"You cut the gas line?" Harry asked with glaring eyes. "Is that the best idea you could find?"
"Shhhhh!" David rested on crutches and looked around as they stood at the back of the canteen. Dozens of women were lining up breakfast in front of them in a huff, and all knew the female ears were very sharp. He turned the sound into a whisper. "The doctor's still here, right?"
"Well, the car's still, '" said Harry. "After what happened yesterday, I don't blame him for leaving here."
The commotion in the queue interrupted Harry and David's conversation. Hailey Baldwin with her little dog, seems to be at odds with Colonel Molly.
Soon they walked ahead.
Their steps stopped in front of the cafeteria-style serving place at the right time. From what Rachel and Molly look like, it seems they're almost in a fight.
"Good morning ladies," said Harry sweetly. "Is there a problem?"
Molly swung the wooden spoon towards Hailey. "This cocky lady wants proof that the fruit bowl is organic."
Hailey glares. "Given the blob you're trying to disguise as wheat porridge, I don't think it's an exaggeration to ask if the fruit was rinsed with pesticides before I put it in my mouth."
All the women behind Hailey concurrently.
Molly's face was flushed red and her hands clenched. "I have something for your mouth!"
"How dare you threaten me!" reply Hailey
"And a troublemaker is forbidden to enter my food hall!" Shouted Molly while pointing at the door.
"Please, ladies. Let's talk about this like a rational adult." Lerai Harry's
David gasped at her brother's words and took a step back.
Hailey and Molly both turned towards Harry. "You mean I'm not rational?" ask Hailey
"Inviting women here is irrational!" molly's bow
Hailey's eyes narrowed. "Trust me, we're starting to regret coming!"
The women supported Hailey, then began to exclaim, "We want yogurt!"
David looked at Harry, who looked speechless. He put a finger in his mouth and whistled loudly.
Everyone is silent.
"Miss, the Booker family would like to invite you all to a town meeting. You can make all the complaints, and we can convey information about our plan to rebuild this city of Happiness, which you will listen to with joy, including the creation of organic gardens." Porter said as he threw a smile around.
"When and where was the meeting held?" Ask Hailey .
"Hmm.. right here.. it's noon." David gave a charming smile to the woman. "For now, believe me ladies, eating canned fruit for one day will not damage your beautiful body." The blink to everyone and the respect to Molly was able to ease the tension. Everyone back in line for breakfast and be nice at least for now.
Harry pulled David to the side. "What the fuck was that?"
"Where might we expect these women to stay and help us build happiness if they don't understand the big picture? They don't know what we've done, and what will happen. We need to get everyone together and explain everything, like when we convince the communications company to install a cell phone tower and convince the state park network to buy our tatal." Obviously David
"Prepare an organic garden? I didn't even know it was on the list" Harry exclaimed
"Now we have a hundred extra hands" David reminded. Then his gaze fell on the group of women who looked annoyed and sour-faced were queuing for food, in contrast to the group who were excited and carefree when yesterday arrived. "We have succeeded in persuading them with clever advertising, but now we will convey the idea of making Happiness a home and involve them in the work that we have to do."
Harry closed his eyes and massaged his nose. Finally, he opened his eyes and sighed. "I'll just come along."
"Well, so dong" said David, patting his brother on the shoulder.
Harry frowned. "Make sure Doctor Jenner comes to the meeting. We can ask to enter it for the clinic we're going to build."
"Yes, I'm going to find the Little Doctor's mom right now."
"What happened to your charm to tear women down?" ask Harry
David scolded. "It's kind of cold."
"So it's too much of a challenge?" ask Harry
David's heart rate is soaring. "No. I can handle."
He left the canteen in a rage. So far nothing has gone according to plan.
The pretty shadow of Kendall Jenner last night as she stopped to offer help looking for shelter came back to light. The woman stood there with her soaking wet body and evocative invisibility shirt, keeping David awake with giddy eyes, even though his ailing body wanted to give up and sleep.
As he entered the dormitory, his eyes were looking for Kendall but he did not see the woman in the living room, kitchen or laundry room, where the women were winding mud-filled clothes and shoes to dry. He decided not to tell them to burn the clothes or make a rag, the red Carolina clay more sticky. Instead he delivered about the town meeting and kept moving.
David walked down the corridor and into the back room. There, he finds Kendall sorting cardboard supplies.
"Beautiful morning" said David.
Kendall looked over, but was not happy to see it. "Maybe if I had a hot bath."
"I'm working on it" David lied
"You've been trying to fix my car?"
"So soon" promised David
"Quick what?" kendall. "Today?"
"The contenders who handle our work cars will prioritize your cars."
Kendall seemed content, though not happy.
"I came to tell you about the town meeting."
Kendall turned back to the cardboard. "What city?"
"There's a town meeting in this lunch hall."
"Why should I attend? I'm not staying, remember?"
Panic strikes David's chest. "Does anyone else know about this?"
"No." Kendall looked, "What's wrong?"
"People would feel calmer to stay if the city had a doctor."
"You'll find another doctor. More people.fit." Kendall stopped and wiped her hands on her pants. "How are you doing?"
David is tempted to pretend to be strong and say that he feels fine, but then it occurs to him that Kendall may feel obliged to stay if she thinks her services are needed.
"Not so good."
Kendall looked worried. He forgot the cardboard and walked towards David. "You have a fever?" He put his little hand on the man's forehead.
"Let's go. I feel warm." Not a lie, because the woman was standing so close to him.
"Sit down" Kendall ordered, lowering the cardboard from the chair. "I want to measure your temperature."
David sat down, feeling comfortable removing the body weight from the injured leg. Kendall returned and put the thermometer into David's armpit, leaning in to listen to his lungs with a stethoscope. In order for his heart to race, David dropped a gaze to the doctor's chest.
"Your heart rate is rising" Kendall murmured, then she took a small flashlight and shone it into David's eye.
"Please look ahead."
David obeyed. Kendall smells good, like something she wants to taste...
"You dizzy or nauseous?"
"No." Then David remembered his plan to overestimate the symptoms of the disease. "Not at the moment."
Kendall retreated, her brows frowning. "But before that?"
"Hmm. little."
Kendall pursed her lips. "I think you should go to the hospital for further examination."
