starts to turn red, a sign that the night is coming soon.
"Nathanael Axelle."
As those words came out of his mouth, Johan smiled sadly.
"What has he told you, Lin?"
Lin looked at the hand on his lap. He's squeezing.
"Nate just said that he was once a soldier. He also had a family, but they were killed. I know about her that's just that."
He still does not want to reveal about Dominic and the events of yesterday.
Johan sounded from the window. "It turns out he hasn't changed at all."
Lin's eyes blinked. He doesn't understand at all. "What do you mean, dad?"
Johan turned around and looked at his daughter.
"Nathanael Axelle was a great general of war in his former unit. His background is the noble D'Axelle. The richest noble family back then, but he never used his privilege at all for his own sake."
Lin's eyes were rounded. It turned out to be true, if Nate was from among the nobility. The man's looks and manners could not at all deceive where it came from.
Lin's heart started pounding, waiting for his father to tell him the history of the man who began to fill the recesses of his heart.
"At the time he met her, the boy was only 6 years old. From childhood, he was trained and educated hard to replace his father who died on the battlefield. When you saw her, did you know what was on my mind, Lin?"
Lin was only able to shake his head. He had absolutely no idea that Nate had such a harsh past.
"Dad felt sorry for him. When other children still had time to play, the little boy had to bear a heavy burden on his shoulders alone. None of his family gave him moral support. All just thought of it as a tool to maintain the existence of their noble big name."
Johan took a heavy breath as he continued.
"When he finally married, his partner was the one whose family chose. A distinguished family. Nathanael has absolutely no right to be able to choose someone he likes let alone those of a different social status."
Johan's gaze turned back towards Lin.
"The child has the right to do something when his son is born. He wanted his descendants not to experience the same things as him. He wanted them to be more free to express themselves and to choose their own way of life."
The old man looked to open his slightly wet eyes.
"When they were slaughtered for some obscure reason, all he had in mind was to follow his family into the afterlife. The first time in his life he could feel the right to something, everything was suddenly snatched forcefully from his hands."
Taking a deep breath, Johan raised his head. He still remembers when Nate cried and cried out in despair when he found out that he had become a kara in the world.
"Father's biggest mistake was changing the boy. You know you're wrong, but you'll never regret doing it."
Johan loved Nate as much as his own son. He was not willing for the young man to just leave the world in a futile way.
"Len."
Johan called out to his daughter who was seen bowing her head.
When Lin finally raised his head and looked at himself, Johan continued.
"Lins. I want the boy to have a second chance at life. I want the boy to taste the happiness he has never felt. I really want to see him out of control. Can you give it to him?"
His father's words somehow made Lin's tears drip by itself.
Lin looked at Johan with a pushy and teary look. At this moment, he suddenly began to question again about the existence of his life.
"Dad... What was the purpose of being born into this world?"
Johan's sad smile seemed to form on his lips. She knew very well what Lin was thinking and felt that her daughter was indeed entitled to know about her origins.
Slowly Johan approached Lin who seemed to be shedding tears. The look on her face did not look sad, but wondered.
Gently, Johan wiped away the tears that fell onto Lin's smooth cheeks.
"Lins. I want to tell you something, and it's long enough. It's about your origin, and so are you. Do you want to hear it?"
Trying to calm his emotions, Lin nodded at his father.
Lin had to get answers to his questions, which he had been pointing to himself for years.
Johan looked down and grabbed his son's hand. The old man squeezed it gently.
He looked at a point at the end of the room. It seems to be trying to concentrate on one thing.
"Father actually came from a faraway place, Lin. Very, very far from here. We came to earth because my father's home planet was heading for extinction."
Lin blinked his eyes. Meaning true as Nate's story at that time, that The Masters is not actually from earth.
"At first we numbered 10 people, the two of us were finally unable to survive the atmospheric conditions on earth are very different. And one of them is my father's life partner."
Johan closed both eyes. He re-imagined his and his colleagues' struggles while trying to adapt to life on Earth.
"Although our technology is more advanced, but still we must be able to survive in rough conditions. Luckily, the arrangement of cells in human blood is almost similar to ours and also turns out to be a substitution of the 'food' of our home planet."
"So your 'food' is blood?" Lin shuddered in horror.
"really. 'Our main 'food' is blood. But in the father's place of origin, the blood came from a different source. And it has been specially processed and packaged, making it more representative and looks like a pretty normal food."
After squeezing Lin's hand back, Johan pulled his hand and placed it on the handle of his chair. He pointed his chair at the window and took a deep breath.
"And like any other creature, we have an instinct for survival and also for the development of offspring."
Her life partner used to be the only woman in their entourage left. His eyes were slightly watery when he recalled that he had lost his soulmate back then.
"With the death of my partner, our hope of breeding and producing pure offspring was also destroyed. We can create Vs that come from blood, but unfortunately the cells in the human body can't fuse perfectly with our DNA, causing them to not be able to reproduce."
"Yes. I've heard a little bit about this from Nate."
"Nate also said that the Vs could not produce a child from a human woman."
Lin saw his father nod. The old man's head looked down miserably.
"really. After learning that they could not reproduce, we also soon realized that the V seed, which came from blood, could never develop in the womb of a human woman."
"What would happen if the Vs fertilized humans?" Lin was quite curious about this in fact.
"Lin, our main 'food' is blood. What can you imagine, if in the womb a human has grown a creature that 'eat' is blood?"
Lin's face paled. It's totally unthinkable. "I mean...?"
"The innocent baby will absorb the blood of his mother, causing death. A human woman will not be able to survive more than 2 weeks from the time a V embryo develops in her womb."
"Oh God..." Lin covered his mouth with both hands.
"Therefore, we also agreed to apply fairly strict rules. As aliens, we do not want to disrupt the human order of life. We are trying our best to keep the existence of the Vs unknown to man at large."
"Wait a minute. If the V can't produce children, but why can't you?"
The question made Johan turn his body and look at his son.
"It's still a secret of nature, Lin. I can't answer that either. All father can say is that maybe because we are pure descendants and not of blood, making us have a privilege for it though..."
Lin's eyes were watery and staring at his father. "Although it has to be paid dearly."
With a sad smile, Johan nodded slowly.
"really. But you'll never regret it."
Head Lin shook his head slowly. He opened his eyes, trying to get rid of his sadness. There are still a lot of things that he has not understood.
"I still don't understand. If you can fertilize a human, why sacrifice your life?"
"You should remember, we're not human, Lin. The fertilization process we did was quite different from yours. Perhaps in medicine, we conceive in insemination rather than the traditional way."
"Inseminations?"
"Males should take their seeds out first on the outside, and give their life essence directly to make sure the seeds are finished. Only then, plant it on their life partner."
"So you guys never...?"
Lin demonstrated the meeting of his two index fingers with a questioning look.
"It can be said no, Lin. Our people have no such interest. We who have a partner will choose them based on the scent of the body as well as the blood."
Johan recalled that he and his colleagues were quite surprised to learn that humans have a strong need to be physically involved with their partners. This makes humans an object of research that is quite interesting for its people.
"This complex process led many of our kind to choose unpairedness and to develop offspring using blood, just as we do humans today."
"Then what does this have to do with a lack of age because it gives life essence?"
"Once again you must remember Lin, that we are not human. Although humans have a similar arrangement of cells, but they are still different. This makes us have to provide greater energy, including when fertilizing humans."
"That means you already know the risks when you do that?"
"Father already knew the risks, though did not know how exactly this would affect the body of the father himself because no one had done it before."
Sighing his breath in, Lin looked at his father and asked back.
"Did you really want me?"
The question made Johan feel sad. Slowly, the old man hugged his son tightly. He felt so guilty for leaving his daughter for so long without any real affection.
"Lins. Reassure yourself that you really love you. You are my only daughter. Even if you die, you'll never regret having you."
Both of Lin's eyes were tightly closed. He tried to absorb the words of Johan into his brain which had been embedded negative memories from his own mother.
After a while, Johan took off his arms and rubbed his son's hair.
"There's something else I want to say Lin. And this is my father's last wish. Do you want to hear it?"
Hearing Johan's request, it naturally made Lin nod steadily.
"What do you want, Dad?"
"When you finally have the courage to have offspring and know that you are a woman, you have another purpose Lin"
The two fathers-children looked at each other. "other goals? What'sthat?"
"Dad wants to give you as a couple to Nathanael."
This unexpected answer made Lin's eyes glare. "Pair for Nate?"
"As you said at the beginning. Dad changed Nathanael because he wanted her to have a second chance at life. And I want you to give it to him."
"But why should I, and also why should Nate?"
"Dad loved Nathanael like his own son. I've seen him grow up and develop into a grown man. And I love you Lin, because you're a direct part of me."
His father's words made Lin's heart pound.
"Is it wrong for you to want you to be together?"
Johan's question made Lin speechless and slightly lowered his head.
"Nathanael was a good and responsible man. I know for sure his family background and as long as I know him, Nathanael has never disappointed me once. Dear father, during his life the child always lived in a bond of control that was too strong. Never have you seen him laugh and live freely."
Johan held both shoulders of his daughter tightly.
"And I know, if you have also experienced a hard life struggle so far. You deserve to be happy Lin. You have the right to come out of your grief all this time. It is natural for a father to be able to give the best possible partner to his sons. Now the question is, how do you feel about that kid, Lin?"
The two hands of Johan holding onto Lin's shoulders grew even more stiff.
"Do you like it?"
After being silent for a while, Lin looked up and looked at his father. He swallowed his saliva.
"Yes. I like it."
"As a man?"
With a reddened face, Lin nodded. "As a man."
"Do you want to be with him?"
"Yes dad. I want to be with Nate. I want to be around him always."
Johan nodded. He was quite satisfied with his daughter's answer.
"If it was from the conversation father had with the child yesterday, it seems like he also has special feelings for you, Lin. Where's your relationship?"
Smiling sadly, Lin could only answer while shaking his head.
"Frankly, now I'm not sure anymore. Maybe Nate's feelings for me have changed."
Johan's hand held her daughter's chin, forcing her to gently look at him.
"Surely, what's going on?"
Taking a deep breath, Lin finally decided to be honest with her father. He also needed a definite answer at this time.
"Did you ever hear of Dominic?"
Hearing that name, made Johan frown and squint his eyes reflexively. The old man's hatred seemed to flare up in both of his eyes.
"Dominic?"
