Kendall shut the door herself and walked up to the phone. Daniel had called again three times and the last he left a message again. Kendall listened to the message with her heart as if banging on a rib.
"Kendall, it's me again. I'm worried about you. I understand why you're mad at me, but I need to know if you're okay. Call me, please. We need to talk."
Kendall hears the message again, but can't catch anything in Daniel's tone or a hint to determine what drove the man to want to talk to her.
But the fact that Daniel used the word "me" five times is striking.
Kendall put the phone on the dresser and got into the lavish bathroom. The bill looked inviting, but the spacious glass-walled shower cubicle with two shower heads looked like heaven. He turned the hot water tap and let the steam rise, then turned towards the mirror. Kendall could hardly believe the shadow she had there.
These women were generous with their time and equipment. In fact, they actually swarmed her after Hailey announced that she was willing to makeover. He was not allowed near the mirror as long as they put medicine to make his hair lighter, then cut and style it. Similarly, when they form their eyebrows and put makeup on. Kendall is the first time to feel the care of manicures and pedicures, as well as skin scrubs to wear while bathing. Various shoes and dresses that fit the size of Kendall directly scattered from many wardrobes.
The results were amazing, Kendall was amazed to observe the honey-colored hair strokes around the cheekbones. But, more than that, he enjoyed the process. Maybe that was the first time in his life he felt comfortable. The women muttered around him, talking about the workers they met, comparing him. Behind their upset feelings as it turns out this Northern man still has much to learn to impress them, there is a glimmer of optimism that the group has potential.
All of those women had experiences of being hurt and betrayed. At first Kendall was alarmed, afraid that someone would pry into the details of her separation problem with Daniel, but it turned out as if they formed a protective bubble around her. No one brought up the horrendous farewell, but Kendall felt through the bitter love story the women told, they tried to convey that she was part of a sisterhood of women who had experienced heartbreak.
And that life must go on.
While taking off the borrowed clothes, Kendall felt a sting of admiration for the women. Despite admiring their persistence in seeking love, deep down Kendall knew herself differently. Since childhood, he was very sensitive. His emotions are affected more deeply than others. Over the years he has built a protective wall to hide his easily touched feelings so that people think he has no feelings, when in reality it is the opposite. Opening my heart to Daniel is a huge risk for Kendall. When his heart was wounded and returned to him in a torn state, sometimes he thought he would die from his pain.
He doesn't want to suffer like that again, forever. He had nothing that made the women want to bet again to get love. A courage?
Might as well.
Suddenly his chest was tight and unexpectedly, his eyes were teary. Sorrow sneaks in like that. S. ambushes him in moments of calm and reminds him that if he thinks he has recovered from Daniel's double attitude, then as his grandmother often says, "Another thing happens."
Still sobbing, Kendall went under the shower and let her cries explode. He was confused, unsure of his place in the world. That feeling made him understand the feelings of the residents of Happiness as the storm destroyed homes and flew away their possessions, forcing them to look for somewhere else to live. If only happiness could be a new place for her.
Admittedly, he can't wait to have dinner with David. After all, the man was charming and attentive. The sensual tension that keeps vibrating between them makes everything interesting and tempting. Hailey's words ring back in her ears and Kendall admits it won't be hard to ignite their burning passion. But he also knows himself well enough that one-night love is not his style. As long as he could keep his distance, he could go through that night with his pride intact. David still wears crutches.
Kendall can run away from him if necessary.
When the time to meet David arrives, Kendall grabs the handbag Hailey lent her, and remembers being told to look at the contents. At first glance, the bag was empty, but when Kendall opened the zipper on the edge, she found not just one, but four protectors. Passion ran down his neck as he understood Hailey's intentions. Kendall pushed the object back into place, closed the zipper and added a purse, lipstick and comb into the bag. Then she looked at her dress in the mirror one last time and kept the cloth from tangling, pacing back and forth in the room waiting for David to knock on the door.
Fifteen minutes later, Kendall was still pacing. With David's cell phone number pressed, who knows the man overslept, but there's no answer. Worse, he heard her ringing through the connecting door of their room. His mind was immediately filled with anxiety. Did David fall?
Kendall approached the connecting door of their room, opened it and knocked on the door leading to David's room. "David?"
He stuck his ear to the door and heard David's voice, but his words were vague. He knocked again. "David? You all right?"
David's voice rang out again, still unclear, but his tone was higher. Kendall thumping. He turned the doorknob, relieved that it was unlocked. He stepped into David's room, seeing that the decor was similar, just light gray and old. David was not in the big bed that dominated the room, even though the sheets were crumpled.
The bathroom door was closed, but the visible light in the crack under the door let Kendall know that there were people inside.
"David?"
"Kendall!" david shouted from behind the door. "Please!"
In the two steps Kendall had arrived, her head filled with the shadow of David lying on the floor covered in blood. He opened the bathroom door wide.
