Behind him, Kendall's body felt stiff and tense, but David suspected the woman might be thinking about the situation waiting for him at the clinic's construction site. He also sneezed several times, freshly cut grass and the famous Carolina pollen affected him. David drove as fast as he could for safety reasons and within minutes, they had reached the paved road that turned to the clinic site. A group of workers swarmed the wounded Masson Dean. But David's feelings in the girth were terrified when he saw Kristofer already taking care of the man.
Not a good sign, her heart.
After David stopped the ATV, Kendall quickly went down while throwing a helmet. He told a worker to pick up a medical bag, then he approached Masson. David crawled down from the ATV, grabbed the crutches and tried to catch up.
But when he reached the crowd, Kendall was not warmly welcomed. Masson ignored the woman's attention, clasping his hands to his chest and obeying Kristofer who appeared to have brushed a wound on the man's palm with?
Silver duct tape.
"Lakban?" kendall asked, her body language showed that she did not believe. "Did you clean the wound?"
"Kulumuri with honey before I stick with duct tape," Kris said in a self-defense tone.
David frowning.
"Daddy?" ask Kendall. "His hands should probably be sewn. There could be nerve damage." But the atmosphere breaks down when the doctor suddenly sneezes several times in a row. David held out his handkerchief.
"The wound is not very deep" Kristofer said, shaking his hand. "His blood is too much."
"I can keep working" said Masson. "I'll wear work gloves."
"It's up to you" David told him. "Let's talk about how the accident happened."
Masson got up to get back to work and the other men followed, except Kristofer. "Tell me when you need more wintergreen oil ointment for your feet" she told David. He flicked the tip of his work cap to salute Kendall and left.
The man Kendall had told her to run over and handed her a medical bag. Kendall rubbed her watery eyes and thanked him, but David knew it must have felt like he had been slapped because Masson preferred to be cared for by Kristofer.
"Don't put it to heart" comforted David. "The men were used to coming to him to treat small wounds. Happiness requires you to deal with a more serious illness." David pointed at his cast and smiled soothingly. "Cristofer can't fix my legs."
"I can give you a ride" he exclaimed, but Kendall shook her hand.
David watched, shoulder the woman. They're gonna lose Kendall. He needs to find a patient for the Little Doctor Ma'am immediately.
...----------------...
The next morning, Kendall was storing her toothbrush and smothering her mouth when she heard a knock on her door. He stared at the dark circles under his eyes and sighed. Last night he barely slept, thinking about the fact that his life was falling apart. Spending time with David Booker yesterday in the remains of his home, uploading a long-buried desire to have the family life that the man described. Kendall was so fascinated that she almost let David kiss her, this time with a real kiss. Thankfully fate intervened in the phone call before he did something that would only make his mind and body sink into another hassle. He lay with his eyes staring at the moon that had vanished in the place of dawn, before dragging his body out of bed this morning. And severe allergies that strike do not help. If not for bathing in ice-cold water, surely his eyes would still be tightly closed.
Kendall washed her face and threw out snot, then opened the door and found Khloe Thompson, one of the women who used to ride in her car, standing there. Khloe's a beautiful, wacky woman with short curls is black, but she looks older than she is thirty. From small talk all the way here, Kendall learns that Khloe's family life was almost similar to her until college. While Kendall entertained herself with lessons and encouraged herself through eight years of college, Khloe took another path by directly working in the factory after High School, where she worked, spent the last twelve years standing in front of a car assembly line, before being fired last year. Khloe is very excited about moving to Happiness, he raved all the way about the possibility of meeting nice men who have Northern manners.
Kendall was surprised the women handed their decision to stay in Happiness into her hands. And if he were to leave, he would only ruin the dreams of those who had already left his previous life to move here.
"Hi, Khloe. What's up?"
Khloe bit her lips. "Sorry to interrupt, Doctor Jenner, but there's a patient waiting for you in the lower practice room."
Kendall raised her eyebrows. "Masa? Who?"
Khloe showed off dimples. "Andy Grammer, that handsome guy who took your medical bag yesterday."
Kendall was thrilled to hear that one of the men was finally looking for her for treatment. "Is the situation urgent?"
"No, he said no hurry."
Kendall clenched her lips, then grabbed her black bag, stepped into the hallway and closed the door behind her. It may be hay fever from hay allergy or insect bites. If not for the extreme pollen and giant mosquitoes, he would have no job.
